Fun times watching all the mayhem with people trying to get into PDT, even saw a guy leave his date behind because they both couldn’t get in. Ha ha. But seriously, the dogs are decent… But the cheesy tots… Amazing!!!

A good hotdog+A bit expensive+Takes too long+Rude waitstaff=An East Village Gem. I always take folks here when it’s not too busy. It’s crazy late at night from drunk people. Don’t get the tater tots delivered because they’re always soggy.

Thank you for offering a veggie dog and thank you again for grilling it. It was amazing in every way. I went with mustard, relish and raw onion and a side of cheese fries which weren’t at all greasy. If I lived in the city, I’d eat here all the time. Oh, and they have Miller Lite in a can. It’s like my dream meal.

I am not a big fan of hot dogs but this place was great since they have unique flavor combinations and since they FRY the wiener. This is a very small space so you will be lucky to find a place to sit inside. I ordered and LOVED the jon-jon deragon which had cream cheese, scallions and everything seeds. The only reason I docked off one star was that service was super slow and it took forever to get my one hot dog.

It’s an interesting place for sure. Not very spacious but definitely a nice place to sit and chat for a while. I have been there for lunch during the week. The food is okay, especially the chili cheese fries are really tempting. I had a hotdog and the fries and was very pleased. The staff is very friendly, you feel welcome right away. When you sit there you have the weird opportunity to watch people going inside there, not to enjoy a hotdog, they are squeezing themselves in the phone booth, which is part of the restaurant. Some research has shown that this phone booth is part of a secret bar. The secret bar still needs to be explored from my site though. I just can recommend the hotdogs.

NY hotdog joint must eat! Try the chihuahua dog it will not let you down. It can get crowded. The place is small. And the restroom doesn’t have a lock but hey who cares their hotdogs rock.

I went to crif dogs with two other people and all of us were astonished that over 1400 Unilocalers came to this place and it has maintained a 4 star rating. The hot dogs are tiny, the young guy who work there is impatient and rude and they charge an arm and a leg for everything(including $ 1.50 for two slices of avocado-see pic). Overrated…

The place is trendy and thier hot dogs are OK, but avoid the vegetarian option. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting when I ordered the vegetarian corn dog, but the batter was the only thing good about it(plus it took significantly longer to make, which would have been fine if it was good, but it wasn’t). Those dogs suffer from the«vegetables trying to be like meat» issue that plagues a lot of meat substitutes, but the fact that it’s an option is appreciated.

Loved the creativity with the hot dogs and the prices were reasonable and the side of tater tots was more than enough for me and my boyfriend to take down. Just a nice little spot to grab some grub and chat because they don’t have wifi which is their deliberate attempt to foster actual conversation

I ordered a simple crif dog hot dog. It was made to order so it was very fresh, hot and the sausage was most delicious. The bread was solid and decent. The additional onions pickle and gherkins were a nice touch. The fries however tasted like they had been made of cardboard. They were hot but not very potatoey or fluffy. They didn’t taste like fries at all. All in all I’d definitely come back for the hot dogs but I’d skip the fries.

Came here for lunch on a Friday and it was practically empty. I’ve been to other criff dogs in the city and Brooklyn but this was my first visit here since moving to the East Village. We ordered the chili dog, chihuahua dog, and the spicy redneck. We also ordered the chili cheese tater tots. All of these items were very good but my favorite was the spicy redneck. It had great texture and a perfect amount of spice. This will definitely be my hot dog place in the area when I need one.

Born and raised in NYC. Admittedly the Bronx, but still, eaten all over Manhattan. Saw this place on Bourdain(I know! How hipster). But I LOVE hot dogs. Usually a dirty water dog kraut and spicy mustard zealot. This was worth the stop in. Crowded but I see why. GREAT food! Staff was FAST and funny and laid back. Aside from the pretentious lalas waiting to get into the bar behind the phone booth, this place is spot on!

Crif Dogs deserves a solid 3 ½ stars. This is no soggy, dirty water dog, my friends! The dogs themselves have great flavor with a delightful snap. They’d be great with just simple condiments, but the creative toppings they are adorned with take these dogs to a whole new level, though admittedly some are hit and miss. Corn dog: Totally average. Good, not great. I’d skip this one. Chili Dog: Good. Could have been great, but their chili game is definitely lacking. The chili shouldn’t be the most bland part of a chili dog. Needs more spice and flavor. Chihuahua: Get 12 of them. Good god they are good! Overall, I would come back for the chihuahua and to try a few more varieties, and to go through their phone booth, which I did not get a chance to do!

Crif Dogs, I have to say you surprised me. I was expecting a boiled hot dog with a piece of fake cheese on top and to be honest, for a late night spot — a may or may not have been okay with it. What I got what something that way exceeded my expectations! It took a little longer to get our hot dog and we knew that mean they were making it fresh. The dog was extra juicy and of good quality. And when you hear you are getting bacon on your dog you don’t expect it to be cooked to order and it was! Our bacon was crisp and wrapped around the dog like it just came out of the fryer. Then cheese melted over it with a perfect fried egg on top. The atmosphere is extremely funky and just not my scene. But it’s fun to experience new things. If you are in the East Village this place should be on your list to try.

If you want 3am food come here. Seriously, awesome chill vibe. They sell hot dogs and all the food you’ve been craving for since you went on your most recent fad diet. Run for an extra 20 minutes, and come gorge yourself on the awesome chili dog, and tater tots with cheese and jalapenos. You will not be disappointed. There are a few tables, some old-fashioned video game machines, and a phone booth, which apparently you can go in and get access to the speakeasy bar behind it. Cool concept! Open until 4am.

The minute I read there’s a place where you can get deep fried hotdogs with a bunch of different topping combinations at a cheap price, I knew I had to add it to my places to check out when I visit NYC. When we walked down the steps into Crif Dogs, the spot seemed really cool. It reminded me of a dark man cave. Everything was either wood or brick. It wasn’t that big at all with a few picnic benches on one side and a couple stools on the other side of the room. Going with the whole man cave theme, there were also a couple cool hidden features. The bathroom is behind a sliding wood panel that looks like part of the wall. Right next to that is a phone booth which is actually the entrance to the speakeasy next door called Please Don’t Tell. As for the food, we ordered a couple different dogs. I got the Good Morning Dog, which was basically a bacon wrapped hot dog that’s deep fried and put on top of a fried egg that’s lining the inside of the bun. Pretty ridiculous combination that I’m sure went straight to my heart haha. It pretty much tastes exactly how it sounds, a hearty breakfast in a greezier format. Being deep fried, the hot dog was juicy in the center and it created a nice snap with the crisp skin. I also tried a bite of the Spicy Redneck which had some good heat from the peppers but the coleslaw kinda balanced it out a little bit. We got a side of tots, which paired perfectly with my breakfast hotdog. They definitely didn’t skimp on how much they give too, and it was a rare occasion I didn’t kill everything I ordered. After trying a few of their dogs, everything lived up to our expectations, nothing more, nothing less. It didn’t really have any unique flavors that were super memorable, but it wasn’t bad either. It’s a good spot to get some tasty, greasy food that will definitely hit the spot after a night of drinking.

This is one of the more popular late-night eats establishments in the East Village. Located in a great, young and hip area that is great for exploring and hanging out. Would recommend the Chihuahua, which is a Crif Dog with Avocado and Sour Cream. It proved to be a simple, basic, yet quintessential association of ingredients that failed not to unimpress. This place also served tater tots, which throws it back to middle school. The only downside was that it was super crowded near the entrance at night due to the masses trying to get into PDT. That’s why we got it to go.

Crif Dogs NY Manhattan St. Marks 11:30pm Friday 29th May 2015 Four Stars We were waiting for PDT for the last Three Hours so we decided to check in to see where we were at. I decided on a little snack. I had the Spicy Redneck $ 4.5 which was a juicy dog wrapped in bacon and then topped with chili, coleslaw, and jalapenos. It was quite spicy but absolutely delicious. I also played some Metal Slug for $.050 a play. The wait staff were loud but friendly. I enjoyed the atmosphere of this place.

I hope your friends aren’t as awful as mine, because mine have allowed me to live in New York for years now without ever dragging me to Crif Dogs. They’ve let me think Papaya King was the«king» of dogs in NYC. I’ve been living a lie, a horrible, terrible lie. Crif’s exceeded my wildest dreams when it came to a hot dog. I didn’t know something so simple could be so elegant, so refined, so delicious. Okay, I need to take a step back and calm down, I’m talking a bit crazy. This is what Crif Dog’s does to a person! It drives them mad with delicious hot doggy-ness. My horrid friends and I stopped in last night and I was pleased the second I walked in. Retro video games were all over the place and had I had any cash I definitely would’ve played a round or two. The hot dogs are a little less than 6 $ but boy are they yummy. I got a Good Morning dog which my boyfriend stole many a bite of. My boyfriend and a friend got the BLT and another friend a Tsunami. Both were yummy, but not as orgasmically delicious as the bacon-egg-and-cheese dog I was consuming. We actually stayed for seconds and each of us got a repeat of our order. We also got an order of cheese tots for the road, and they only lasted a block or so. They were an amazingly crispy, cheesy, potato-ey mess. We just stood around and ate since all the seats upstairs were occupied, but I didn’t even mind, I was way too happy with my hot dog. Can’t say anything about the speakeasy, but it did have a very long line. If you like regular bacon-egg-and-cheese sandwiches I suggest the Good Morning dog. Heck, I suggest it even if you don’t like bacon-egg-and-cheese’s. I can’t wait to go back and eat another, and another, and another.
