After me and my friend were in search for the GNC located in Grand Central Terminal and it turns out that it has closed #bummer We had 40 mins left of our lunch break so we grabbed lunch in the dining concourse. My friend frequently eats at Café Spice and I was craving for something different that I normally eat on my break. I ordered a combo of Lamb Vindaloo and Chili Chicken with white rice… didn’t get anything to drink since it cost me $ 12.52 holy moly that’s killing my budget lol Luckily I found a table for us as someone was about to bounce. The containers seriously needs to change because too much rice and not enough meat as I am a carnivore… you know =) My friend is vegetarian so good thing they have a lot of vegetarian friendly dishes and I did try some of hers but forgot to try the Vegetable Biryani. I can’t eat it every day because its giving me the ITIS of being too stuff hahahah! It is a popular lunch spot as a huge line formed after we paid for our food!

For $ 11 I got way too much rice and a few pieces of chicken. Though I was better off since the chicken and the tikka masala sauce were ick.

I go here often. The naans have eggs in it. I ordered a kati roll vegetable which they introducted recently. How wrong can you go? Worst kati roll over. Aloo kale is good. Daal is ok.

These guys used to be good 10 years ago but the new guys keep getting my order wrong. They barely listen as they are too busy talking to each other. Check your order before you leave.

Overpriced for the portions(mostly rice, very small amounts of the main dishes) and not very good — eaten there several times and found the sauces to be watery and one-dimensional in flavor(heat but not much complexity). There are other Indian places in the East 40’s that are better and less pricey. If you must grab food in Grand Central, you’re better off with a different choice.

i am a huge fan of chicken tikka masala and what i tasted was not it. their chicken curry was actually pretty good(surprisingly) but because i had my hopes set on having delicious indian food for dinner, i was so disappointed! the sauce had a slightly tangy sweetness that i’ve never tasted before(maybe even a bit sour? i can’t place my finger on it) although this stall is conveniently located in grand central and the workers serve and move you along ever so efficiently, i don’t think i’ll be coming here again for my favorite indian dish.

Prices are right in line with what I’d expect from the GCT dining concourse. Nice variety for a meat eater too. My first and only time going I experienced a very friendly staff. I ordered lamb samosas(not too flavorful but it’s a food court spot) which were fried perfectly and accompanied by minty yogurt sauce and some kind of tamarind sauce. I also had the chicken naanwich. Light on chicken but expertly grilled and filling as it came with some delicious dal tadka! I’ll be back to try something else.

This is an very good place for some curry-in-a-hurry, my favorite of the Grand Central options. Well, I’m not even willing to break out and try the others. In a way the fourth star is silly because this is just Indian cafeteria food, it’s just that the nearby competition makes them look so great.

One of the best Indian foods in Midtown happen. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to try real Indian Food for cheap.

If I could give them no stars I would. I am a vegetarian and India is where vegetarians came from– this restaurant only had two vegetarian choices… both of which were god awful. First of all, only having one daal and calling yourself Indian food is a shame. Secondly your vegetarian stir fry(yeah stirfreakingfry) was garlicky and soggy. The naan was leavened– naan is not supposed to be leavened. The service was slow and grouchy. I would and will not go back to café spice when I return to grand central terminal, I know authentic Indian food-I’ve been all over India and this was just inexcusable.

Happy there is an Indian food joint in grand central. Wish it were better though. Food is basic and flavor is not that strong — they make it for masses and the result is usually watered down curry, but it’s curry nonetheless. Then again, if world class restauranteur Danny Meyer can bring a world class burger to this place why can’t Café Spice offer world class Indian food? Hate places that are perfectly content being mediocre.

While there was a line of 4 customers, I saw the staff jokingly do nothing in front of my eyes while there was nothing left to do other than put the food into the boxes. This went on for 10 minutes. There were customers who didn’t even have their orders taken. On top of that they got multiple orders wrong, and there were only 4 customers on line! They had 4 people behind the counter. It’s mind boggling how incompetent they were. On top of the bad service, I puked up my lunch. It was gross and disgusting. I should’ve known better. If the service was that terrible then how do I know that the food is fresh, not passed the expiration date, how do I know that the cooks washed their hands. I don’t. Don’t go here. You’ll get food poisoning.

Delicious all natural & healthy Indian food — to go! Love coming here for a quick meal. The mimosas are tasty dipped in green suave. Pica pica!!! They always give me naan bread. They know I’m a sauce dipper.

By far the worst place to eat in the Grand Central food court. Prices are expensive and food is sub par. Something as simple as Chicken Tika is done wrong. They use what seems to be shredded chicken. They combo platter is salad(read lettuce only), rice and the chicken tika, the chutney I was supposed to get wasn’t included. Also who eats Indian without naan. Food taste was also way sub par…

Quick take out Indian at Grand Central’s Dining area. Very filling and tasty. I had the chicken tikka masala with palak paneer and a piece of naan and rice. Gut busting but so good. Spicy like I asked for and delicious. They are really fast and the wait isn’t too bad even at peak times. Yum!

I come here almost every time I come to the city. It’s pricy but, it’s Grand Central, it’s all expensive. The food is decent, I speak Hindi and everyone speaks it back to me and they are all exceptionally nice. That is the big reason I keep coming back. There is better Indian food around but, the service here is hard to beat. I always order garlic naan and they have always made me a fresh one, you can’t beat that. Now, if I start getting served old soggy naan like some other people on this review, then I’ll lower my start count. Until then, I will keep coming back. Oh, the salad on the side is just weird. In no other Indian place do I order curry and it comes with a few slivers of lettuce and one slice of tomato but, whatever, I eat it lol.

I have been meaning to try this Indian restaurant, and I am glad I did not read any of the reviews prior to going. I know… their prices are a bit high; however, what isn’t inside GCT? The Thai restaurant right by it is about the same, and I didn’t feel as satisfied as I did from my lunch from Café Spice today. I ordered the lamb dish, with rice and it comes with a side salad. Simply WOW. Yes, it was $ 9.50, and worth every penny of it. Perfectly spced and went great with the basmati rice. I know where to go for a craving of lamb, Indian style now for lunch! I wish I had time for a nap at work!

Just insanely over priced. Naan(bread) is tough and stale, each of their chicken dishes I’ve had were fatty, heavy on sauce, lite on meat. A medium sized takeout container will have a ladle of entrée with the rest filled with a cheap«salad» of wilted iceberg lettuce and red onion and white rice. For that and a soda you pay about $ 15. A sad gouge, poor quality and the perfect example of an owner caring more about grabbing money than they do about quality food and repeat business… and that makes me sad. Avoid this place.

I’d go here over that damn Eat A Pita, but if I had more time, I’d go elsewhere to get my «Sorry, I’m eating fragrant food on the train… GETOVERIT!» dinner. But, still… They had Saag Paneer with basmati rice and«salad»(…yeah, a few shreds of pale lettuce and a chunk or two of tomato) for about $ 9.50. Being the cheese fanatic we all pretend not to be, I really just ordered this for the paneer. I won’t even mince words. It’s certainly decent. Not bad at all. Above all, it’s filling. I want to be sustained on those 2 hours between the city and Wassaic, as my dear mother usually has a nice… box of cereal waiting for me at my parents’ house. The Saag Paneer here certainly does the trick! The nice man behind the counter threw in a few free containers of dipping sauces, calling it a «souvenir» whilst winking at me. Since I had changed out of my work clothes prior to going to Grand Central and was walking around in my raggy college hoodie and black leggings, lugging around my overstuffed North Face backpack, I must have looked like a tourist that would be impressed with something like that. Ehhh. I was, regardless. Haaa. (I just like free condiments.)

People who know me, know my affinity for Indian food. If there is a food cart selling burgers and another selling samosas, I’m going to the latter. Food court Indian is the allure that exceeds almost all of my other cravings in any given food court. But Café Spice Express was nothing more than disappointing, if not some of the worst Indian food I’ve had. I understand the GC food is going to be spendier, but higher prices should command a certain quality of food, which Café Spice can’t seem to execute. It’s already very difficult for me to pay top dollar for Indian food, but it’s even worse to get stuff that is barely edible. Most of the curries here are watered down and lack a lot of spice or flavor. The combos aren’t exactly a deal at $ 10+ each and the Roomali Rolls are nasty. Service is about as bad as the food. The guys working behind the counter were very rude, asking people in line, «What do you want?!» I feel bad for Grand Central visitors coming here, New Yorkers already get a bad rap for being impolite, but it’s places like Café Spice that actually deserve it.
