I love the food. But their service is almost non-existing and also their website and app are very buggy. Just now, I couldn’t place an order online because the item wouldn’t go on the shopping cart. so I called the location and they kept putting me on hold and I hear them taking orders from customers in the store. The lady at the cashier passed me to another gentleman. He kept saying i can do it on the website and app and I told him AGAIN that I couldn’t add the lunch special on the cart. I was the one who suggested placing the order on the phone and he said ok then placed me on a 5 minute hold while the order could’ve been made under 1min. I hung up because it was ridiculous but called back and the order was indeed done within a minute. Again, love the food but they need to step up their tech game if they are so «oh we updated our website and app recently». I couldn’t login to the app and kept telling me it’s the wrong email or password while i used the same login for the website and it worked. couldn’t put certain items on the shopping cart. also it doesn’t save your location nor does it have options in your account to do anything. Only reason I am going back: amazing food. but frustrating system and people.

Since my last review, I have tried Beyond Sushi two more times. The second would probably be another 4 star rating, and the third would most definitely be full 5 stars. Like many reviews have said, the nutty buddy is INCREDIBLE. The smell when I first opened my take out container was slightly off-putting, but wow, it was delicious. The red miso was pretty good, but I think the regular miso is better(likely just a preference thing). The fun guy dumplings are to die for. The only sad part is that it’s just 4 small dumplings and I wish there were more in a serving(especially considering price). I also got the piece sampler which was just as tasty as it was nice to look at. I finally tried the mighty mushroom(I believe is the name) and it was so delicious and ‘meaty.’ The coconut curry soup was so-so. I was expecting it to be a little thicker than it was(because of the coconut aspect) but it was very, very watery. Pretty good flavor, though. I ordered via phone for my second order and it was ready as soon as I arrived to pick up. For my third visit, I ordered at the location and literally waited less than 5 minutes for the take out order. It was great. I tend to be a pretty harsh critic, so take my word for it that this place is spectacular!

The sushi is 4 star for NYC, and 3 stars if you have been to Japan. The restaurant is small, with barely any space to sit properly. If the line is long, it will move fast, so be prepared to order. I had the spicy mang; I was influenced by all of these reviews. The picture of it turned out great and everyone is impressed. If I have a sushi craving in midtown, I will definitely come back, no hesitation, no regrets. But if I am craving something that will change the way I feel about life, I will probably go somewhere else. So in summary, this is my #1 favorite place for sushi in midtown. Confirmed.

Love this place! Amazing food, great staff. I went back twice in one week. My first visit was amazing — The Fun-guy dumplings were great, a must! and I loved the spicy mango sushi roll. The brownie is pretty darn good for a pseudo brownie. The time back I would pass on the sampler platter — although the seaweed salad was tasty, pass on the smokey Tom, but did really enjoy the Nutty Buddy roll. The in house lemonade drinks are all delicious!

Whenever I go to a Japanese restaurant or sushi house, I am the person that always orders the vegetable-based rolls. One, I can not eat raw fish for health purposes.(Be thankful if y’all have a spleen!) Two, even if I could, I wouldn’t. Because EW.(Ha!) So, on a rainy Sunday, when I was meeting up with two ex-roommates to catch up over brunch, we were finding it difficult to find a vegan-friendly restaurant for the two of them in the midtown mid-50s. Lo and behold, I discovered Beyond Sushi had opened a midtown location! I’ve read about their location closer to Union Square and it’s been on my «to visit» list. We all feasted on a variety of rolls, dumplings, and soups, and I was so pleased with all of it. I went for the Chic Pea, which encompasses artichoke, avocado, and cucumber with black rice, topped with a creamy saffron chickpea purée. HEAVEN. The light saffron kick was a subtle throwback to my childhood, thinking of all of the risotto I grew up eating. It’s rare I eat something saffron-based outside of that, and this was a wonderful incorporation. My friends went for the Spicy Mang and the La Fiesta; though both touted some spicier ingredients, the spice was subtle, even to someone like me that will have a mouth full of fire if I consume even the tiniest speck of cracked pepper. Ha! I’m unsure of what dumplings they ordered, but they killed them fast, very happily. They loved them and I think did contemplate ordering more! Finally, I ordered a small side of Coconut Curry soup with asparagus, which was creamy and delightful; it made for a great side with my rolls, a little more filling than a miso soup would be. Honestly, I am very impressed. I think even my raw fish lovin’ friends would dig Beyond Sushi. Though veggie-based, the combinations and recipes are thoughtful, creative, and very delicious. In addition, the rolls themselves are quite beautiful! I WILL be back!

Holy moly this place went above and beyond my already high expectations. We had 3 sushi rolls, 2 soups, 2 dumplings and pigged out. It was all mind bogglingly delicious. The mushroom dumpling and the spicy mang rolls were the favorites, as was the chili mushroom soup. Try the coconut chocolate ball for dessert and the fresh drinks were really good too. Please open one in DC!

This place is excellent! I was highly sceptical given that is a «veggie sushi» place but it was great. We had the Smokey Tom dumplings and a variety of different rolls. My favorite was the spicy mang. I thought it was pretty reasonable priced too. Warning to the traditional cheap fish overpriced sushi places in the area because this place could put you out of business!

When I lived in NYC a few years ago Beyond Sushi was just taking off and I used to frequent their original 14th St location near Union Sq. I’ve been happy to see it expand with additional locations and visit every time I’m in New York. It’s a vegetarian/vegan’s paradise! This was my first time at the midtown location. I was expecting more seating but it was only marginally bigger than Union Sq. The fact that there was a restroom here was a bonus. After the initial argy bargy for seats my friends and I secured three stools along the wall. We were so excited and wanted to try everything. The menu has continued to expand and now has dumplings, noodle bowls, soups and salads to go with the original sushi and rice paper roll items. I settled on a lunch special with the spicy mang roll(my all time favourite, along with Green Machine), cabbage dumpings(they were out of the mushroom), a curry coconut soup and a cucumber mint drink. What awaited me was the most divine food coma of recent times. The spicy mang and cucumber mink drink were delicious as usual, and the coconut curry soup was fragrant and surprisingly light. The stand out of the meal was the dumplings. I don’t know how they did it but they were phenomenal. I was so so full but sat there determined to finish every bite. Both of my meat eating friends were equally delighted with their meals. I tried some of the kimchi they ordered — which was tasty but spicy. The service, just as I’ve found in the other locations, was understated. I’m not sure if that is intentional but it does go well with the casual ambience. I would give Beyond Sushi 5 stars except for the seating debacle I face each time I visit them — in this location it was a little more noticeable. I hope one day they open another location with a significant amount of seating. Regardless I’m a huge huge fan and look forward to bringing my vegan parents here when they visit NYC in September.

YAY! I was looking for a good spot to get sushi to meet up with my best friend a few days ago and came across this on Unilocal.Looking at all the great reviews, I wanted to give it a try. Since we are both trying to somewhat eat healthier, I thought a veg sushi place would be perf. And it was. It was a bit crowded when we first arrived but service was quick. We looked at the menu and the guy at the register was super attentive. He took our orders and asked us for our names.(They called our names and walked to us with our food.) We ordered a lunch special each(you can select a sushi roll and a noodle salad/dumplings) — Mighty Mushroom roll(six-grain rice, enoki mushrooms, baked tofu, braised shiitake, micro arugula with shiitake truffle sauce) & The Badge dumplings [comes with four pieces]- charred cabbage, onion, garlic, bell peppers, carrots, sesame oil topped with chili panko, cilantro, and Ponzu sauce(it’s a citrus-based sauce that is tart, thin, and watery… commonly used in Japanese cuisine) — Spicy Mang roll(black rice, avocado, mango, English cucumber, topped with spicy veggies, and toasted cayenne sauce) & the Green Root noodle salad(green tea noodles, seaweed salad, roasted almonds, sesame seeds, parsley, cilantro, and ponzu sauce) Wow. I loved the mushroom roll so much. You know the whole thing about diminishing marginal utility where with each added unit of consumption causes a decline in overall satisfaction? Well, that didn’t happen here. One after another, it was scrumptious and just as satisfactory. The Spicy Mang was great too! Perfect balance of sweet and spice. The dumplings were tasty and savory. The noodles were yummy, though I’m not used to my seaweed salad being anything but cold… no complaints nonetheless. Very happy. Service was great. We were asked if everything was okay several times. We were even offered a small cup of water because it was so hot out(nearly 90 degrees that day). Thanks! The seating was a bit weird, especially since we sat by the windows of Beyond Sushi and were basically sitting ads of the restaurant. The chairs were weird and hit at each other and we were sitting at weird angles. Every single person that passed by looked at us and our sushi, dumplings, and noodle salad, especially when we were feeding our cameras before ourselves. Anyway, I would definitely visit again :)

I’ve been wanting to go here forever! And I finally went! The interior was surprisingly small but was lively and full of color. The person who took my order was very nice and answered all my annoying questions about whether or not the options were gluten free. Spicy Mang(A) This roll is cucumber, spicy veggies, mango, and avocado all surrounded my seaweed and black rice. On top is a toasted cayenne sauce. This roll was really good. It was the perfect amount of spice and sweet. The rice was an interesting texture. I would have liked it to be a bit softer, it was on the more textured side. The sauce on top however tasted a little strange. I would definitely get this one again though. Curry Wrap(B) This was pretty good. It had asparagus, butternut squash, and curry cauliflower with green tea noodles. There was a cashew sauce and it’s all wrapped in lettuce and a rice paper wrapping. It was a little strange and different. The flavors were on the subtle side. I don’t know if I would get this again, but I liked it enough to eat the whole thing! I was pretty hungry when I came and I had 4 pieces of sushi and half a wrap. It was pretty filling and very tasty. I am coming back! If you are vegan and love sushi but want to try something new and edgier, check out Beyond Sushi !

This would’ve almost been a 5 star review if not for lack of seating and ambiance. This was my first experience with Vegan Sushi and it was delicious! Every roll we tried was excellent. I will definitely be coming back here. Interested to see how the other locations measure up. Ambiance: Casual dining Time eating: 20 minutes(not really a sit-long-and-talk establishment)

Refreshing and innovative, Beyond Sushi is an excellent addition to New York’s veg scene. I can’t wait to return to try more of their unique eats! AMBIANCE: Although the Midtown location is small, there is a decent amount of tables and the beautiful carrot painting on the wall adds just an ounce of hipster vibes. SERVICE: Beyond Sushi, at least at lunch, is a minimal service joint. It’s a fresh but fast café. However, if you choose to dine in, the waiters bring the food to you. The man who took my order was kind and gave me a few recommendations! FOOD: Oh my goodness. Beyond Sushi sets the standards for vegan sushi. I’d highly recommend the Sweet Tree roll, a combination of six grain rice, avocado, sweet potato, and alfalfa sprouts. It’s topped with a creamy cayenne sauce, though I would say there’s too much kick. The avocado is creamy and blends seamlessly with the sweet potato. These soft textures are easily balanced by the chewy rice. I’d also recommend you give the Nutty Buddy wrap a try, if you ever have a day where you’re willing to order something besides their awe-inspiring sushi rolls. Wrapped in soft rice paper and stuffed with some of the best foods known to man(peanut butter, cashews, avocado, and tofu to name a few), the wrap is decadent yet so nutritious. The sauce, a sweet ponzu, cuts the creaminess perfectly. The drink menu is also quite impressive, offering a variety of lemonades and juices such as blueberry and watermelon. I tried the Strawberry Yuzu juice on my last visit, a blend of strawberry, kiwi, and Yuzu, which is a Japanese citrus. Very refreshing and tangy without being too sweet at all. Beyond Sushi used to offer the sushi and wrap combo; however, they’ve recently changed a few things with their menu and now offer a sushi and soup//salad//dumpling combo instead. PRICE: More expensive than your typical veggie sushi, but much cheaper than fish rolls(well, I’m assuming we’re excluding the rolls from 7-Eleven and the local grocery store.). You can get 8 decent sized pieces for under $ 7 and a wrap for under $ 10. $ 20 will give you a very filling lunch made from nutritious, exotic ingredients for sure!

The concept is great! Everything here is vegan and healthy as well! Love it! Pros: –All vegan –Rolls are made with brown rice or purple/black rice — They have combos and plenty of options to choose from –Flavours are okay. Cons: –flavours are only okay –miso soup and sides are extra. I wish there was a combo with soup. Verdict: It’s a great option for those with dietary restrictions but the flavors don’t come close to to real sushi.

Delicious & artfully prepared healthy food. Everything is flavorful, beautiful and yummy good. Even kids will enjoy their veggies at Beyond Sushi. There is a lunch special that includes a small soup. There are filling & delicious hand rolls, such as Nutty Buddy – it has buckwheat noodles, cashews, carrots, cilantro, tofu, avocado, peanut butter & a drizzle of flavorful sauce. This is a yummy, filling, hand roll. The Spicy Mango roll is a big favorite – it has black rice, avocado, mango, English cucumber, spicy veggies, & sauce. Sweet Tree has sweet potato, 6-grain rice, avocado, alfalfa sprouts & a yummy sauce. And there is LOTSMORETOSELECTFROM. It’s all great!

It is great to see that Beyond Sushi now has a Midtown location! They offer a truly unique take on 100% vegan sushi-no fake meat, with interesting and delicious combinations of plant based ingredients. You know, the kind of food we all should be eating. I think I have tried everything on their menu at this point, so my top recommendations are: –Spicy Mang Roll –Green Machine roll –Nutty Buddy wrap –Seaweed individual piece –Blueberry lemonade Even if you are not vegan or health conscious, you must try this place. The expert balance of textures and flavors in these Japanese creations is impressive. The food is also surprisingly affordable-a massive lunch and dessert for two people came to $ 27 with tip today. Really sweet service and all credit cards are accepted.

My first time to give vegan sushi a try! I love it. My friend thinks it was too healthy! lol Well, depending on how you define healthy. But there are a lot of carbs for sure! So each sushi is pretty small, I think in order to feel full, you need to at least order a combo! I had the spicy mango sushi, and the mushroom hand roll. Both of them are delicious. If you have never tried vegan sushi, you should give it a try! They do taste really good. The place is clean, but it was kinda cold that evening with front and back door constantly being opened with people coming in and out :(

I love beyond sushi! This was my first time at the midtown location. I must say I am happy I stumbled upon it. If you’ve been to the union square location, you will be happy there is a little more space. The new menu is pretty cool. They were demoing some of the items here, but let me know the official menu would be out soon. I loved the spicy mushroom soup and the rice paper rolls! They have all the regular rolls — spicy mang is my favorite. If you are going for a stroll in central park; walk a few blocks down and get some awesome vegan sushi.

Guys. I am giving a vegetarian sushi place 5 stars. It’s true. My world is upside down right now. I was looking for a place to eat and I was feeling like a fat pig, so I thought«Hey, maybe I should try out Beyond Sushi». I had passed it many times and laughed it off, as I am not generally a healthy eater nor a vegetarian because I actually like food. I reluctantly came here because of the good reviews. Wow. Wow. Wow. The rolls were amazing. I could almost be a vegetarian if I could eat Beyond Sushi every day. The flavors are inventive and bold, the ingredients fresh and the textures make each bite a delight. I want to try everything on the menu. Mark this day down in history. Jenny Porkchop is excited about vegetables.

I’m not one for anything vegan or vegetarian — ever. I used to like Morningstar chicken… Anyway, I wanted to try something new and out of my comfort zone for lunch. I am sick of sandwiches. I had the combo — $ 11.95 — a little pricy, don’t ya think? I got the nutty buddy wrap and the spicy mango roll. I was pleasantly surprised. The meal was both filling and very tasty! I actually REALLY liked the spicy mango roll. Service was also good — very fast and very friendly. I will be back for another spicy mango roll :)

I first tasted their food when they catered for an event that I attended. I recently went in and tried their food. Ambiance: Small, bright clean and modern. They have a couple of tables to sit but I noticed most people were doing take out. Service: Nice and friendly. Food: I had the fiesta rolls and they were super yummy. The only drawback is that although it comes with 8 rolls, they are super small and I was hungry an hour later. Overall this is a great vegan option and the food is so fresh. I would love to try more dishes.
