The Food Truck Court at Vesey Street North has a rotating group of trucks, so the list is different every day. Consequently, it’s really difficult to give the court itself a rating that’s meaningful to Unilocalers. This outdoor dining experience is not just dependent on the mix of trucks, but on the weather. It is located right next to the Hudson River and, while a pretty place, can be downright unpleasant when it’s cold or rainy. Still, the view can be wonderful, and the yachts berthed nearby pull you away from the reality of being in the middle of the Financial District/WFC. During warmer months this is a terrific place to hang out. PJ Clarke’s usually has tables out nearby, and there are always people milling about or sitting on the benches. I’m sure it will be even more exciting once the Brookfield Place(WFC) construction is done.

The good: lots of good, rotating variety. The bad: if you get there after 11:45, expect to spend probably 20 – 30 minutes between the line and the wait for the food.

I was sooo excited when this food truck court finally opened. This is not exactly a destination. They’ve closed virtually all other lunch options in the area due to renovation, leaving us angry worker bees to compete with the tourists for food. Located outside of 250 Vesey Street, right next to Mercantile Exchange, the court consists of 4 – 5 rotating trucks between 11am and 3pm(M-F only). Check out the schedule here: . My favorite is the Munchie Mobile, which brightens my work week nearly every Wednesday. Their Kiss of the Dragon, a grilled or fried chicken sandwich topped with avocado, onion ring, BACON, sriracha and sweet chili sauce, is my favorite cheat day lunch. As you can imagine, all the lines get pretty long, especially when it’s nice out. Other favorites include: Souvlaki GR($ 5 gyro), the Treats Truck(but they haven’t come around lately), and Eddie’s Pizza(if you like thin crust). Unfortunately, it looks like most trucks(and most importantly to me, the Munchie Mobile) don’t open until close to 12, so I have yet to find a way to beat the crowd. The lines seem to move relatively quickly though, so grab a few tolerable coworkers(kidding Roni & Nancy, you guys rock), dress warmly(it’s always colder by the water and standing around sucks), and bring some cash(most of them are cash-only). More seating available in the Wintergarden(inside WFC2 – 3).

A superb service provided to the area — the rotation of 4 – 6 trucks every day during the week really makes a welcome change to the same old chains and street vendors in the area around WTC and WFC. All the trucks are members of NYC’s Food Truck association and so is a real showcase for the dying breed of mobile food vendors in the city. My favourite is hands-down Schnitzel & Things(usually Friday); with Shorty’s in second place on taste alone. Taim Mobile wins my vote for value for money, though it is so popular you can be waiting a while.
