Love to shop here and I am satisfied with the services.

I would have loved to have been able to use the Gilt Voucher I bought for a cut and style at Georgia. With all of the rave reviews that I read about the salon, I was very excited to experience the hype. However, after trying to make an apointment, and being told that they would get back to me they never did. When I called again, the woman booked my apointment for a week later, but was less than enthusiastic, and seemed more reluctant than, happy for my business. Much to my surprise, when I showed up for my apointment, the salon was closed, and shuttered. What a giant disapointment. Gilt was nice enough to refund my money for the voucher, and assume responsibility for the poor business etiquete that Georgia Salon showed. Shame on Georgia.

I had a reservation for a cut at 5pm and at 3pm the same day I received a call saying my spot had been given to someone else. They offered no restitution, no new appointment, and were incredibly rude. I definitely won’t be going back.

UNPROFESSIONAL&UNORGANIZED! Last year I made an appointment for a consultation so that i could have my natural hair trimmed & colored. I was given a date and told I would get a confirmation call. As it got closer to my appointment date, I realized I never got the call. I just so happened to be in the area so I decided to stop by to confirm. When I spoke to the young lady at the front desk, she informed me that she had lost my number.(WHAT?!) So although I was annoyed I agreed to reschedule(even though I had the initial day scheduled off work). The night before my rescheduled appointment, I received a text message, instructing me to contact the salon regarding my appointment. I called & spoke to Jodie, one of the owners. She informed me that the stylist, I was scheduled to see was out sick with the flu. Now i understand people get sick but to be inconvenienced twice! It was just too much. I expressed my disappointment and told Jodie about my experience. She offered to put me with another stylist but alot later in the day. I told her that my schedule wouldn’t allow it and she offered to give me 50% off any service if i decide to come in the future. I told her I would think about it. Months later, I called to ask about a product & was told they would have the product in stores in a week. I called a week later they said another week for sure. A week later, I stopped by and they still didn’t have the product. The other owner was there and we ended up discussing my prior experience. She didn’t seem very concerned but she did offer me 25% off any service(which was ½ of what her partner offered) I declined and decided to take my business elsewhere. Natural hair salons are limited in NYC, so Georgia really could serve as an asset to the natural hair community. That said, I strongly doubt they will be open for long if they continue to conduct business in this manner.

This place has lost the stylist that I loved, & are quite disorganized. It’s gorgeous inside, & they turned me on to my favorite hair products(«Mixed Chicks»), but they kinda need to get their act together as a business a little bit more. Still nice place tho!

Love them! Been seeing Elizabeth for a few months now. Everything a salon should be. No long waits, individual attention, terrific products, a well-trained stylist. A bit on the pricey side though.

Awesomeness! I went there, met the owner, she directed me to natural products for my hair. They were PERFECT! The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I’m coming back again this week for more products. And maybe my big hair cut. We shall see! The perfect place for getting your girlfriends a gift or to get yourself a little something you deserve!

It is with great sadness that I write this review. I am burdened by the weight of knowing that this amazing amazing place, a place deserving of such accolades will upon getting their deserved praise become so sought after that I might have to fight for a spot. But, I can’t help my part in it… I must gush. I’ve been to every salon in the city that focuses on curly code word difficult hair. I had read about Georgia in Oprah Magazine and was struck at the owner’s description of their experiences. I welled up when they spoke about how many places treat certain types of hair as something to be dealt with… as problematic… as needing to be tamed. I can’t even begin to stress the epic story of my hair… or rather other people’s relationships with my hair. If I had a dollar for everytime someone nose crinkled, head to the side suggested I really should try to straighten it… well Bloomberg would be my butler. Warren Buffett would clean my pool. And I’d probably hire Steve Jobs to do… whatever it is he does do(I don’t know it’s magic, right?). Well, the magic is in house at Georgia too. The atmosphere is very cool. It’s like a warm bath. Laid back, but refined. Cool items to peruse. Great music to delight in. A staff that engages but let’s you do your thing. It is like coming home after a long day of work. The woman who cut my hair, Elizabeth, was amazing. I’ve alway been taught by route ways of dealing with curly hair… ways that are used on every other girl with curly hair. She went through my hair and explained to me that I had several different types of curls and textures in different places and cut them so that when they were doing their individual thing… they were still playing on the same team. I loved the openess towards options… I have always wanted to try and blow out my hair just for me. We talked about curly places that treat the desire as blaspheme. And, I get it. I don’t want to cave into all of the negative implications straight haired society puts on me. But, I do want to have fun and options. And, I wasn’t shamed for it here. In fact, Elizabeth offered to teach me how to blow out my hair should I want to stop by some afternoon or evening. WHAT? This is everything a home should be, warm, embracing, non-shaming…it helps you walk out into the world as your best self. Thanks, Georgia!

This place is SO cool. I called in the afternoon to find out if they carried a special cream that is hard to find in NYC. They were polite, inviting and sounded kinda mellow and zen. Loved the vibe immediately. I went after work and there were no customers at the moment. Usually, when you go to a small boutique place like this and you’re alone, the staff sorta hovers. That always makes me uncomfortable. The lady behind the counter greeted me and then let me peruse at my leisure. I found my cream immediately and began trying the different ones on and only after a little while when I needed to wash my hands did she magically appear. So she had been observing unobtrusively. Just the way I like it. Fits with the cool vibe. She then helped me choose the right cream for me. She was knowledgeable, friendly, didn’t push a million other things but did suggest an oil which I didn’t pick up due to monetary constraints but may look into. She didn’t push it and only recommended it because she has been using it and liked the results. The other staff member and I chatted about the art on the walls, our children, the importance of encouraging them young, yada yada. She was sweet, charming and just plain nice to talk to. My experience there was very comfortable. I was serviced with a certain genteelness that is charming and even more importantly found what I needed. Oh, and they carry lots of interesting things like everyone else has noted. Can’t speak for the salon services but I may bring my daughter who has very, very, very curly long hair. Either way, I’ll definitely return.

Georgia sneaks up on you. It’s like a 1920s beauty shop with tons of unusual products to explore. I haven’t been to the salon(prices seem exorbitant), but the shampoos, conditioners, styling products, lotions and nail polishes are all worth a look. My friend picked up some products for curly hair, and I found a matte red nail polish that’s awesome. They also sell neat vintage hair combs and other accessories. I haven’t bought something everytime I have been here, but it’s always worth a look.

I absolutely love this Salon. I have been seeing Sharie for color at Georgia for the past several months. I have loved the service I received and have been extremely pleased with my color. Sharie is a true gem: always happy, sincere, and smiling — a pleasure to chat with. She is the only colorist there, which is great. Sometimes at other salons you can feel like someone forgot about you in the corner while your color sets. The personal attention I receive in this salon is unique. As for the color, I could not be more pleased. The color is vibrant and it doesn’t fade or dull. The salon also really convenient. They are open late, and my schedule is always easily accommodated. Georgia also has a well-selection range of merchandise from jewelry to lingerie to beauty products. I have no complaints. As long as I am in NYC, this is going to be my salon!

Over the last 20 some odd years of my life, my hair in its natural state has been favorably compared to; –the rain forests of Kumasi –the wool from a black sheep –Angela Davis’ inspiration for her fro — and lynching ropes(don’t ask). .Needless to say, I’ve got a headful of insanely thick, kinkily curly hair and(other than braids) I don’t know what to do with it. And aside from the constant offers to straighten it*, few beauticians have a clue, either, because if I had a nickel for every offer to relax/hot comb my hair, Bill Gates would be jealous.(sidenote; I’m happy to be nappy — why is natural hair such a threat to the P.O.C. community?) But Georgia does! Just walking into this lovely store/salon makes me feel as if I’m in safe hands; the sales associates are all nice and informative, without being pushy. And while I adore drooling over the handmade moisturizers, delicious face creams, TOCCA candles, and lingerie on display, it’s the hair care that truly win me over — somehow, Georgia has managed to stock and sell just about every quality hair-care brand/line ever made for wavy/curly/kinky hair, including Mixed Chicks, Mizani, Keritase, Miss Jessie’s, etc. What really blows me away is the simple in-house salon towards the back of the store; yes, it’s just a stylist’s chair, a mirror, a few tools, and a heart shaped washing sink(!) but it’s been comforting to see someone with«my hair» being styled every time that I’ve visited. Georgia, this could be the start of a beautiful relationship.
