It’s Christmas time @ the Heights… Roommate, her friend and I went out for a bite. We don’t feel like cooking, and most of the restaurants are closed… except of course, the Chinese ones. Golden Star was walking distance of where we all lived, so we ended up there. Atmosphere: Not bad at all. Most of the Chinese restaurants I’ve been to are basically made for take out, but Golden Star is an actual proper sit-down restaurant that has offers wait service and offers tables/booths. The place wasn’t super packed(being Christmas day and all), but that made for a nice, quiet environment where the three of us could talk. Service: Run of the mill, nothing extremely remarkable. Food: Very good. I had the General Tso’s Chicken combination platter, while my roommate and her friend had the Seafood Treasure. The food was hot, very flavorful and loaded with fresh veggies. In addition, they do offer a lot of food for the price. We all ended up having to take our dishes home. Only caveat is that if you ask for substitutes in your dish there is a $ 3 charge. I don’t mind paying the fee, but wish that this was disclosed while ordering, not after I get my bill(ergo why I rated this place three stars instead of four). Overall– tasty food. I’d come back again next Christmas.

This is NOT greasy take out Chinese food — the dishes have a lot of fresh vegetables, nothing is greasy, the dumplings are delicately made, it’s just quality all the way around. I’ve tried all of the Chinese restaurants in the area, and Golden Star is by far the best. It’s not even close. For the price, you really can’t do any better. The service is also excellent — the people who work there actually remember who you are and are just really friendly. Don’t think twice.

I really like the food here, but definitely dine inside their restaurant where they can see you. I ordered my food at 4:10 pm tonight. I am still waiting for it at 6:00. I only ordered a single dish of brocolli, tofu, and shrimp, and two spring rolls, so I can’t imagine what is taking so long. I have called twice. It maybe the best Chinese food around, but it’s also the slowest.

Ordered for the first time and was super happy! Hadn’t had Chinese food in a Very long time and this was well worth it! The fried rice wasn’t super greasy which is great. Egg roll was amazing! Will definitely order from here again!

Consistently good Chinese food, large portions — my go to for delivery or takeout in Washington Heights. Fried rice must be fresher or spiced with sesame seeds or something, it’s really good. Sushi is good, nothing out of the ordinary.

Very good food. The wonton soup was full of bok choy and the wontons were very good. We had the pork fried rice, too, which was great. The pork actually tasted real(not just«meat-like pieces like you sometimes get in fried rice). This dish WAS very fatty, though, so be careful if that’s not your thing. The seaweed salad also was very good. We’ll be back!

I was a loyal diner at jimmy oros, but sadly they closed down… I’ve been at the golden star years ago before they renovated and the food was ok, the other day while in the area i was in the mood for Chinese food and decide to go in and give it a try. My daughter and son were the only costumes but half way waiting for our food about five other customers dined in also. I ordered the shrimp and broccoli with shrimp fried rice and my daughter had sesame chicken with pork fried rice. The food was great and so was the service and the portions are huge, I only gave it four stars because it was way to quiet like literally no one was talking and I felt like my daughter and i had to whisper to each other, and the place is very dim, besides that I would go again!

I have to say it’s a good Chinese spot that has always been in the neighborhood. I been here a few times and every time the food it’s always good. The last time I went I ate the general Tso chicken with house special fried rice and a spring roll. The food was cooked with finesse. Me and my friends shared all our food. I tasted the fried chicken fingers with garlic sauce and the boneless spare ribs. I recommend this place to anybody that lives or its visiting the heights.

I happen to discover this place, When my brother treated me here. Normally I use to eat at a place similar to this on 96st on Broadway, called Victoria. I like the fact when u dine in they give us fried crispy noodles with duck sauce on the side as a dipping sauce… I rated it 3 starts because when I ask them to make a dish spicy… They either forgot or cared not to alter it… Secondly the bathroom is never clean, and is very small… Other than this, I am satisfied thus this far.

Not that we need another Chinese restaurant in Washington Heights, but I have to say that I’m glad this place has arrived. A little classier/nicer than Jade Garden, which is my normal go to Chinese place. The menu has some interesting items, and based on previous reviews I saw beef and broccoli lo mein. That peaked my interested, so I ended up ordering it and GOODDECISION. If you want some delicious greasy Chinese food, this is the dish for you. Now they just need to make chicken and broccoli lo mein lol whoever complained that the broccoli was super mushy, must have been on a bad day because mine was perfectly cooked. The portions are huge. I got the smallest size and it has lasted me three days. Love it! I ordered a basic sushi roll too. I am always looking for edible sushi in our neighborhood. It was just okay. Probably on quality with Sushi Yu 2, but the delivery sushi is a little more edible for your basic rolls compared to the one my roomie got once from SY2 that was a poisonous tuna. Overall, I like it this place and will be trying more things out.

Really good food. This may be my new go-to spot for Chinese food. The lunch specials are competitive, the food is fresh and not overcooked, and the fried rice is on point! I highly recommend the beef with Chinese eggplant and the tofu and vegetable soup. I’m really excited to try a few different entrees. I noticed that their selection is larger for lunch specials. I haven’t seen beef/chicken/pork with eggplant in other surrounding Chinese restaurants(for lunch specials), nor have I seen double sauteed pork. I think this is a great thing, especially if you’re tired of ordering the same 10 entrees to save a few bucks before 4pm. Definitely give these guys a shot, I predict you won’t be disappointed.

Food tastes good, serve large portions so that’s something positive but the service is quite slow. I asked for a soda twice, and still hasn’t arrived and I really can’t understand the employees(waiter) heavy accent.

When I walked in, it looked nice, like something a little more refreshing juxtaposed to the rest of Washington Heights… As you sit, they offer you crispy wonton strips to dip in sweet and spicy sauce. Our server seemed nice at first but the tone changed once my friend thought that the sushi special extended until dinner. After my friend retracted one of the moderately priced sushi rolls from the order due to the absence of the special, our server seemed irritated… Spicy Tuna Roll — very average quality tuna, slightly warmer than usual for sushi Singaporean Mei Fun — Rice noodles with a nice splash of curry seasoning and sparsely tossed with some vegetables, though there were some chunks of seasoning found in our dish, which made some bites very salty. General Tso’s Chicken — hot and steaming! The batter around the chicken was still crispy and hot. The sauce was good. Things seemed great until we bit into some baby corn that tasted… sour/spoiled…I thought my friend was just kidding at first and was not used to eating baby corn, but after I tasted it… I immediately spit it out and did not touch another piece of baby corn. Shame too because I love the texture of baby corn and it was one of only a few vegetables in that dish. I would like to think that this place has some potential but there are some things that our dinner party just could not get over! I hate giving below three stares, but our experience was tarnished by some careless mistakes.

Decent restaurant. Pretty good food. When I passed by the restaurant, and saw their exterior, I hesitated a tad bit on whether or not I should give it a try. But I was craving for some Chinese food, so I thought, eh, how bad can it be? And to my astonishment, it wasn’t bad at all! The restaurant seemed pretty clean, the bathroom was clean, the prices were reasonable, and the food was pretty good! I had some curry rice noodles(I don’t quite remember the name of the order) but ITWASSOFLAVORFUL! I can smell the curry the second they served it to me! I also had their sesame chicken… it was so good. Not soggy, not too sweet, not too salty. Everything was just right. They had a sushi bar in the restaurant as well, which I thought was pretty cool; but I was way too full for sushi. But that’s ok! Because I’m sure I’d be eating there again.
