DS Studio

I was looking for new look and for the first time decided to die my hair. I went to this place that gave me a horribly green ombré. Then I went to DS Studio and Tina the color specialist worked wonders. I showed her a picture of my desired look and she delivered. The price I paid was substantial but the work done was definitely worth it.

Awesome salon. I went in for a haircut today and was lucky enough to get the owner Dimitris. My hair was super dry and flat before and now it’s soft and bouncy. Gorgeous. He also styled it which was an unexpected treat. The hair wash was AWESOME and so relaxing. I nearly fell asleep. Also, I’m 7 ½ months pregnant and the staff was so accommodating to make sure I was comfortable with water and an ottoman to prop my feet on. I would highly recommend! Not at a pretentious NYC salon at all.

I set up an appointment with DS Studio not too long ago and I am very happy with what was done to my hair.
When I walked into the salon I had a yellow, brassy-​orange, copperish color that I did not want. (The hairstylist I had previously gone to, not from DS, had tried to make me blonde and totally failed.) After a very professional and genuine hair consultation with Harold, the Color Specialist, I was ready to have a healthy look to my hair and remove the color I wasn’t content this. He was so focused on making me happy with my hair and pretty!
Harold honestly worked wonders; I did not think my hair would’ve turned out the way it did. I was suggested to go back to dark brown with light brown/​blonde highlights to then go a little lighter, to then eventually have the color I ultimate want. He kept streaks of the color I already had, but gave me dark brown lowlights. So the yellow, brassy-​orange, copperish color actually looked light brown/​blonde …all with a single process; I loved it!
I am definitely going back to DS for a follow up. I know Harold will give me the look I am looking for. Everyone in the studio was so nice and attentive. It’s definitely a comfortable and welcoming environment! — I even got a Hershey’s white chocolate kiss after my hair was done; my favorite! :-)

Harold Egan. That’s all I can say. This guy kills it. I had the opportunity to have him work on my hair when he was freelancing in New York. He was trying to find «the perfect salon» to suit his «style and professionalism.» He talked to me all about how important customer service is to him and his ideals about hair color. I didn’t know anyone could care so much about hair color, but this is clearly his passion.
I take my hair color very seriously and can get unrealistically distressed when something goes wrong. I’m a big believer in natural looking hair with a hint of pop to make it stand out. He totally gets that. I was flipping through magazines (looking at clothes and celeb gossip) and he kept pointing out what made the models’ hair so beautiful. A highlight there, a gloss here. I really didn’t understand what he was talking about, but it worked… My hair looks amazing! I have a photo shoot coming up so it needs to look incredible and it does

I’ve never been so happy with a cut, highlights and gloss. I would normally never pay this much for my hair but I’m getting married and got a bloomspot deal so I figured I’d give it a shot. I will definitely go back. Huge deal for me since I complain about spending anything on my hair, this is the first salon I’ve felt was worth it.
The staff was polite and attentive. I didn’t sit under the lamp longer than necessary and I didn’t have to wait between the color and cut. I had an 9am appointment and the salon was blissfully quiet. The shampoo and gloss were nice and relaxing (one of the few times I didn’t feel like I was scrubbed like a dirty dish!). I love that the salon doesn’t have that hair dye smell and after I left my hair didn’t have any scent from product.

I’m the type of person that always tries to buy local/​organic/​sustainable as much as possible… but I’m only human! A woman needs to have beautiful hair, and organic hair products I’ve tried just never held up as well, or cleaned as thoroughly. (I have really thick hair so both of those things are a major concern.) All the products they use at this salon are from a line called DS Organic Haircare, which was created by the owners, Demetrios and Savita Potamianos.
There are no junior stylists here, only the extremely talented Demetrious and Savita and I’ve had the pleasure of receiving haircuts from both. Demetrios is a genius, but that goes without saying! Savita has a very nice technique for thinning out the tips of my extremely thick mermaid hair to give my hair shape and more defined layers.
I have never left this place not gleefully flipping my hair from the haircut I just got, and the joy even spills into the next day, when my hair isn’t already oily like it is with other organic shampoos I’ve tried. I’m very happy to finally find a line of hair products that lets me be organic without sacrificing how I look!

I love my blowout. I did think that the salon would be fancier, given the location. But I do love my blowout. It’s bouncy and looks nicer than a lot of the blowouts I’ve had recently.

Wanted to get an updo for a wedding I was attending. After the great highlights that I got at DS Studio, I thought I’d try them out for the updo. The «S» in DS Studio, Savita, did my hair and she did a phenomenal job. I’ve had some bad updo’s in the past (e.g. — matronly, too «bridesmaidy») and explained my concerns to Savita. She was able to create a loose wavy chignon, exactly what I asked for. I got compliments all night.
My one «gripe» in the process was that while my pincurls were setting under the heatlamp, Savita proceeded to do a whole men’s haircut. It left me waiting around long after the lamp had been turned off for her to come back and finish my ‘do. A bit frustrating and made me feel like a 2^nd class citizen, but the final product was so good, I can let this go…

Keratin treatment — 1 star
The staff treated me great, and the entire experience while I was there was great. Dmitry did my treatment. Afterward, he blew it out and ironed it, and it looked great. It stayed looking great until the first washing. It was better than usual, but not much. It was still frizzy. I had to iron it out all summer. It would still frizz when I worked out or walked around in the humidity.
It has now been 2.5 months. It took me this long to figure out that I am nearly alone in this experience. Everyone I talk to that has had Keratin, wherever they have gone, has been happy.
In fairness, I did not call the salon to tell them. It is very possible that Dmitry would have done another treatment or done something to make me happy. But I feel I have waited too long.
