As guests at the Intercontinental Hotel, we booked a package that included breakfast with the room for our 3 night stay. For the first two breakfasts, we enjoyed the buffet. This included: smoked salmon and lox, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, grits, potatoes, pastries, breads and bagels, and fresh fruit. We had juice and coffee brought to our table. This normally costs $ 18 per person. At our final breakfast, we confirmed that we could take either the buffet or order off the menu, as we had a $ 43 allotment for the two of us. This was our best breakfast. I enjoyed the seafood omelette, which combined breakfast with a taste of New Orleans — it featured crawfish, shrimp, and crab with a zesty, creamy sauce and was simply decadent. If you’re staying at this hotel and looking for a convenient dining option, this is a good bet. And get a package with breakfast, as it’s well worth it.

Jazz Brunch at the Intercontinental… I’ve been a few times in the past and finally got back this weekend. It was just as nice as I remember! For around 45 bux you get a huge buffet(lots of regional favorites, so a good way to get a taste of New Orleans specialties) a variety of wonderful desserts, and free-flowing drinks(champagne/mimosas/bloody marys with top shelf vodka). Also thoroughly enjoyable is the beautiful atmosphere, excellent music, and friendly waitstaff. The standouts were(in this order): The BAND! Wonderful! Such a great time. They serenaded the bride-groom, embarassing them properly(we were all there as part of a bachelor/ette party) and they were jammin! Great jazz music… a couple of really cute kids were busting a move. The BEVVIES! Free flowing mimosas/champagne and a(new-only a few weeks old apparently) make-your-own bloody mary bar(featuring neverending absolut, smirnoff, and grey goose!) and with garnee including pickled string beans and okra… YOMMMM! The SERVICE! The wait staff serving our table and the folks serving at the buffet(cutting meat, cooking bananas foster, etc.) were wonderful. Very friendly and gracious. When we discovered the vodka bar(and felt like freakin Christopher Columbus!), they were very much like«take as much as you like!» OHMELIKEE! We were a group of 13 so making the reservation required a credit card. I was in touch with the restaurant staff beforehand and they were excellent with followup phone calls and ensuring we had a great table when we arrived. The DESSERTS Delicious bananas foster(made to order), bread pudding, and small individual servings of various desserts(I had some awesome napoleon-type thing a dulce de leche cake, and red velvet cake). The FOOD The gumbo was great. As mentioned earlier, it is a good representation of New Orleanean cuisine, so that’s really nice! I also liked the shrimp(heads on), made-to-order omellette bar, nice fresh salads, etc. etc. etc. Some of the items on the buffet were too salty and maybe one or two items didn’t taste super-duper fresh, but I attribute this to it being buffet food. Buffets can only do so much(rice in sushi drying out, etc). We were also the latest brunch seating so, when I come back(which I fully intend to do!) I will do an earlier seating(Sun brunch goes from 10:30 to 2pm). I will be back next time I’m in N’awlins!

We were set to leave for our Swamp Tour by 10:30 from our hotel, and we had gotten up late, and needed to make sure we got some food before we left. I called the front desk and asked them if there was a restaurant inside the hotel that was swerving breakfast, and they let me know that Veranda had breakfast, so we headed down. Located in the Intercontinental Hotel adjacent to the concierge desk, I’m not sure if this was the actual restaurant, but a banquet room instead. They had a breakfast buffet available, so, for simplicity sake, we got that. There was a spread of your typical Sunday brunch options with eggs, sausage, fruit, oatmeal, and for southern flare: grits. Beverage wise, they had juice, and some chicory coffee. The selection wasn’t as great as I thought it would be, however at only $ 20/person, it wasn’t so bad.
