I love the vibes and I love the coffee too! The place is relaxed and I enjoyed the cashier’s lax personality as well.

The location is great and I like how they serve the tea. However, for a place that’s supposed to be a work zone, they sure play the most aggressive music ever. There are ALWAYS people in here working. If they don’t want that, they absolve the seating. Otherwise, it would be nice if they played music that’s more friendly to concentration, at least in the morning. It’s just always so loud and my earphones don’t block it out. Pretty friendly staff and good seating… although no almond milk :(

Gorilla Coffee is probably a more suitable setting to hang out with friends than to get work done. I gave it a 2 because I wanted to do some work and it wasn’t what I thought it’d be. Went on a Friday about 2 hours before close to do some work while waiting for a friend. Not sure if workers were desperate to leave but they spoke very loud and their conversation topics were a bit obnoxious at times. The music was also a bit too loud for working, which by the way… they were playing some sort of funkadelic jazz that resembled a window washer trying to do his job drunk. I prefer it if they just didn’t play any music. The place itself had a red theme. All outlets are covered so people can’t stay long. There was a corner selling branded merchandise. It was late so I tried the latte so I may sit and work, and it wasn’t bad.

Good coffee. Missing one star because I bought coffee beans and the girl behind the counter never offered me my complimentary cup. She acted surprised when I asked for it. She gave me an Americana in a small cup with no lid. Kind of ghetto IMO. This ain’t 7 – 11 coffee – it Brooklyn’s famous gorilla coffee. Hipster barista with unflattering hat should have known better. Coffee is stellar though.

In most quality coffee shops around NYC The idea is to adapt to the real world of coffee… Not the Starbucks ! Not the Dunkin doughnuts ! Unfortunately Gorilla café serve a TERRIBLE single espresso with the excuse that they pour double shots and make it BIGGER(as most of the Americans like, sadly) Again, most quality cafes(Joe’s, blue bottle, Abraco) are in strides with the real quality coffee world. Gorilla café is Not!

Excellent coffee renowned for its deep flavors. A little bit pricy, but absolutely worth it. Happy they have a second location in the area. Great to grab a coffee or show up with your laptop and enjoy the music.

I’m not much of a coffee guru, the cold brew got me sorta hype. Saw some important people meeting and what-not. If I’m by Barclay’s again maybe I’ll try some hot coffee. The guy was awkward but super nice just like me… haha.

«I’m gonna need you to get out!» Said the barista to me after 3 minutes sitting at the coffee bar. I would have purchased something if you gave me a welcome into your store. Poor customer service and demanding you buy a product is no way to run a business. Learn from your competitors or go out of business.

An experience that could be better. Gorilla Cofffee is a great brand, as in their branding is awesome. Unfortunately, depending on which Barista you get, will depend on the experience you have. In the coffee world, baristas can make or break a shop. When turnover is high you tend to have less skilled baristas in place, and this makes for building a solid shop very difficult. Even though this shop is a little smaller then the other(only a couple blocks away) it feels much more welcoming in general. You get the greeting, the music is not too hipster off the wall cool, the shop is more of a modern look with a ModBar, which I’ve never seen used but assume it does sometime, and what looks to be more options for retail as well. Service-Wise is where Gorilla Coffee seems to miss the mark. I have been in this specific shop multiple times and have only had a handful of positive experiences. The Baristas are friendly enough but seem aloof and unresponsive beyond their initial greeting. They also seem to lack skill in their pulls and craft. As a coffee proffessional, I am always mentally notating a baristas skill level. This includes information about the coffee that I am procuring. Without fail, I ask about the beans and not a single barista has had the ability to tell me about them without going to the bag and reading verbatim what is on there. This may be splitting hairs, but if you are a true coffee shop you should have knowledgable staff members who are able to cater to a demanding clientele. As to the coffee itself, this again is hit or miss, also dependent on who your barista is. I’ve had times where I’ve thrown out my latte due to scorched and burnt milk, or completely over-aerated latte that looks like a bodega made it. But I’ve also had some espresso that is chocolaty and creamy with complex flavor notes to make your mouth water. Overall, I can recommend this place, but be prepared to be disappointed all the same. You never know what kind of coffee you will get, hopefully yours is the complex one.

Excellent tea, good music, solid service, nice atmosphere. A bit pricey, but quality. 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5 since Unilocal doesn’t allow half-stars.

FOREVERMYFAVORITECOFFEEBRANDANDSHOP. I am such a fan of this place that I refuse to go anywhere else now for my cold brew, and the regular selection of espresso drinks always exceed my expectations. I love the staff, they’re always very kind and seem like laid back, chill people. I’m moving out of NY soon and I am heartbroken to be leaving my lovely Gorilla Coffee behind.

The coffee is great with my favorite animal so the combination just my type of place. Then you add the small intimate seating with the décor i was happy, would have wanted to have stayed if they had seating which was unavailable at the time i came in. But had to take it to go anyways. Would happily go back

Get ready for an all nighter. Every coffee spot has it own«feel.» This one screams«im staying awake and im gonna paint a mural.» Dont be mislead by the name – they do have tea just make sure you look at 3 different spots for the menu: 1) on the wall closest to the door 2) in front of the register 3) to the right of the register. Strain your eyes if you must to read the menu. I got a guatamalen coffee(i couldnt spell out the real name of it to save my life). It was considered a slow pour coffee so expect to wait for it. Be patient because it is self explanatory: its slow. But you wont be after you drink it. The people there will know my name because i plan on sneaking an IV line into their place and pouring their coffee straight into my veins.

Eh! It was okay! I wouldn’t run back to this place. I just want a good cup of coffee and I feel like maybe this place is just doing the most. It took the guy like 15 minutes to make a cup of drip coffee. UGH!

Marvelous coffee in modern rough minimalist settings. Note brew bar and custom espresso machine(they sometimes hold classes here). More fancy than its parent around and down a block, Gorilla at Bergen street does not serve filter after 11. Get an americano instead, or, even better, single origin beans brewed to order.

This Gorilla is a much better location than the one on 5th Ave. Great great space, comfy and roomy and very chic. Of course they have great single origin coffees here and please if you come here, get the pour over. They prepare it with great care which makes the coffee taste amazing. The presentation is also exceptional. on a wood tray with one coffee cup, one short glass and a spoon in the middle. Very helpful if you want to do a personal cupping of your brew. On the bar you will sometimes see shot glasses filled with coffee. It’s a tasting of the barista’s choice of whatever they have that day so you can try it! The barista’s are really nice and really friendly, unlike many«hipster» specialty coffee places in Brooklyn. If you buy a bag of coffee you get a free cup of coffee with it too.

Looks like I forgot to review Gorilla. Great place on a wonderful block. The renovated space looks great, with painted brick walls and modern lighting. It’s Gorilla Coffee, so you know it’s good stuff. And the folks who work here couldn’t be nicer!

I’m pretty shocked at the general negativity(and paucity, considering it’s been open for at least six months) of the reviews here. True, the staff can be a bit inattentive depending on who is working, but most of them are nice. They work pretty slow, but I think a lot of it has to do with the effort they put into making their drinks. One time, when I ordered a iced coffee«out of season»(i.e. not summer when they have it ready-made) the barista cheerfully spent seven or eight minutes doing an iced pourover for me, weighing beans, grinding them, etc etc.(It recalled a certain Louis CK standup bit I cannot repeat.) I have not noticed any sort of fly or air circulation problem(even on the hottest days of this summer), and the bathroom is perfectly clean. More importantly, the coffee is outstanding, especially the iced. The baked goods are excellent too.(Helps to have Doughnut Plant of course — but who knows how long that will last, with DP opening up 100 feet away this fall? City doughnut vendors, pay attention to a possible new account.) One of my top coffee choices in the area.

Wow, Unilocalers haven’t been shy about dishing out some haterade. I’ve been to this new location a few times now and I don’t think it’s as bad as some of the reviews have made it out to be. I’ve always had friendly, prompt service, even when there’s been a long line out the door. I like the coffee here — it’s strong and aromatic, and there’s a soy dispenser(all characteristics that Prospect Perk lacks). The main reason I come here is for the cakey Donut Planet donuts– staple flavors include the PB&J, blackout, tres leches and coconut lime. Yum. All that being said, there are definitely some issues with this location– the foremost being the very apparent fly issue. Gorilla could easily address this by just closing its front door. They’re fortunately smart enough to keep the food behind a glass door. Nevertheless, it’s still pretty annoying and disgusting having to deal with the not insignificant number of flies buzzing around. The front part of the shop is also really hot– again, because of the always open front door. There is A/C, but it only seems to circulate around the back of the shop. Finally, it seems like there might be some issues getting coffee and food after a certain hour here– I’ve only been here before 10AM, so I can’t speak firsthand. But if it’s true that they don’t brew after 11, then that is definitely also an issue they should fix asap.

These guys have really really stepped up their game. Primo coffee on offer. I’m drinking the IXIL A’ACHIMBALGUATEMALA single origin espresso right now which is a bourbon typica varietal. The label says it is floral, tangerine & buttery & while I’m not sure my palate is quite that advanced, it sure makes me feel good to drink it! For me the biggest thing about taste is prep & they do it carefully here. New shop has only been open a couple months. I asked about the cold brew cartons but they are all out at the moment. I will definitely have an excuse now To check back often!
