Now this was such a nice find. I had actually been hoping that the new New Waverly«Taco Corner» was finally open yet(it’s not) this filled the bill for breakfast in a much better than expected way. I have no idea where the other 3 locations are, but if they are anything like this one, I say go for it. It’s for early birds as the hours are 4:30am until 1pm. When we walked in hungry for tacos, I accidentally placed my breakfast order in spanish and probably would have never realized it until my wife mentioned it later. Small story there, then we will get to the food… When leaving I said to my wife«Those asian ladies remind me of the ones that run a small breakfast chain in west Houston». She said«They were not asian, they were Mexican». And she should know since she’s asian. That’s when she reminded me that I communicated with them in spanish. Why is that important? Read on. I asked a simple question, «Where is your bread made?» Was told that«she is making it in the back now» and pointed and sure enough there was a lady making more dough in the back. So far so good. We ordered a jalapeño and cheese kolache and a sausage and egg sandwich. Absolutely –awesome– food! The kolache actually had really jalapenos cooked inside the perfectly baked, fresh hot roll and there was a sign that gave the name of the local sausage they were using(can’t remember the name now). THAT is how Mexicans make a kolache, if you can ever find a «Mexican kolache». They also use egg yolk to paint the bread so it’s shiny and actually beautiful. Forget getting just some peppers in the sausage, they put real ones in it. Amen! The sandwich on a croissant was one of the best I have ever had in my life. It was large and well worth the $ 2.45, sausage was top notch, bun so flaky and fresh and buttery and here’s where the Mexican thing is important again, they used a generous amount of black pepper and I suspect a tiny amount of carne asada seasoning on the sausage. Words can’t describe how nice this was(so see the photos). Best damn Mexican influenced croissants and kolaches I can recall finding anywhere. Location is very clean and the ladies are smiley and friendly. We spent less than $ 4 for what I would say is a world class breakfast and we were full and sure enough delighted. Hell, why not, here’s a 5 star review.
