This place was a diamond in the rough, haha. A true gem, unless you had claustrophobia or vertigo.

Unfortunately this record store no longer exists at its current address. It really looked like a great place to stop by given some of the articles I’ve read about it online(as well as the reviews here). I gave it 3 stars for posterity, but don’t go looking for it if you’re music hunting like I was.

Oh the memories. My relationship with Accidental started one late night on a beer run. It was late, I was drunk, had extra change from the generous party goers and they were open. I’ll never forget the transaction because I was the proverbial bull in the china shop. My case of Schlitz accidentally(the irony wasn’t lost on me, it was however lost on the tattooed clerk) knocked over one of the towering stacks of paperbacks that littered the store. After helping to right my wrong, I took a minute to look around and properly assess the huge amount of inventory they had crammed in that tiny space. I was thoroughly overwhelmed. As it was I was in a hurry to get back to my party and make sure that my morning hang over was as powerful as humanly possible. So I left but vowed to return. Once again the clerk seemed less than enthused. I made it a point to stop by Accidental on my home from work every night. I would place a small limitation on the amount of money I would spend but I would always come home with a gem. Prince, Gil Scot-Heron, Fela Kuti, Guns and Roses, all purchased for under $ 10 at some ungodly hour from Accidental. I assume they must’ve lost their lease because one day they just up and disappeared. In what felt like something out of a drunken black out moment I think I came across them around the corner on 9th st or maybe it was 7th st but I never saw them again. I threw the towel in on my search for Accidental’s new location several years back and I haven’t been the same since. Accidental, I miss you. I wish i had the chance while you where still here to tell you just how much you meant to me. Accidental I loved you. No, wait, I still love you. If you were to open back up I promise to only by my books, Cd’s, DVDs and even my porn only from you. But alas the chances of that happening are as likely as me sprouting wings out of my butt and flying butt circles around the east village. for those of you out there that remember Accidental maybe the next time you walk past the site formerly known as Accidental you can have a moment of silence in remembrance of a time not so long ago when the Cd’s, books and DVDs where a lot cheaper and came with a nice covering of east village grime.

Whoa, there is way too much stuff crammed into this space: cds, records, dvds, vhs, t-shirts, books. It’s insane. You’ll find mostly b-rated(I don’t mean porn) movies and indie music(e.g. I found something called«The Best of Dan;» wtf is Dan??? Does it matter? No, because for $ 1, you’ll buy it anyway out of curiosity). You’ll browse and you’ll laugh because some of these cd covers have hideously corny pictures. Occassionally, you will stumble upon something recognizable. But god, I love this place.
