I really like Yang’s. When I get a hankering for a poboy I always want a fried shrimp poboy. That’s my favorite. I was a little confused walking in as I walked through the back entrance and wasn’t sure what to do when there was no one there to greet or seat me. Plus the place was completely empty. After a little detective work on my part, I realized where the counter was and the sweet lady behind it took my order and told me to sit wherever I wanted to and she’d bring it out to me. My fried shrimp poboy came out quickly and it was pretty good. My only complaint was that the shrimp hadn’t been deveined. I guess it’s a personal preference, but that sort of grosses me out when fried shrimp aren’t deveined. The service was superb and the prices were decent. Overall, this is a solid choice if you’re in the mood for a good poboy.

Sometimes it feels like we get poboys at the same places cus we’re told they are the best there. This place run by a Taiwanese family has roast beef just as good as parkway down the road, though not quite to Guy’s standard. They are always very polite and no lines around the corner or film crews. One star deducted because even if you ask for lite mayo you get half a jar.

This place is everything I want from a poboy shop. Reasonable prices, good food, and there is NEVER a line. They have tons of seating inside, which no one is every sitting at. I’ve only ever ordered take-out from here. They have nice bread– chewy, slightly tough, but tastes right. I always get a shrimp poboy and fries, and I’m never disappointed. The people that work here are always nice. It seems like a family runs it. They have fountain drinks and a huge fridge with all kinds of other drinks– iced teas and fruit punch type stuff. They also sell weird things on the counter like bubble gum and bananas.

It’s true. Yang’s is the bomb: reasonable, fast, clean, friendly, cosy, plentiful, and tasty. Casually wonderful. What’s not to like? In my opinion, their best Poboy is the classic: shrimp. You can’t go wrong.

PARKING– A quick trip up to Mid-City; between the small parking lot and the street off of Iberville, there is always a place to drop your car– which is great, considering you are probably recovering from a night of festivities and you don’t want to walk too far. COST– Typical po-boy price points, averaging around $ 7. WHAT I EAT: The roast beef is amazing. The bread is always soft in the right spots(Leidenheimer), the beef is shredded, and it’s always dressed in just enough clothes! I love the sweet potato fries, but they have been a bit too overcooked at times(this explains the 4 instead of 5). I also enjoy the mustard-y potato salad. LEVELOFMESSINESS: On a scale of 1 – 10, 10 being you should wear a baby bib and then hose off outside, I would give Yang’s a proper 10. After folding up the four sides of your paper, you will realize it won’t matter after a puddle of juicy deliciousness pools on the table underneath the mess. My advice is to keep on eating, let the mayo and gravy decorate your face, and worry about cleaning up after! LENGTHOFTIMESPENTSUFFERINGINLINE: 5 minutes, tops! If you are starving and don’t want to deal with long lines at some other nearby hot spots, like Parkway, you probably won’t regret coming to Yang’s(especially if your po-boy of choice is a roast beef). ATMOSPHERE: Great people work there; always friendly and smiling. The TV’s playing the news or some trashy talk show are sometimes a bit much(again explains the 4 instead of 5), but if you feel like spacing out and catching up with some headlines while you dig in, it’s not so bad.

Yang’s roast beef is different from any other I’ve tried in NOLA. The gravy is suspiciously similar to gravy you’d find on New Orleans«Mandarin Chicken». Its a light colored, thick gravy, thats heavily seasoned. The beef was moist and plentiful but personally, didn’t care for the gravy. The fries were expensive given the size and the small amount of gravy. They also use a thick(cheap) nacho cheese on the fries which I think is gross. The atmosphere is a bit odd. If you didnt know they serve traditional New Orleans poboys, you’d think you were in a Chinese restaurant, from the sketchy looking counter where you order, to the random Asian decorations scattered around… Not on my top list of places for roast beef poboys.

Been here a few times over the course of the past year n a half and was never let down. I usually got the stuffed bell pepper special because my roommate always went for that and i’d order if whenever i was indecisive about what to grub. Good deal, good prices, and the owners are really cool, very nice people.

When my first and second choices for po-boys were both closed, we headed over here to give this place a try. The shrimp po-boys were A-OK, nothing remarkable, but it fit the bill in our time of need. If I could have had a beer with my sandwich, they may have gotten another star, but instead we grabbed them to go and ate my at my house with a cold beer.

I’ve attempted to eat at Yang’s several times only to be disappointed that they had closed earlier than their posted hours. I finally got the opportunity to sample an oyster/shrimp combo prior to Isaac making landfall. The bread was less appealing than that I’ve had at many other places and the breading on the shrimp and oyster was a bit less crisp with a hint of mushiness to it. It was a decent po boy but it wasn’t in the same class as my favorite po boys. The owner was very friendly and the staff was very quick at filling my order. Overall I’d say this is a decent place to grab a quick po boy but the quality of the preparation is a bit less than some of my other favorite spots. I will return to sample the roast beef.

I had been wanting to try Yang’s for some time. Because I don’t frequently get to Mid-City, it had been sitting in my to try list for a while. Fast forward to Hurricane Isaac and I was looking for a real meal prior to landfall. Thanks to twitter and my buddy @tshumbie, I learned that Yang’s was open despite the threatening storm. I quickly sped to Bienville and ordered a sandwich. I decided on a roast beef poor boy since those are my favorite, and a great judge of a restaurant’s quality. While Yang’s version was a traditional New Orleans style poor boy(proper bread, etc.), it wouldn’t rate in my top ten. I enjoyed it, but it seemed to be missing something that I can’t totally explain. I realize that isn’t helpful, but I just can’t put my finger on what it needed. As a side I tried their cheese fries with gravy. They came with nacho type cheese, which I do not like. I would not order this again. So if the poor boy was just OK, why four stars? Any restaurant that was open prior to, or immediately after a hurricane deserves an extra star. Since the other reviews of Yang’s are so positive, I will be back. I have a feeling that if their is not an impending storm the food will probably be much better. Note: The staff at Yang’s were really great. They were super friendly and made me feel very welcome.

Meat. Leidenheimer po boy bread. Pickle, tomato, and shredded lettuce, not too much though. Too much mayo. In my book those are the hallmarks of a good po boy. Nothing offensive here and good prices, what’s not to like?

I love Yang’s — not only because it’s within walking distance to my house — but they make some great sandwiches. I love two that they make — the roast beef is wonderful, very consistent and yummy garlicy. The second on is the oyster and crawfish half and half… it’s wonderful! Both the regular french fries and the sweet potato fries are great. It’s a large serving, that I usually share with a friend or with my dogs, and they’re great. Crispy and wonderfully salty, but not like you’ve eaten a salt lick… The only complaint I would have is that they don’t have good cheese to add to their sandwiches, and cheese is such a wonderful thing. Roast beef with swiss is a wonderful thing…

I love Yang’s! The Yangs are super friendly and the food is awesome. I’ve tried the grilled chicken, hot sausage & hamburger poboys — each has been really great. They use super fresh bread from Leidenheimer’s and it definitely makes a difference. I plan to go back soon and try the roast beef poboy!

Their red bean and rice had the best flavor! Their smoked sausage was extremely juicy and it really worked well with the entire dish. The Shrimp and Roast Beef Po’Boy was amazing. These are to die for, especially the shrimp one. Their gumbo was also very well balanced, the saltiness was perfect and was not too strong unlike many of the other gum is that I tried in New Orleans. Overall such great service as well!

Yang’s has the best roast beef and shrimp po-boys in the city, period. I challenge anyone who thinks otherwise to come by and finish one without a smile on your face. All those other Po-Boy«institutions» need to take notes from Mr. Yang. Yang’s dining room has the feel of a small Chinese restaurant. You walk straight up to the counter and order, then grab a seat. The small menu has all the basic po-boys plus 2 specials. A red beans special on Mondays and a stuffed bell pepper on Thursday and Friday which are both pretty good. The hamburger po-boy is a homemade patty that has bits of hot sausage mixed in with the beef… very tasty. The food comes out quick and the owners are super nice and always check up on you to see how you’re doing. The roast beef po-boy is to die for. All the sandwiches come on fresh Leidenheimer bread, which is requisite for a good po-boy. The roast is shredded similar to R&O’s but not so shredded that it turns to mush like at Domilise or Mothers. It has just the right amount of firmness but not so firm like the thick slices that Parkway doles out. There’s just enough well seasoned gravy to coat every bite, but not so much that the bread falls apart. The shrimp po-boy is equally awesome. The shrimp are always fresh and just the right size. The batter they use is not so thick that it’s super crunchy and can’t taste the shrimp and it’s not so light that it gets soggy and falls off. It is right where it needs to be. Very few places fry shrimp this well. I think the name throws people off. They probably think that it’s some kind of Chinese version of a po-boy. These are New Orleans sandwiches through and through and Mr. Yang has perfected the art.

This is a damn good poboy. Seriously. If I could add a half star I would. Why don’t I go the full five? Well… really just because they don’t have a full bar. I had passed this place a few times when it opened and wondered about the place. The reviews I saw on Unilocal made the determination to try this place for me. I’m really happy I did. I just finished a half of the large catfish I ordered. And I’m still thinking about how yummy it was. The bread was fresh and full, and the large poboy is more than enough for two meals. And holy man did they pile on the catfish. Full to bursting and they didn’t overload on the mayo and actually listened when I said dressed no tomatoes. They put a ton of pickles on too, and the lettuce was crispy. It was pretty all together outstanding. It’s your typical walk up to the counter and order your food and a drink. They’ve done a decent job of seperating the kitchen/ordering space from the dining. I looked around momentarily and the sining space seemed really large, good for groups or just a few. Know that they only take credit cards for $ 10 and up. They have bottled drinks and fountain. And a whole list of sides I didn’t even get to. Everyone inside was super friendly and efficient. They even were nice about me tying my dogs up outside when I came in to order take out and came outside to bring my food to me while I was keeping the girls company. What makes me sad is that not enough people realize yet how awesome this place is. I hope more people start going. They have definately won me over on the I’m hungover god all I need is a poboy moment from bud’s. You should definately try it out if you find yourself over this way. I’m excited to try the shrimp next time. Hopefully soon they’ll put some benches out on the sidewalk or something. On a day like today it would have been great to sit outside and chow down on the awesome.

While plodding around mid-city looking for an apartment, the girly and I got hungry. We came across Yangs. It was empty. No one in the place. We were reading the menu on the door when the lady popped open the door(causing only a tiny bit if pants wetting) and asked us to come in and eat. We still had some distance to go so we got a menu and kept on until we got hungry enough. So about an hour later, we cam back and it was STILL completely empty. This made us nervous but by that time, the girly had already tried to take two bites out of my hand. So. We got a roast beef with gravy and a shrimp. Roast beef po boy: Probably as good(and seriously as messy) as Parkway’s. They really need plates though. Ever try to eat a roast beef with gravy like a normal po boy? And did you have to pre-treat your shirt and pants afterward? Yeah. Messy! The fork and knife they gave was too cheap to do the job on the Leidenheimer buns. I finished half and had to give up. It’s extremely filling and quite tasty. The Shrimp was pretty good and the girly somehow ate her entire po boy. I don’t know where she puts it. All in all, it was a pretty darned good meal and we will probably go back. Especially if we find a place over there. On days Parkway is busy, I have a feeling we won’t have to wait in such a long line at Yangs.

Whoa now: Parkway faithful, now standing by Yang’s. We made the decision today to try out this new neighborhood PoBoy joint. I’d been in the parking lot once before and made the decision to try something else and drove away, but a few early reviews led us back, and earlier today we said hello to Mr. Yang and his wife, and the best new PoBoy spot in New Orleans. The PoBoy’s at Yang’s are amongst the best the city has to offer. We tried both the roast beef and the fried shrimp and they were delicious. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but they are better than those at Parkway, better than Mahoney’s, better than Koz’s, Parasol’s, you name it. There is something incredibly charming and simple about this place. But don’t let the bright pink exterior and unfamiliar name lead you astray. These are delicious PoBoy’s. Prepared with care, seasoned and dressed to what I would call perfection, and the prices are unbeatable. On the exterior it would seem like this would be one of those places that sells standard fried Chinese food and chicken wings, and then perhaps dabble in poboys, but it’s not. Mr. Yang is extremely passionate about PoBoy’s, and that’s it. The attention to detail in his recipes stand out, and the result is one that tastes better than the classics. No small feat in this city. It took one trip to Yang’s for me to register a Unilocal account and tell the rest of the PoBoys consuming public that what’s happening in this building is important thing. You must give Yang’s a try. I only wish the fries had more character. Nothing special there. But that’s not why I went. I was a little hungover and I really wanted an outstanding PoBoy. Yang’s nailed it.

Yang’s is a solid neighborhood poboy shop. I had a grilled shrimp poboy which was tasty and fresh. The bread was very good and the shrimp were flavorful and well cooked. I got it dressed and the lettuce, tomato, pickles, condiments were really well balanced. What kicks them up to 4 stars for me, was the counter service was very friendly and helpful. Plus they had really excellent fresh brewed unsweet tea. I hate tea from the soft drink vending machine.
