Food is delicious. Service is friendly and attentive but not annoying. The ambiance is spot on. Our favorite place to dine.

On Sunday we had a lovely brunch at Chagall Bistro in Park Slope. I had an asparagus and tomato omelet that was excellent. The restaurant is charming and the staff was gracious and professional. If you want to eat there on a Sunday, the restaurant opens at 11:00 and within minutes, every table was filled.

Chagall, a new-ish Kosher French restaurant in Park Slope, isn’t your typical French eatery or steakhouse. Chagall is as much about the experience as it is about the food. The couple who run this establishment have put an immense amount of effort to ensure you enjoy your food and have a pleasant time. Its ambiance — low light, slow music, candles on every table, and a mirrored-back bar, set an intimately unassuming tone. The décor is semi-rustic and romantic, but in a very benign way. The table staff were amiable, and their table manner was excellent. They were well versed in the menu, and explained it as if reciting the ABC’s. On my first visit, on a date my now wife, we each got the crispy sweetbread salad, which was delicious. The balsamic-ginger dressing and pine nuts transcended the taste — enough to make me want to recreate it at home. As I exited, the owner’s wife asked me how everything was — similar to the way a mother would ask her son how a job interview went. I found her question comforting. I like the idea of someone caring about how a meal went after you pay. It made me know that she not only cares how the meal went, but that she wants me to return, and values feedback. Apparently the owner and his wife switch off in overseeing the restaurant. A month later, thinking about a possible place to propose to my wife, Chagall came to mind. My idea to propose in this restaurant seemed to flatter the owner, who put me in touch with his wife. She expressed the same enthusiasm, and told me she’d do anything she can to make it work. We eventually settled on a flower arrangement centerpiece, extra candles for the table, and a bouquet and champagne for the actual proposal. I also requested that she inform my waiter that my asking for a dessert menu cued the time to bring out the flower bouquet and champagne. In other words, dessert menu meant it was time to propose! Because I wanted the table set up when I got there, I was put in touch with the head chef, who let me in before the restaurant opened. I asked for the table by the window because I wanted to experience the charm of Park Slope too. He promised that the table would be set up with the candles and flowers by the time I arrived. He was true to his word. When I arrived, the table was beautifully set up with candles and the flower centerpiece. We ordered the grilled prime rib($ 43), which came with French fries, greens, and peppercorn sauce(tasted barbecue-y). I wish the sauce was served warm/hot so it doesn’t cool the steak down. Still, the juicy steak bursted with flavor, and the fat enhanced the taste. When it came time to order desert, the waiter brought out the bouquet, a bottle of champagne, and coffee-chocolate cake(which was on the house). Right on cue! The owner was nice enoigh to take pictures and send them. Oh, and I almost forgot, as you might of guessed, the wife said yes!

Honestly if you walked in you wouldn’t know it’s kosher and the food was excellent. Had a very nice bottle of wine and the waitress was very friendly and helpful. Had the 20oz medium and it was perfect and my wife had the 10oz ribeye. Dessert was good also. Will Def return. There was a group of 10 there and boy were they having so much fun. Thanks for a fun meal.

Chagall Bistro is great! Great because they are authentic. As a kosher restaurant it is difficult to bring the exact cuisine to fruition but Chagall does not fail. Being, that the owners are French brings everything to a whole new level. I celebrated my birthday here! Pictures and descriptions posted below. Absolute pleasure. From start to finish, it was so much fun. Service was top notch — Food was out of this world phenomenal — and price is actually quite on point. Would absolutely come back again!

Good food but terrible service. Did not bring us bread or water until asked. Took forever to take our order. Neglected to bring out wine menu after being asked. Failed to take away appetizer plates when bringing out entrees. Overall neglected by waitress.

The food is great. The owner is delightful, French cooking skills, Jewish warmth. Great place I was shocked at how good the rib eye was. Normally I don’t eat steak in a restaurant figuring I can make it at home, but I asked Danny the owner for advice and as usual he was spot on.

Ditto on all the positives below. With a daughter living down 5th, we had passed by many times. We came with friends for my birthday and decided to share small plates. Everything was wonderful, including the recommended wine. The wait staff was attentive, friendly, yet professional. It has been my experience during my many visits to New York that you get what you pay for. Well done and well worth it. Thanks to everyone for a memorable evening.

The food was above average and the service was great. However, they included the tip in the bill and there were only two of us. I realize this is a French custom, but I’ve never seen it(even in a French restaurant) in America. We would’ve given more!

My boyfriend and I came here to enjoy a nice Sunday brunch. There weren’t many tables filled in the restaurant when we walked in so, we should have taken that as a warning from the start. As usual, we just started with water to drink. We received our bottle of water to find a little piece of bread floating it in and a little piece of food stuck at the bottom of my cup. When we asked for a new bottle of water the waitress seemed a little ticked off. A couple of moments later we ordered our brunch. I ordered scrambled egg whites with mushrooms and chives and my boyfriend the eggs florentine. To start, we ordered two croissants and two cups of coffee. We waited fifteen minutes for the coffee and croissants. It was crazy. Remind you, the place was not busy at all. As we received our coffee, we overheard the table next to us complaining about the food. Though I couldn’t hear exactly what was being conversed, I did hear the manager say, «The food is great quality and the chef is very upset.» Another bad sign. Our croissants were just given in the basket without any plates for us to leave them on. When I asked for plates we received plates from the bar that were covered with dust. This was starting to feel like a big joke. Our food came another fifteen minutes later and my scrambled egg whites were just regular scrambled eggs. I don’t like sending food back and at this point I was already fed up, so I just told the waiter what I ordered and accepted the food. My boyfriends egg florentine were fine, mine was too, except for the fact that there was too much salt. All in all, first and last time there.

Atmosphere — not bad for a kosher restaurant, the table arrangements could be better. Food — We split sweatbread salad which was delicious. The ribeye cooked medium rare was one of the best steaks I’ve eaten at a restaurant. I would not recommend the asparagus soup. Service — REALLYBAD. After waiting 30 minutes after our reservation time to be seated, we were finally sat by the hostess. We were sitting there waiting for a waiter or waitress to come to the table. Finally after about 10 min I asked for a menu, and the waitress asked if we wanted a dessert menu. Overall just very unprofessional. When our waiter finally came he was very attentive, but the hostess and some of the other waitresses seemed clueless and are probably deadweight to the business. The guy who ended up bringing our food to the table was also nice. I hope that the owner sees this post and has his staff get their act together.

A decent French kosher restaurant at the heart of park slope. I went here to attend a dinner graduation program. The restaurant has a private room that seats around 30, but it’s tights. The appetizer, amuse bouche, finger food included melon balls, salmon, and quiche. They were decent, but nothing to rave about. Dinner I ordered Bronzino. It was filet fried and a bit too oily for my taste. It lacked seasoning. The best part of dinner was dessert. The chocolate cake was pretty good. Moist and was served with vanilla ice cream. Coffee was served with soy milk to keep kosher. All in all I think the place is good. I would only consider if dinning with a friend who keeps kosher.

Had high hopes. The owner Danny is really nice. But the food is a complete joke. Very expensive for what you get and the taste is blend. Mind you I love spending money on food. Go to philly and try Citron&Rose. That’s what you should taste when you get a bill of $ 100 for one person. Another thing that is annoying is that they charge 18% gratuity. This is a terrible habit of many restaurants. Tip needs to be based on performance and not just a free price hike. The good thing about the restaurant is it’s ambience. But unfortunately not enough to make it worth while.

We had a delicious brunch today at Chagall. No wait. Great table by the window. The egg dishes were scrumptious. The wait staff is very friendly. And the ambience is delightful. I’ve walked past the place for a while and finally went in. Definitely returning for dinner. Highly recommend.
