I love Empty Cup. The instructor and senior students are kind, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable. The atmosphere isn’t rigid or aggressive, but still respectful and serious about the practice of Karate. If you are looking for good Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate, with friendly folks and no egos, check out Empty Cup.

This place rocks! I’ve been studying at Empty Cup Dojo for a little under a year and I’ve noticed significant changes in my body, spirit and self. I’ve been the most active I’ve ever been since joining and can confidently(but not arrogantly) walk with my head up high, knowing that my body is a capable and trainable instrument.

I’ve been going to Empty Cup since it started a year and a half ago. Sensei Matt brings a great energy to the class and it shows in the great progress and camaraderie of the students who have joined. We are a goju ryu dojo, but Sensei Matt has expertise in a variety of martial arts styles which allows us to explore our movements with an eye to their practical applications. The idea being that exploring how the kata(forms) might be used in real life or sparring will help improve our technique. I believe it has improved mine and certainly creates an enthusiastic and fun atmosphere. We have great spirit in our classes, and so I’d recommend Empty Cup to anyone looking to explore martial arts with your body, mind, and heart. It has been a great experience of learning and growth for me!
