I still stand by my review but it’s been a few years since I’ve seen Dr. Spinelli because he stopped taking my insurance. Been thought two more gay docs since. There’s more out there and seems like they’re marketing themselves a bit more.

Dr. S is one of the finest, most gracious MDs I’ve ever been to. His care is personalized and professional. When I was having financial issues, he worked with me until I was able to make payments. I was a bit worried that his popularity and presence within the community would make him an intimidating presence, but he couldn’t have been more genuine and down to earth. Maybe Adam accidentally posted on the wrong Unilocal page?

My experience with Dr. Spinelli was essentially the opposite of RM’s. Dr. Spinelli is the worst doctor I’ve ever had, by far. Admittedly, I went to him for the wrong reason – convenient location. In 11 months, I saw him five times, and spoke on the phone with him three. He was incompetent – as in unapologetically & arrogantly uninformed and misinformed about medical issues affecting HIV+ people and gay men, his patient base. He was close-minded – as in unwilling to read medical journal articles that I gave him about issues affecting me(and many of his other patients) about which he was misinformed. He was judgmental – as in, blaming me for and disbelieving me about my health issues. He was impatient – as in, unwilling to spend time or effort on someone whose medical issues aren’t always simple. He was verbally abusive – as in, yelling, using foul language, and hanging up on me. I don’t expect a doctor to immediately understand everything about my medical issues. I just expect them to be patient, humane, open to learning how to help, and to «First do no harm.» Dr. Spinelli harmed me. Max C.‘s suggestion that I’m just blaming Dr. Spinelli for my health problems contradicts the reality that I’ve received competent treatment from other medical professionals. In contrast, Dr. Spinelli physically and emotionally abused me. I don’t blame anyone for my health other than myself when I’m to blame. I do blame people who abuse me. I’m a little apprehensive about posting this review. Dr. Spinelli is wealthy, powerful, good-looking, and socially popular. His treatment of me also proves that he can be incompetent and mean. RM’s review proves that he’s not this way with everyone. I’m sure RM’s experience and review are genuine and honest. So are mine. I feel that people thinking of going to Dr. Spinelli deserve to be informed.
