Welcoming to all. A jewel of a synagogue. Beautifully conducted services with singing and drumming.

Tu B’Shvat at Actors’ Temple Tu B’Shvat – the birthday of the trees in Israel. Judaism has several New Years’ – Rosh HaShannah of course is well-known. On tu b’Shvat we celebrate the 7 species of Israel – wheat, Barley, Pomegranates, Grapes, Dates, Figs and Olives. Donations are made to the Jewish National fund to plant trees in Israel. At Actors’ Temple Rabbi Jill Hausman led us in a Kabbalah Seder through the Four Worlds – Atzilut(emanation) Beriah(creation) Yetzirah(formation) and Assiah(action). this was a thoroughly uplifting experience that gave nourishment to body and soul. Rabbi Jill Hausman and Actors’ Temple are indispensable to our Jewish Life in New York.

Sometimes theater, sometimes a temple. Small intimate theater that has some very interesting shows. Today it was«who’s your bagh daddy, or how I started the war in Iraq». The show provided doughnuts and coffee before the show, very nice touch. Always well worth the walk over to 47th street, between 8th&9th avenue

I came to this theatre to see an off broadway play with a friend on a Saturday night. The place was small but comfortable. However, once I was seated I realized(to late) that the further back you sit the harder it can be to see. The audience seating is level and not graduated like most other theatres. The bathrooms were pretty large but they were upstairs. During intermission I realized that the theatre must also serve as an actual temple part of the time presently or in the past. Im also not sure how accessible this theatre would be for the handicapped because I didnt recall seeing any assisting devices to get up all of the stairs. I enjoyed the play that we saw(The Girls of Summer) and thought that the story line was orginal. I definitely would return inthe future to see a play here now that I have a heads up on the seating.

My friend and I came to see an off broadway show via living socal deal on a Saturday night. Though a small cinema, the seats were comfortable with a great view of the stage. The play itself, «The Girls of Summer“was just as good and entertaining. I dont recall seeing a place to purchase drinks or snacks during intermission. The bathrooms were small and limited for the size of the temple. However, most places dont have enough bathrooms for the ladies. Overall, I would return to check out other shows playing in this temple.

My boyfriend and I went here on a Groupon for my birthday on the 24th to see Black Angels Over Tuskegee. I have to admit I was a little worried walking into the building. It looks like a really old school/church and I thought we would be watching a show with inexperienced students. Little did I know these were all grown men and they were completely AMAZING. This was one of the best plays I have EVER seen and I recommend it to anyone that can go see it. Great job!

Beautiful, historic building in the heart of NYC. Love attending Friday night services here — very warm, inclusive, and intimate.

I came here to see«It’s Just Sex,» and it was truly entertaining to see. I would truly recommend watching it. However, the facility was not an actual theater. It had chairs with cushions, but not that uncomfortable. Location is not too far from the main area.

Saw 50 shades of gray parody here. Loved the Show from beginning to end. Laughed so much we Cried. Funniest show we have seen all year. Had 4th row seats but would have been a great View no matter where we sat.

Saw Black Angels Over Tuskegee here and loved it! The actual facility isn’t upscale, but it’s very appropriate for the small scale plays being held here. We really enjoyed the location(very close to Times Square) and the play, and will definitely be checking out more productions at this theater in the future.

Saw 50 shade of grey parody here(highly recommended show). The theater is small but has plenty of seating. We sat in an upper level and saw the stage perfectly. We got tickets on Livingsocial so there really isn’t a bad seat in the house.

The theater is very simple, very basic. Simple padded individual chairs for seating. When we sat down we thought that given the very unpretentious nature of this theater, that the show would most likely be unimpressive as well. The show we saw here, Black Angels over Tuskegee was fantastic. It was powerful, memorable, educational, moving and enlightening. We took our 8 and 10 year old boys, who also very much enjoyed it and, we hope, learned something from it. This drama is written and enacted with incredible precision, spirit, emotion and timing. It is so well done that one forgets one is watching live theater as one becomes thoroughly imbued with the story and characters of this important reenactment of life, war, death, segregation, integration, inspiration, heroism, loss, triumph and culture of this period in American and world history. We attended six shows on and off Broadway during our recent 10 day stay in New York. This was by far the best and unlike anything else we have seen. All in attendance gave the performance a standing and emotional ovation.

Saw the Siren’s Heart… Norma Jean and Marilyn Monroe in Purgatory: A Story of a living icon. It was OKAY. The actress was amazing, the story line… Not so much. Was confused from the beginning to the end. However the tickets were cheap and the auditorium was nice.

My husband and I loved this play. I’m not sure what the other Unilocaler had an issue with. From what I could see it was a review based on the venue not the play. Don’t be fooled. The play was AMAZING. The temple is basic, the stage set up is simple but the acting is AMAZING. When the play ended all the actors lined up to thank us for coming to their show. I was still so motivated from the performance I was teary eyed. From what I could tell everyone else enjoyed it too because it was a standing ovation. The chairs were not pews as previously stated they were cushion seats with ample leg room. The location is right off of Broadway so its convenient to all trains and pre/post dinner/drinks spots. GO!

I came to Actor’s Temple to see the play«Black Angels Over Tuskegee». Actor’s Temple is a very small, basic theater that was formerly a temple. Some of the rows are still pews. The other rows have folding chairs. I found the seating uncomfortable during the almost 2.5 hour show. As the theater is really just a room(small temple space) with rows of pews or chairs lined up behind one another with a stage in front, you can still get a pretty good view even from the last row which is a pew. Other information: The restroom is upstairs and has a couple stalls. We were able to linger inside the theater afterwards and get autographs/photos of the cast.
