UPDATE: I reached someone via the Disrepectacles website, and found out that Dr. Deutscher and all patient records have moved to a location at 101 University Place between 12th and 13th Streets. Great news! Color me disappointed to find that Disrespectacles, and Dr. Adam Deutscher, are no longer in TriBeCa or the West Village. Dr. Deutscher took care of my husband and me for years. He was warm, professional, and above all, a good neighbor. Let this serve as yet another heap of well-deserved praise for his service, selection, and kindness. If he doesn’t practice in NYC again, we’ll be heartbroken. If anyone here has any information on Dr. Deutscher, please post it, or message me!

Dr. Deutscher is awesome, friendly and thorough. The staff is fun and knowledgable. The selection of glasses is suprisingly good for the small size of the shop, they carry alot of the designers I seek: Dita, IC Berlin, Prodesign. The only downfall is they don’t take insurance.

I just went to Disrespectacles for an eye checkout so this review will be for Dr. Adam Deutscher as I didn’t actually buy anything while I was there. I have been wearing glasses my entire life(since I was two) and I have never met a doctor as thorough, precise and calm as Dr.Deutscher. He was at the counter when I arrived and from when he took my information to my exam to when I walked out the door he was incredibly professional. He listened attentively to my questions, answered them well and overall he just radiated competence. I am going to make him my primary optometrist going forward.

For a shop called«Disrespectacles,» it’s ironic that the strongest impression left on me is how NICE they are. The gentleman who helped me pick my frames was friendly, the girl who answered the phone when I called to check on my order was bright and cheerful(and even recognized my name and knew the status of my order without needing to look it up), and the fellow that I picked up the glasses from seemed positively delighted to see me. I feel like I ought to knock a star off for an admittedly limited selection, but I found more frames that I liked here than at shops with many more on hand. Chalk it up to their discriminating taste?

Glasses are probably the one accessory that can take you from stodgy to swank in an instant. If you’re looking for that kind of eyewear, but have no idea what kind of frame your face needs, Disrespectacles should be a required stop. These two shops(one on Christopher Street and an über-sleek location on West Broadway) have a pared-down selection of funky, trend-setting styles and colors as well as functional, black nerd-glasses. The shop assistants are helpful and pleasant while recommending frames and offering advice on what looks good. This store has the collector in mind, so don’t expect those glasses you loved last month to still be displayed(although it may be possible to order them). But at $ 200-$ 300 a pop(not to mention lenses), you may just be looking for a pair that’s all-purpose. Either way, you’ll find something unexpected here.

If there is one accessory that can take us from meek to chic in an instant, it’s our sunglasses. It’s true; of all the gear in our arsenal of self-expression, a hot pair of sunglasses is the cornerstone accessory for any style-savvy urbanite. And if your arsenal is well stocked, you have a few pairs — one to reflect every mood. Feeling mysterious, intrepid or particularly virile? Opt for the aviators. Going for the athletic or sporty look? Pull out that wrap-around, aerodynamic number. Or, needing to get in touch with your inner diva? None other than a pair of big, black, boochie-shades will do. Like a flashy new car, sunglasses beg to be test driven. You need to try them on and model for a few minutes(or a half hour) in a three-way mirror. In fact, shopping for shades can easily become an exhausting daylong ordeal, trekking from one end of the Denver retail landscape to the other in search of the perfect pair. Well guys, want no more. We’ve discovered the retail land of plenty. Meet Disrespectacles. One of New York’s hippest eyewear boutiques has just migrated West and opened its doors in Denver. Far from Sunglass Hut, this industrial-sleek spectacle emporium carries only the best in American and European eyewear. Choose from a plethora of high fashion, hard-to-find, or ultra high-end boutique brands, including Philippe Starck, Bevel, Paul Frank and Oliver Peoples –just to name just a few. The shop also boasts an in-house optometrist and an equally impressive collection of designer Rx frames for us visually challenged and Lasik-free folk.
