The food is good but the place is very small and very loud! We ordered bowl of guacamole for starters and it was very spicy! We asked for second bowl in mild and it was perfect. Tamalis were ok. Chicken fajita was great! Chicken tacos and quesadilla were tasty! It’s impossible to finish their portions so we took what is left w us. Order a sangria from red wine in 1 liter pitcher. It is refreshing and very very good!

We’ve heard some good things about this spot. It seems as if Mexican is not cheap in the city. I suppose I need to accept this. Margaritas are not good. Not much flavor. Save your $ 11. Guacamole and chips is about $ 13. We ordered it with medium heat. It definitely could have used more spice. It is a nice size, but one would hope that for the cost. It was a bit bland, but I enjoyed it. Chips were good too. I had the steak fajitas. They were $ 23. All fajitas were the same price. I asked for a little cheese for them and bam $ 3 on our bill. Come on, that was sneaky. The waitress offered to mix steak and chicken. Since I asked I was told that’s an upcharge. Huge turn off. Sneaky doesn’t earn you more of a tip. I liked the fajitas because it was a large portion. They mixed in zucchini, mushrooms and other tasty vegetables. The steak was tender and plentiful. My hunny had chicken tacos. Shredded chicken. Not my thing, but flavor was good. Service was great, minus the sneaky up charges. I would recommend it especially if you’re hungry.

Café Frida has wonderful food, drinks and atmosphere. Some of my favorite items: the hibiscus margaritas(with pomegranate juice — yum), their fabulous guacamole, and the trio of lamb tacos is delicious.

This is seriously some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had! I’m Mexican so I grew up eating everything that’s on their menu. I only had the guacamole, sopa Azteca and the chile relleno. AHHHMAZING. The guac was perfectly blended with ingredients, the soup had an amazing unique flavor that is pure Mexican, and the chile impressed the hell out of me. I only gave four stars because the customer service could have been a little better, it wasn’t bad at all but they can use improvement in that area. I live 3 hours away from New York but sure enough I will visit Café Frida every time.

Service was okay, Not so pricy but food to me was great, Guac was yes spot on and I could eat their Lamb tacos every day and not get bored. It is very simple slow cooked braised lamb in beer & avocado leaf, doesn’t look much but tastes A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Wife ordered a Salad with chicken it was okay but next time around she ordered Tinga de polo(Burritas) and it was very good. Definitely authentic and I’d recommend it to anyone want some authentic Mexican food. As for drinks Margarita was okay but I rather make mine at home as it is better and has least 2 extra shots in it free of charge ;)

My wife and I take our Mexican food very seriously and wete delighted with some of the best guacamole we’ve ever had. We enjoyed sharing tge enchilada mole with roasted tomato soup and the corn soufflé. The mole easily equalled what our host family in San Luis Potosi made(a recipe passed down several genrations). Service was superb.

Food and service are good. I didn’t leave here raving, but it didn’t disappoint either. The Guac was made really well and was most memorable. I had the fajitas, which todo fue bien con eso. My friends tried the sangria and I hear it’s good, but a bit sweet. If I were to come back, I would go for the plantains and tres leches for dessert. Ambiance is cute and good for a group of 2 or 4. Check it out.

Came here with family that were visiting from Texas after going to the Museum of Natural History. We were starving and we’re planning on shake shack, but of course there was a long line so we went here which was right next door. The place was also busy and we were seated upstairs. It was so hot it felt like we were in Mexico and asked the waiter to please put on the AC and he did so quickly. Our waiter was very personable and attentive. I ordered a Michelada to drink and it was spicy, but really good. I also ordered some empanadas filled with goat cheese, squash blossoms and it was delicious. The rest of our party enjoyed their food except my mother in law whom had chicken enchiladas that she said we’re very bland. My complaint was the bathroom which was really small and there was a long wait to use it. One last thing, I suggest not to ho there on an intimate date cause the place is very loud.

Food was average and it came in Small portions, flavorless food. Salmon was good but the sauce was overpowering in the amount they out on it.. White sangria was tasty. Service was splendid and detailed they explained the menu superbly.

I’ve lived on the UWS for more than a decade and today was the first time I tried Café Frida. Honestly, I wasn’t missing much. My food was fine — I got the steak tacos and sweet fried plantains. They were good — but I can get the same meal for much cheaper at many other taco spots in the City.

They sat me at the bar and forgot I was there. I had to call in to get service. But since the frozen margarita wasn’t so bad and got the job done(going tipsy to the Museum of Natural History was fun!) I give this place an additional star.

So there’s a number of tacos on the brunch menu. And a few of them are the same price. The tacos come three to an order. So I ask if I can have three different fillings and I’m told that I can’t. I can have only one filling but says the waiter if I want three different fillings I can order nine tacos. Now I feel like my waiter is a stand up comedian. Maybe he’s Andrew Dice Clay. And it’s not like the food tastes like it was just made. Carnitas tacos should have more than simply pork inside. Salsa? Cheese? Something? It’s just another restaurant with less than passable food that doesn’t realize that customer service is Job One. Passable hibiscus margarita closed out a truly mediocre meal.

Stopped in after originally wanting to go to Shake Shack next door, but line was too long for a 2:30 pm meal. Had the lunch special chicken mole enchiladas which was decent. The included roasted tomato soup was actually the highlight of the meal. Wife had another special which was also decent. My daughter wanted a simple bean and cheese burrito and when we asked the waiter what cost would be(not on menu), he initially suggested $ 13, same price as the other burritos on the menu. For a bean and cheese??? Opted to get a side of rice and beans with some extra flour tortillas. Probably a better place for adults who want to get a couple of drinks and maybe appetizers. For a family after a museum visit, I think there are better choices nearby.

Looks like an adorable place but I was unpleasantly surprised once I was seated. The service was extremely slow and inattentive. My friend and I ordered guacamole and chips, the chips were way too salty. The shredded chicken tacos barely come with chicken and doesn’t come with anything on the side. Overpriced for what you get.

The service was slow but friendly staff. The guac did not disappoint. The jalapeño salad didn’t say what kind of greens were in it and I was dummy to not have asked It came with kale which I can’t seem to enjoy raw. Oh well the tuna was really good though and so were the enchiladas suizas.

After spending hours wandering around Natural History Museum, we decided to look for a place close by to grab a bite to eat. This place looked pretty busy but we decided to try our luck anyway. We weren’t able to get a table right away but there were several seats open at the bar. I went for the frozen mango margarita, guacamole and pork tacos. All were delicious, especially the margarita and tacos. We ordered the guac to be spicy, but I thought it was pretty mild. Overall it’s fairly priced with quality food. Only suggestion is that they have a guac and salsa combo instead of having one or the other.

Service was really good and fast. The gauc is definitely something you’d enjoyed along with the queso fundido. My date and I had the barbacoa tacos and enchiladas. Both were cooked very well. Nice spot to have a date, atmosphere with the dim lighting is a excellent romantic venue.

I had a wonderful day at the Natural History Museum across the street before coming here for a much needed lunch and beer. My boyfriend and I were seated in the corner near the door. Tight, but cozy. We ordered our beers and started looking over the menu. Pricey for Mexican, but it’s NYC so I don’t expect anything less. However I really hate spending over $ 11 for a margaritas soooo beer it was. We opted for the two soups on the menu to start. He ordered the chicken with rice and I ordered the Mexican tomato. Wow — I absolutely loved the Mexican tomato(Soupa Azteca)!!! It was really spicy and flavorful. They give you a dish with cheese, torillas, etc so you can add whatever you like. i threw it all in! My main meal was nice and light. China Pablana salad, which was just avocados, tortilla strips, tomatoes and an avocado dressing. It was pretty good. My boyfriend ordered the braised lamb burrito. Also good! Overall a pretty decent spot that I would go back to.

Avoid Shake Crap and get some good healthy food. Minutes from the museum great lunch specials for $ 15. Like the skirt steak, black beans and a cheese enchanlanta. Portions a little light but tastes and nutritional Space cramped but bar looks inviting. We don’t drink hence no advice on the margaritas but imagine they’re as good as the food.

Went here for dinner with friends. The experience wasn’t good. Why? First, the server was rude, she’s overwhelmed with the crowd at that time. The food? Not good. I don’t understand why the review on the chicken mole is so great. I had the lamb shank, is just so-so for the price of $ 24. Will I come back? No
