I can’t believe I just discovered ABC and it’s closing on May 1st due to a raise in rent. The pan fried noodles are great, and the General Tso’s isn’t the overly greasy and sweet concoction that it is when you order it from your local take out place. The golden fried rice was like nothing I’ve ever had before – savory because it has dried shrimp and seafood, but sweetened by yellow raisins. I hope that the staff are able to find jobs in the area, especially Kin, one of the friendliest, kindest waiters I’ve met in a long time.

This place is known as funeral restaurant. 90% of their business rely on people go there to eat after the funeral service down on Mulberry Street. If you want crappy foods with crappy prices… This place is for you!

ABC is kinda a no-frills place. Traditional food at a very cheap price. We had a menu with about 15 – 20 items all pricing at $ 6.95. I know right? Pretty reasonable, but hey you pay what you get for. A woman was standing outside reeling people into the restaurant and we so happened to be some of those people. The place is decent in size and there was a small crowd. While in ABC we saw some very interesting things… For a brief period of time this man kept coming into the place carrying this bucket with a giant fish in it, walking to and from the kitchen. That was interesting. Also, one of my friends wanted to subsitute chicken for tofu in their dish and that led to a like 15 minute confusing conversation. All in all the food was okay. I didn’t like how they charged $ 1 for each of us to get a bowl of white rice. They didn’t even have brown which my friends and I love. I ended up ordering the Chicken with Garlic Sauce(my usual) and it was pretty average.

ABC Chinese Restaurant is your standard neighborhood Chinese banquet place. They do everything — lunch, dinner, dim sum and have tons of space to accomodate a big group. You could easily sit here all day and just slowly make your way through the whole menu. The décor is a bit old, the service is standard for Chinatown, and the value is pretty much like anywhere else in a four block radius. That said, they have a really big menu so its easy to find something to please everyone. On this partiular occasion(and I couldn’t tell you when it was — this review has apparently been stuck in draft for longer than I remember) we ordered: Chicken soup with carrot Fish and cucumber Orange beef Mayo shrimp Dou miao Salted fish tofu casserole Scallops and snow peas Roast chicken Salt and pepper squid Red bean soup The dishes I remember being quite good were the salted fish and tofu, the scallops and snow peas, dou miao, and the salt and pepper squid. We all left feeling very full and happy. I do NOT recommend ABC for dim sum however. It has a short line, but the service is terribly slow and the food isn’t hot or particularly as well executed. The dumpling skins were thick and fell apart a lot.

Recently ate here again with my boyfriend and his family — and of course I’m back to rave about their chicken. MMMMM. My favorite dish here — great flavors and the skin is so crispy and delicious! We also ordered a few new items I hadn’t tried, notably the fried ribeye, which was pretty good. For a Chinese food place, I think it’s quite good.

Mehh had better food before. We ordered the vegetarian menu set and let me tell you it wasn’t all that great. Too many dishes of Choy or veggies. I swear some of the stuff came from canned food. Then there were the fried veggie spring rolls. It was alright — only the sweet and sour sauce made it bearable. Also some of the bok choy was bitter like it wasn’t fresh. Overall I don’t think I’ll be coming back to eat here if it wasn’t a family dinner. We had two tables and the set didn’t come with that many dishes and we were charged $ 500 something. A little pricey for vegetarian food that wasn’t savory…

Ugh. Empty on a Sunday night. Should have taken the hint. Tried to rationalize it away after sitting down, but that was just inertia and ego working together. Gave this place a try because Ping’s was hosting a wedding or something and was full. Don’t go here. Just don’t. I really can’t expend any effort on a review that might bring back traumatic memories of wasting my money.

It feels weird to review this restaurant since everyone that’s reviewed ABC Chinese restaurant before me, came here for lunch purposes or maybe they discovered it. My mom tells me this restaurant is typically one of those restaurants you come to after a wake, a funeral, or after the mourning period(lasts a month). I’ve been here twice for these purposes. In the two times that I’ve been here, the service has always been up to point. The food is always tasty and flavorful. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Because of what my mom says, this is not a restaurant I would come on a regular, but because of their great tasting food and good service, I just had to review it.

I come here with my grandmother, who has lived in Chinatown for longer than most of us have been alive. If you are used to Chinatown Chinese restaurants, you will like ABC. They have all the standards plus some more interesting plates. The chicken with chinese broccoli is a huge serving and the chinese broccoli always tastes very fresh. We always have the same waitress and she is nice and smiley. The prices are reasonable. This is definitely an old-school Chinese restaurant so don’t go expecting a white-gloved hostess and 5-star service, but if you want to try some Chinese dishes in a casual atmosphere with good prices, ABC is a good bet.

Remember the old-style Chinese restaurants that served the fried noodles with plum sauce(Duck sauce for some of you!) and mustard before the main meal? This restaurant still have it! They also have the now hard to find Chinese-American dishes. All the hard-to-find dishes from the ‘70s and ‘80s are still served here. Get your fat egg rolls, Peking Pork chop, fried rice and moo goo gai pan and sizzling platters! You’ll see a good mix of Chinese and non-Chinese groups eating here all the time. Great for large family dinner. Lunch specials are all under $ 6.00!

It was deserted when we went in with staff watching television at the back. That should have been a sign. Wound up ordering a «fresh» fish that wasn’t fresh. Supposedly they fished it out of the tank in the front of the shop but the fish we’re served is quasi disintegrating and tasted of baking soda that restaurants use to cover the taste/smell of fish long past it’s sell-by date. When we order, we’re told this fish is $ 28.95 but when the bill comes it’s $ 49. Long explanations by staff ensue and ultimately we were scammed out of close to $ 100 for the meal, comprising of the $ 49 semi-rotting fish in addition to other bland accompaniments.

I didn’t hate it here, but I didn’t love it. The food was«Okay» and I say this because I didn’t care for the fried rice or dumplings at all — though the beef with scallion and ginger dish was pretty darn good. The beef was very tender and the ginger was subtle and yummy. The problem I had there was stomaching all the grease. This was much more greasy than any other food I’ve had in chinatown — or McDonald’s for that matter. The taste was there, but somewhat hidden behind excessive oil. Boo. The service was good at best — my mother received the wrong item, and the check was indecipherable so we weren’t really sure how the bill worked out to almost 60 for three people sharing… but hey — it was an experience. Also found it odd(at first) that while every other restaurant we went to there was a 20 – 40 minute wait, but no one was in ABC. Awkward silence… no music. Just odd.

A decent place to grab some southern style Chinese grub. Service is what you’d expect from a Chinese restaurant… quick, curt, and to the point. That alright, I’m here to eat… not to socialize. It’s clean and well known, and the owner also runs a flower business not too far away. We has fried rice with salted fish and scallops. It was pretty good and not too greasy. There were flecks of egg scattered throughout and a sprinkling of sesame seeds on top. We also tried an eggplant dish with pork. This one was a travesty, as the eggplant was cooked beyond recognition and mushy as anything in Chinese hell. Not bad, not great, just OK. Come here or not, your choice!

Like Rima F.‘s prior review… I wish knew about this place earlier… so good. Came here with a large group to enjoy the meal immensely. Surprisely for a Friday night, it was not crowded. We basically had the restaurant all to ourselves. The food and service was truly exceptional. Love, love love the lobster with black bean sauce and minced meat. Our waiter was a lovely older gentleman who also recommended that we try the crispy garlic chicken which was out of the world. At the end they served up their famous sweet red bean dessert soup. At $ 20 a person, this was truly a great meal. Can’t wait to return.

I’ve been here twice for dinner within a span of 3-weeks and for some reason, the experiences were like day and night. Maybe the first time, my cousin actually did the ordering, so the food was really good. The Peking duck was excellent, as was the soup and many of the other dishes. My family liked it so much we wanted to come back. So we came back, but without my cousin. My family tried to do the ordering and I’m pretty sure we ordered some of the same things that we got last time, but it wasn’t the same. The soup was really bland, the fried tofu didn’t come served on a bed of sauteed seafood and veggies like last time, and I could have sworn we got another seafood dish, but what came out was chicken. At least the dish I really wanted – scallops in a black-pepper sauce– was outstanding and I practically ate that myself. At least both times, the service was mostly good and attentive and the cooked whole chicken was really moist and tender, unlike at other Chinese restaurants. They just cook their poultry right.

Wandered in tonight to try this place instead of a more familiar go-to place in the area. Should have stuck with the go-to places. Ordered spring rolls. They were served hot, but soaked through the cute doily in seconds – way too greasy. For my meal, I ordered the shredded pork in garlic sauce. It was marked hot and spicy, and I asked the server if it was killer hot or medium hot. He told me it was spicy. I was nervous because my friends often make fun of my intolerance for spices. I need not have worried about that. It was not spicy. Nor was it shredded, in fact. I got small strips of pork in a thin sauce with a load of bell peppers. All I could taste was bell pepper – not garlic. I don’t care for bell pepper. That’s why I ordered garlic sauce. I am sure that they serve some good meals as the restaurant was crowded by locals by the time I left. My meal just was not one of them.

This place was former Danny Ng’s. Came here to celebrate my grandma’s b-day. We made reservations 2 weeks prior for a table of 14 because we figured it would be crowded on a Saturday night. We had the Peking Duck, which was really good, especially with the bun. We had roast chicken cantonese style and that is one of my favorite dishes. The sauteed jumbo prawns was a bit dry. The beef with snow peas was just right. They just came out with a newly written menu, which wasn’t even printed, so we ordered from that. I am so glad my family knows how to read Chinese or else I wouldn’t be able to eat and know of these awesome food. We had this crab casserole with black bean sauce and some other spicy-ish sauce, which was delicious! There was this crab steamed with sticky rice… man it’s yummy! It was really cute when we sang the happy birthday song to my grandma, the restaurant played happy birthday in the background. While waiting for the car, there were 2 other families who also celebrated their birthdays there. I guess it was a night of many birthdays or a really popular restaurant to celebrate birthdays. Although my grandma doesn’t read this, I’m giving her a birthday shout out… Happy birthday por por! =)
