Soo This may sound weird but first thing that was shocking to me was that My gnocchi had a piece of soup or some sort of detergent in it. It was white but definitely wasn’t food. Me and My girlfriend both tried it and i wish we didn’t. We didn’t say anything to anyone we just walked out… P. S. This was the second dish since the first one that I ordered had piece of chicken in it even though I specifically said No mean since I’m vegetarian…

Such a cute, cozy intimate wine bar. We were walking to a place for dessert but passed this pretty easy to miss little spot and because it looked mysterious from the outside– And I’m curious — I said lets peek in … I had this bookmarked so I’m glad we passed it and were able to check it out. The bar area is tiny, very narrow. But the feeling is cozy rather than cramped. And in the back there are some tables which seem romantic, great for a date. Tony the bartender was wonderful– friendly and attentive. He recommended a full bodied red based on what we said we liked, and the recommendation was great. Highly recommend as a wine bar /restaurant to go for drinks or dinner with friends or a date. I’m looking forward to going back and having dinner there.

I bought the groupon to take out my best friend for her birthday. We both love wine and I especially love cute wine bars, no matter how hole-in-the-wall they may be. I made a 7:00PM reservation on a Saturday night, we got there early and were told we couldn’t get a table early but we can sit at the bar. No problem. Appetizer comes out — it’s a plate of rolled up meat and a pepperoni, cheese, olives and some gross bread with olive oil. Just really bland and boring presentation but whatever that was fine. We get the wines served to us. They are okay tasting but obviously pretty cheap. Part of me even wonders if they were watered down because they were pretty generous pours(we each got 6 glasses) and I barely felt buzzed. 6 glasses of wine on a normal night and I would be blacked out on the floor texting all my exes. Even the bottle of wine we brought home tasted watered down. I ordered the gnocchi and my friend ordered the rigatoni with chicken. Within 5 minutes our food came out which tells me it was already pre-made sitting around. It wasn’t BAD but it was average at best. My friend said her rigatoni was okay too. At the end, they«require» you to tip $ 20. Honestly, I didn’t have a bad time, but it 1000%was not worth the money and was definitely NOT a $ 178 value(or whatever they claimed). If you want a cute wine bar experience, I recommend Corkbuzz in Union Square. If you’re looking for a good wine tasting, look up Otto. Great quality and fun and informative classes, around $ 40/person.

I have literally no idea what people are complaining about here. My girlfriend and I went on a Friday night with the GroupOn(the 2 appetizers, 2 entrees and wine tasting one), and we both agree that it was probably the best date we’ve ever been on in our lives. The appetizers were prix fixe cheese and salami with really good toasted bread and olive oil. I was expecting the«wine tasting» to consist of like little shot-glass sized samples but was delighted that it was 6 very full glasses and than we got to take home a very nice bottle of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. I’m a pretty hardcore drinker and I was feeling the buzz. Then the entrees were gnocchi in vodka sauce and my girlfriend got fish in a basil wine sauce; both were excellent and swapped back and forth. Then we splurged and split a tiramisu that was absolutely divine and I have no regrets. 50 $ for the GroupOn and then we ended up massively over-tipping just because the service was really nice and pleasant and fast, but still got out of there paying less than 100 $ for one of the greatest, most wonderful dinners we’ve ever had. Really, really can’t recommend this as a date spot hard enough. Needless to say we’re going back and soon. The one thing I will admit is that the place is pretty small, but… It’s a hole in the wall in the Upper East Side, what did you expect? Just make a reservation for early in the evening.

I wasn’t sure about this place bc of the reviews but decided to try it anyway bc my Groupon was expiring. I have to say that I’m very glad I did bc It turned out to be a very lovely experience. I met my date there. The place is very narrow so the tables are very close together. My groupon was for 2 entrees and a bottle of wine. We chose a red that was recommended by the waitress, it was good. They have a limited menu, 6 pasta dishes, one beef, 2 chicken, 2 fish, and about 3 salads. I chose the hangar steak and spinach, it was very tasty and well seasoned and it went perfectly with the red wine. My date had the rigatoni, he said it was very good and since he kept dipping his bread in the sauce, I’m guessing it was! We also ordered the cheesecake for dessert. It tasted like good old fashion cheesecake. The waitress and the owner were very pleasant. The service was fast and efficient, pretty much what I want in my dining experience. The one thing to note is when you get the check they will tack on the gratuity for a full price meal plus whatever else you ordered so it came out to another $ 20 – 25. Plus you can only pay that in CASH! If you don’t have cash, no worries, they have an ATM in the restaurant. I kid you not! Overall it was a delightful little spot that unfortunately I probably will not visit again only bc it’s too far uptown for this downtown girl!

Visited this place on a recent visit to NYC with my girlfriend. Bought the groupon which provided decent value for money. Wasn’t too impressed by the food or the wine selection but it’s still quite a nice spot for date nights in terms of the ambience and the cozy nature of the establishment.

I’m not sure what all the negative comments are about. I went in prepared for the worst and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is tiny, but it makes for a cozy date spot. I came here with my husband last night to use our Groupon. Ours was for a white and red wine flight, an antipasto each, a choice of entrée and a bottle of wine to bring home. The antipasto platter was disappointing but like I said, I knew that coming in. We choose the hanger steak and gnocci as our entrees. The servers were very attentive and made sure we were ok. Our main waiter explained the type of wine we were drinking. The wine pour wasn’t generous, but most wine flights I’ve had aren’t. The wines aren’t the best, but again, I came here knowing that. I’m also not sure why people are complaining about the tax and tip off the ORIGINAL value of the Groupon. Of you’ve ever bought a Groupon, it specifically says you have to tip off the original value. I don’t understand why they won’t let you charge it though. Either way, I thought the service was attentive and the food was decent. I’m not sure I would trek this high up for this place again, but I’m glad I got to try it.

I came here with the Groupon coupon on December 31st and it was the best dinner!!! We got much more than expected. First the beautiful tall blonde waitress with a sweet accent(wish I remembered her name) made us feel like we were VIP. She was energetic and made our night special. The wine in my opinion was fine, they are not the most expensive or quality wine but it was a discounted dinner and wine tasting. I was good with it. The Food was GREAT, I ate everything and wanted more. The spaghetti with sausage was wonderful and the dessert was amazing. We were placed in the back cozy room which made the atmosphere warm n private and again our waitress made our night. I would definitely eat here again, and hope I get the same waitress.

DOSOMEMATH!!! If you are looking for numbers and prices look at the last few lines in my review… I have to admit I was more than apprehensive to go to 1742. A coworker insisted we go using a groupon deal. 4 of us dined using the two– $ 49 groupon valued at $ 170 something each… so upon arriving we were seating promptly I have to tell you there are some positives. The place is super cozy if you’re lucky enough to go to dinner with more than one other person. Otherwise you’re sharing personal space with strangers. No big deal its NYC I am totally used to that. We were greeted by a very nice server. She asked if we had any promotions to redeem and we did. She told us we would have a preselected app and the entrees we could choose. I was surprised that each of us got a plate of cheese and salami and 4 olives but the quality was lacking MAJORRR! It was far less than mediocre, looked like salami and cheese came out of a supermarket prepackaged plastic thing. The glasses were not all filled equally. Sometimes one person would get more than the others, other times two out of the 4 people would have similar pours WHATEVER no biggie right? Next we picked our entrees and were served our first wine. Needless to say we were only inclined to one of the 6 wines we tasted(all of them tasted like water with a splash of wine) but I bet everyone at our table that the bottle/wine we like so much couldn’t be more than $ 5 dollars I was wrong it a $ 7 dollar bottle. But I will let you know how we found out at the end. The entrees were actual very very good. I don’t think the Unilocalers on this page are being fair when they review the food. The food is better than many of the comments left here. All of our meals were very yummy and we tried a few. Last but not least we got our bill and realized we were billed 10% gratuity of the original value of the groupon. YESYOUREADINGTHATRIGHT $ 17 – 18 more like $ 18 they like to round up. Then tax and anything extra you ordered. So we ended up really paying $ 40 a person. OHANDDONTTRYTOCHARGETHATCAUSEYOUCAN’T USEYOURCREDITCARDWITH A GROUPON that really irked me. Why is my ability to use plastic or cash any different because I have a groupon? But whatever. It looks like everyone in this place uses a groupon. All tables were full and there were people waiting to be seated when we left. I personally wouldn’t go back. If you look up any bottle, Google, you’ll realize you’re probably better off buying your own than the«free» one or anyone you’re tasting!

HORRIBLEGROUPONFORVEGETARIANS The only reason why I considered his place is because of a groupon but boy did I make A HUGE mistake. First standard tip for any place for a Friday– call a head of time for a reservation otherwise get cosy for bar seating. Second– the waiter was nice but unfortunately 90% of the experience outside of the waiter was HORRIBLE Third– low key bar romantic but cramped Fourth– I’ve never hated food that was served to me this much. Apparently people have written here that the Gnocchi was good… You are absolutely wrong and no it is not a difference of opinion. It was so bad that every bite I took to try to prove my taste palate wrong made me more sad. No I did not want to meet the waiter because I’m pretty sure I’d ask him«how dare he» Please do yourself a favor, take back your groupon, and I guarantee you, you’ll thank me for that epic save. Enjoy and cheers

Came here for the wine tasting with a friend. I was a little hesitant based on other reviews but I’m glad I came. For starters this place is small and gets very crowded. Great music and vibe throughout the entire place. Service was spectacular. I wished I asked the name of the waitress in the front. Very knowledgable for the wines with great detail. The chicken dish was seasoned well and topped with fresh greens. The spinach was soooo tasty. Order a side of their potatoes. The best I ever had

WILLNEVERGOTOTHISPLACEAGAIN!!! SAVEYOURMONEYNOTWORTHIT!!! Me and my husband Went on January 10th using a Groupon deal… The service was very bad… I felt like they didn’t like black people… The food was tasteless And overly salted!!! The Groupon deal was wine tasting with dinner and a bottle of wine to take home… A few days after at home we open the wine which had no seal just a cork. The wine tasted like water was added to it.

Came here Monday with the groupon(2 entrees 1 bottle of wine). The bottle of wine was some cheap 6 $ bottle. made a reservation for 7:30 and were not sat until 8:00 . I ordered the chicken and broccoli … If you’ve ever had the lean cuisine frozen dinner meal … It tastes exactly like that. My boyfriend had the bolognese and was extremely disappointed. I tried some and it was extremely bland. I wish they would add little *umpf* into their food . It is a very very small place and you are basically going to be having dinner with the tables next to you … Get friendly Honestly, you’re better off buying the lean cuisine yourself, a nicer bottle of wine & staying in.

We had a Groupon. That’s why we came here. When I looked at the menu, it had like 6 options. It was like in the movie My Cousin Vinny when they went into the diner in the south and opened up the menu to find 3 choices: Breakfast Lunch or Dinner. But maybe I’ve been spoiled going to restaurants on Long Island whose menus have more pages than a Harry Potter book. I’m not a sophisticated city person who is accustomed to the whole simplicity thing. I ordered a chicken Caesar salad. It was ok. The chicken wasn’t too soft nor flavorful, but it was a Chicken Caesar Salad, we’re not reinventing the wheel here. My friend ordered French toast but they brought her Eggs Florentine and she didn’t object, she just ate it. I guess I granted them 4 stars because they were nice and because I grade Unilocal on a generous curve.5 stars = good/great/excellent. 4=OK. 3 if they annoy me, 2 if I get very disappointed and 1 if they’ve really pissed me off over something.

This is definitely my new favorite place! I came here with my bf for a Groupon deal. When I tried to make reservations, the woman on the phone was not so courteous so I was expecting something sort of bad, but it was just the opposite. First of all, you don’t need a Groupon here at all… they have so many deals that you should just skip the Groupon, call ahead and ask what sort of promotions they have. We got a bottle of wine and two entrees included in our«promotion». We also ordered an extra caesar salad as an appetizer and shared it. First, we thought we will be choosing the wine(as long as it didn’t go over a certain pre-determined value of course) so I was not so pleasantly surprised when the waitress just asked us if we want red or white and choose for us… but I was proven wrong — the wine was awesome. Very mild and smooth. Of course it wasn’t THEBEST, but it was definitely not a regular table wine either. The food was simply amazing. The caesar salad was one of the best I have ever had which is surprising because I usually like strong flavors, some anchovies + lots of dressing on it. This salad, as far as I could tell, had no anchovies added to the dressing nor was it swimming in it, but it was so perfect and tasty! We ordered two medium hanger steaks and they were also VERY good — just perfectly cooked! The place was extremely busy, but all the staff were so nice! Our waitress was simply amazing!(I don’t remember her name just that she had an accent) She owned the entire room, had plenty of advise on food and wines … Even the busboys were amazing, nice, courteous with great smiles … and on such a busy night! After coming home I read some reviews that stated they already add the tip… I’m not sure if that was the case with us. we left a huge tip because we were very happy with the food and service, but I guess I should of looked at the bill a bit closer… so I can’t really comment on that. It is cash only though — at least that’s what we were told. 5 starts for food and 5 stars for service! It was really one of the better dinners I have had and I will definitely be going back… often!

Had a Groupon deal for 2 entrees & a bottle of wine for $ 24. I saw the reviews indicating mediocrity, but we were on a TIGHT budget this trip, so we went with it. We were seated at the bar, which wasn’t a big deal for us. I think we got sub par service because I mentioned the groupon. The bottle of wine we had retails for less than $ 10. I’ve had worse cheap wines, but it gave me a headache nonetheless. We were served a basket of sliced, buttered toast… it was cold. My husband ordered the penne with chicken and broccoli. Not bad but definitely not great. I ordered the linguine bolgnese. It had good flavor, but I felt insulted that it was mostly spaghetti pasta, with about 5 pieces of linguine. Not a huge problem, it was tasty, but I would’ve preferred the waiter acknowledged that. Wouldn’t go back.

Get the hanger steak. Don’t think to get anything else. Trust me. You’re welcome. Without any Groupon or deal you can go here for two entrees and a bottle of wine for $ 30TOTAL. Awesome, thanks for not overcharging by 100% on the bottle of wine. I happened to get a Deal on Groupon with a code for 25% off that amount so it was slightly less. Service is amazing if you have the one female waitress who is an absolutely gem. Ambiance is alright. Stick with the steak and you’ll be presently surprised. Not a typical hanger steak. More of a crust on the outside. Totally delicious.

Like most other reviewers, I dined here with a Groupon deal that I received as a gift, $ 29 for dinner with two entrees and a bottle of wine. I made reservations for a Friday night at 9:30 since we had other plans earlier in the evening downtown. I called two hours before my reservation to see if I could move up my reservation time, and was informed it could be moved up to 9 pm. We arrived around 8:45 to ensure our seating at 9. Unfortunately, there was a long line out the door consisting of customers(also all with Groupon coupons) with 8:30 reservations still waiting. We were told to come back at 9:15, so my boyfriend and I decided to go to a nearby bar to pass the time. We came back around 9:20 and we still waited another 15 minutes or so to be seated. They offered us seating at the bar, which we just took since we really didn’t want to wait any longer. This place is very small so it explains the long wait and inefficiencies with their«reservation system». We picked a red wine and he provided us with a Tempranillo. I ordered the linguini bolognese and my boyfriend got the penne with asparagus and chicken. My pasta dish was decent but his dish was lacking in the«cream sauce» and bland with dry chicken. They quoted us $ 89 for the meal, which doesn’t even make sense if you actually compute it, but most likely just to get more tip from you. For the price of the Groupon deal, it provided us with a cost efficient dinner and overall okay experience but honestly would not go out of my way to come here again. If you do decide to come here for dinner, I suggest to have an early reservation on a weekend or come in the middle of the week. They also do not have a front host/hostess, so just try to find the bartender/manager in the bar area and inform them you have arrived for your reservation.
