Clara Beauty Salon

I’ve known this salon and it’s owner for more than 20 years. It’s upsetting to say that while they were within reach (literally a few doors down or right across the street) I disliked every time stepping in there. I’m currently trying to find another salon to go to and I seriously wouldn’t go to them if it was out of desperation.
They don’t seem to know how to deal with natural black American hair and are so quick to suggest using chemicals for straightening. Go here at your own risk!

I’ve been here a few times and each time I dislike it more and more. They burn your hair. Slow attending you. The staff are poor on the customer service. I only return here because its across the street from my apartment. But I’m done. The search for a new salon starts now!

I’m not from NYC but come here often so I have my favorite places. Today I was pressed for time and needed to find a salon that opened at 8AM — Clara’s was a savior. Not only did they open promptly at 8AM as displayed, but the salon is very clean, you’re greeted by smiling, friendly, faces, the employees take pride in their work AND it was the best wash I’ve ever gotten.
I am definenty returning!

I decided to give this Salon another shot and I’m glad I did. Seems to me that they have let go of staff members that were not working out. All the ladies that work there seem to know their stuff. The staff is friendly, the salon is clean and bright. They have enough staff to handle the volume of customers that come into the salon. One Friday night I came here with my two daughters. Not only did they do an excellent job on our hair. They gave me a discount on my youngest daughter’s hair. I would recommend their services to anyone.

Not the place for short hair…
I appreciate the second beautician for doing her best job on a much needed head which needed a perm.

Reasonably priced, quick service and great service. My daughters and I love it! They trim very well.

My granddaughter has a thick head of curly hair which we love. Occasionally, she likes to blow it straight. Onely the stylist did a fantastic job. She was gentle and patient, considering the condition of my granddaughters hair. She’s not always up to par with her hair. Check out the photo. I highly recommend this salon and Onely.

In at 6:15 after Eddie Jrs shut me down. Wash, blow, flat iron, pinned curls, out by 6:48. $ 30 + 2 for using my credit card. $ 5 tip. Natural shoulder length hair.

Exceptionally fast, efficient and reliable. Their colourist is very well-​versed, and will offer honest opinions and suggestions before proceeding. It can be a little intimidating, as I don’t speak Spanish, but they are always nice and will get another coworker to translate if needed :)

My review is SOLELY on the hairstylist Maria. She is AWESOME! Have been going to her for the past 5 years and following her to new salons. She is one of the very FEW people that can get this curly hair into a very manageable, shiny straight look by just blowdrying it. She’s very friendly and her prices are very reasonable. $ 25 for wash and set. She’s great at cutting layers as well.
The salon itself is a regular salon, lots of ladies washing hair so you are not just sitting there and lots of hair dryers — so they are efficient. It’s not fancy at all but it does the job and they take credit cards which is rare at Dominican Salons. I was in and out — wash, rollers, and blowdry — total time about 1hr 15 minutes. I couldn’t ask for anything better.

I will give this place two stars because my 6^th grade curls in 1998 came out very pretty and there were two other occasions where my hair came out decent. The most recent time was two years ago I was getting my hair done for a dinner and it came out AWFUL. Too wavy and greasy when I wanted it blow dried straight and flawless. Its fairly spacious, but the hairstylists need to step it up. I’ve had a few good outcomes and quite a few bad ones.
Its not bad, but not my first choice for styling my hair.
