I like the ice cream but I LOVE the concept. My new neighborhood go to ice cream spot!

At $ 3 a scoop, it’s great when you want a little bit of ice cream but not a lactose food baby. I had the special of the week ginger ice cream scoop; it had a very distinct and flavorful taste. It also earned high praise from my various friends who sampled my scoop. I will definitely be coming back the next time I get a craving.

Popped in here just a few minutes before they were closing. I’m pretty sure they’d finished up for the night because it was all but shut down when my roommate and I came in but they were happy to help us get out ice cream fix! I had cookie dough which is far from my usual ice cream order but still quite good. It’s not the best ice cream I’ve ever had, but they have such an interesting variety of flavors, not your typical selection. I think it’s an awesome way to support teens working hard to gain experience, customer service is incredibly difficult. Everyone we interacted with had on a big smile and was happy to help. I attempted to add sprinkles to my cone, but it’s a server yourself sprinkle situation and it fell apart pretty quickly… aka I made a huge mess. I love the free sprinkles but I’m not skilled enough to get sprinkles onto a cone of ice cream without just dunking it in to the whole bucket… I ended up giving up on sprinkles after I cleaned up the ones I had spilled.

«You see, every once in a while, I… I suddenly find myself dancing.» I live next to this shop and have been here many times. I’ve had better ice cream, but they have an amazing variety of flavours. And really interesting ones. Why should you go here? It’s run by the Father’s Heart Ministries and supports teens, giving them work experience, helping them be responsible adults. They make the ice cream, run the register and manager the store. And usually the customer service is excellent It’s cheap! Two scoops($ 5) here is probably the most inexpensive in the city. I really like the milkshakes here — really tasty. The downside: * Their opening hours are a bit unpredictable; Even in the summer they aren’t always opening * Nowhere to eat inside. You can kind of sit on the steps. Or walk to Tompkins Square park which is only a few blocks away.

Hidden gem in Alphabet city. Tasty made by the folk for the folk ice cream. Great value. Solid people. Drop by some Saturday morning to «serve» up the neighbors. Oh, and the toppings are plentiful.

I have visited this ice cream shop many times, because I think that they are doing a great job mentoring teens! Their goal to give teens work experience so that they can find jobs as adults is great. The adults there are volunteers staff who mentor the teens. The teens get great job experience such as working the register, customer service, and making the ice cream with their machine! The ice cream itself is also fantastic! My favorite flavors here are the pumpkin spice(seasonal) and the cookies and cream. They have new flavors all the time, so try it out! Be mindful of their hours though, because they are not open every day and not throughout the year. Support this great cause!

Delicious, ever-changing flavors served by friendly staff in a welcoming environment, for a good cause. What more could you ask for? Perhaps being open past 8pm /October.

Love this place. They are very generous with their samples and have a lot of very delicious flavors. My current favorite is the Apple Pie, which is cooked apple cinnamon apples, carmel, pie crust, in a vanilla ice cream. They have some pretty good seasonal flavors at the moment so if you get a chance, check it out. Keep in mind that they will probably close for the winter starting November or December. Also, for those of you who are sprinkle lovers, this is a great place because you get to enjoy as much of it as your heart desires. Bottom line, it’s a simple ice cream shop with a good selection of flavors. Nothing too fancy but they do keep the taste interesting to keep me coming back.

Eating ice cream sometimes could be a sin but eating ice cream for a good cause definitely makes anybody feel great! This is a non-profit organization and the girls who work here are simply amazing! We tried their autumn flavor or caramel apple pie and we actually could taste the pie crust and sugared apple inside! The smallest scoop is 4oz and only $ 4. I can’t wait to go back and try other flavors! All for a good cause of course :)

If you’re like me, you’ll stop by Alphabet Scoop @ 3:55pm and assume the joint has been tragically shuttered. Alas, Alphabet Scoop opens at 4, when it opens at all(the store opened for the season on 4.15 and holds pretty limited hours, only on particular days). Payment options are minimal, but with remarkably friendly staff and 2 generous homemade scoops(ginger and Macy’s cherries jubilee) in a cup(cone option if you’re so inclined) for $ 4.25, who can complain?

A true gem in the East Village… the razzle dazzle w/caramel was delicious! What’s even more impressive is their mission of employing kids(a volunteer adult also works)… awesome idea!

Love their mission statement, its a feel good purchase, but 2 stars for the actual ice cream. It didn’t melt which makes me highly suspicious of whats in this dessert. I think their best flavor is the white chocolate raspberry truffle, the cookies and cream left me disappointed. I wish I could give a half a star for their kiddie cup option.

Ice cream: OK. I had the razzle-dazzle– white chocolate with raspberry and chocolate chunks. Tasty, but not awesome. People: Nice. But they only get two stars because they offered me a bible. The guy said, «You look like you need a bible.» and I paid and left really quickly. I generally don’t like people trying to save my soul when all i want is a bit of ice cream on a hot day.

This place is sadly underrated. It’s a gem in the East Village, offering delicious ice cream flavors like dulce de leche, white chocolate with raspberry swirl with chocolate chunks(or Razzle Dazzle), peach melba and ginger. The flavor of the week was Razzle Dazzle so my scoop was just $ 3 instead of $ 3.75. The scoop that I got was huge — it’s probably twice as large as scoops at Grom at half the price. They offer free sprinkles too.

Alphabet Scoop is a very unassuming ice cream shop in the alphabet of east village. The décor is very sterile and it sits half a story above the street. The ice cream is all made in house, with a healthy variety of standard flavors. I like this do-it-yourselfed-ness. However, I think the ice cream suffers from a mix of lower quality ingredients and ice cream machines that render the frozen treat filled with a crystalline structure that is more ice than cream. The highlight if the store is Roberto, an upbeat young chap manning the booth with charisma and class. The kiddie scoop was plenty for a warm afternoon post lunch. If I walk by and see him in there, I’d stop by for another kiddie scoop in a second. Roberto: 5 stars Store: 3 stars Ice Cream: 2.5 stars

As I am spoiled when it comes to ice cream due to the fact that my best friend owns her own shop and everything there is homemade(i suppose that makes me biased as well) I really wasn’t impressed with this place. I give them two stars instead of one due to the fact that they were friendly and helpful and my girl friend said the butterpecan was delcious. I had the chocolate brownie in a sugar cone and not only were there no brownie chunks nor did it taste like chocolate but the cone was stale and did not taste good. My other girl friend got the mint cookie and although at first we thought the idea of self serve sprinkles was awesome it proved to be a pain and quite messy. Also her waffer cone was stale as well. I would not go back except to get a free sample.

I love this place, with the bottom of my heart! They make each of their icecreams with love! It’s the perfect texture and creaminess! Prices are great and they give you heaping scoops! It is ran by a non-profit Christian society and the young boys and girls working there are working after school. I love that I’m helping them out by buying their ice cream. I am excited that they recently had a makeover by Macy’s, they deserved it! Strawberry, pistachio, mint chip, and their raspberry swirl with dark chocolate dispersed inside… very very good! They also have coffee, teas and hot chocolate! You can also try their flavors, they give it to you in the cutest little cup and scoop the ice cream with a melon baller… soooo cute!

Wow, Unilocal you taught me so much about this place. I was going to say was that the ice cream is pretty much the shizzz and at a good price. It is so tempting to get two scoops. The fellow behind the counter was like are you sure, they are big. WELLOFCOURSEIMSUREITSONLY50cents MORE for the second scoop. I was very wrong. Next time, my friend and I both got one scoop… still a lot. A children’s scoop is probably the way to go. In conclusion, yummers
