Loved this place. It was the only place open at 5am when i came to NY for a business trip. LOVED it! And the espresso was bomb!

If you don’t mind paying a little extra for good coffee, this is definitely a place to try out. The coffee has a little extra kick to get you through the day.

Listen, If you are as tired of New York/Brooklyn barista BS(either Hipster coffee shop staff who talk to you like they are doing you the biggest favor in the world by ALLOWING you to spend your money at their establishment, or Starbucks staff that look like they are about to pass out from boredom) you should stop in to this Gregory’s location. There is a manager there who is pretty much making sure everyone is happy and all is going smoothly. He greeted me at the register, asked me if I had any questions about the menu and grabbed me a cold brew that was actually quite good(low acidity, smooth). I was doing dome work on my laptop and he was in my line of sight, so I watched him interact with the staff. They all seemed to genuinely get along, which is awesome in my opinion. He was also working his ass off, taking out the garbage and unloading a palate of coffee. I asked him his name(Steve) and told him I was writing a Unilocal review. His response was a mixture of gratitude and a humble understanding of why I would be so inclined. You never know about the true inner workings of a business, but by my estimation this place is doing right(corporate or otherwise.

Amazing chai latte! It’s also a gem for people who want to work on their laptops or do some reading in a sit down café in the midst of crazy NYC. Their croissant was delicious as well!

This is another Gregories its less busy and a little darker then the one on 44th street, less crowded. And this is where they bake all their goodies, you can even see bakers pulling my favorite carrot cakes out of the oven.

Typical trendy spot. Bottom line, good coffee. Not a ton of seating and only one small, unisex bathroom.

My favorite coffee chain in the city. Have been to a lot of their locations. Always clean. Nice atmosphere for a coffee shop though I rarely hang around after picking up my order and usually take it to go. I often get an iced latte, sometimes a green tea olé. Both are made consistently good. The food/baked goods that they have are very good but I do wish they had some more healthy options to eat.

Solid midtown coffee spot with a worthwhile rewards program. If you pay with their app you get $ 5 for every $ 50 you spend. Plus on random days when it’s rainy or cold, they’ll just send you free coffees! I’m personally most partial to their cold brew, which is a bit sour with chocolatey notes. They also have a really nice selection of pastries. I’d recommend the rice Chex treat!

For those great reviews, all I need to ask is why? and how? I came here during lunch time and there was a short line in front me. I felt grateful. Why? Cuz all those bakeries on the counter were staring at me and asked me to take them and leave. I knew! I knew. Finally, I did. I picked Cinnamon explode. I was like, YAH, EXPLODE. And my heart explode when I got my first bite. It was horrible. It was dry, and tasted like chocolate. And the amount of chocolate inside is like minimum. AREYOUREALLYSERIOUSLYKIDDINGME? I am hugely disappointed and basically I won’t come back. I mean, maybe the timing is not right but don’t they know that bakeries are tasting s*t if they are not properly reserved? Ugh Ugh UGH

I came here bc of the high reviews that it received. It was my first time in this place and I was not sure what I wanted. As the employee asked me what I wanted, I quickly asked for a Chai Latte with 3 shots of espresso(Which she charged me for, but didn’t write on the cup to put in the drink nor did I taste any espresso in there), then asked her what muffins she had. She was annoyed and said two options. I choose the Pumpkin Spice Muffin which was very good. As She quickly wrapped up my muffin she gave me my total to finish my order… I still had my two children to order for. I then asked her what she suggested for a child and that he wanted some art on the foam. I was hoping she could give me a good suggestion, but she just said a latte. I was confused but bc she scolded me for going so slow, I quickly accepted her suggestion and continued with my order. The latte was super bitter so I went back to order a chocolate milk for my son and she ended up putting that I wanted a hot chocolate… I was done at this point and just told my son to wait until it cooled off. The woman that scolded me/yelled at me didn’t change her tone with me until she saw that I had my phone on Unilocal. She made sure to say goodbye to me as we left. Although she was nice as we left, I don’t think it was ok for her to scold me for not knowing what I wanted and asking for a suggestion. In NYC you are going to get many people that have never been to your place and don’t know what you have to offer, just deal with it and don’t be rude about it. Bc of the terrible service and the 2 continued drink mix ups I will not return to this chain when we go back to the city.

With a name like Gregory how could this place not be anything less than outstanding! Excellent coffee experience! Quality and service! I must admit, I am a little jealous that that Gregory owns this local coffee house and not this Gregory. :-)

I came here with friends in search of someone who could do latte art and I found Ian! He was so nice and helpful — he truly made our experience at Gregory’s a great one. The service was fast and our lattes were tasty. The store was clean and there were plenty of seats available. That’s really all I can ask for(especially on a weekend afternoon). Thanks again Ian! We really appreciated the effort you put into our drinks — hope to be back soon!

After a significant amount of turnover in staff, the popularity of the Gregory’s franchise has not waned. Finding a seat is hard especially around the 3pm rush. While there is some room for improvement when it comes to new staff learning about art of coffee making(and charging the right prices), Gregory’s continues to be a well-oiled machine and gets you in and out in a timely manner. They work hard. The quality of the coffee was a bit inconsistent for a period of time, but it has since improved to this customer’s delight. After checking in here more than 1,000 times, I can say Gregory’s continues to excel in a variety of areas(i.e. — pastries, coffee, cleanliness). The new manager, Steve, is very diligent and a pleasure deal with. Now, if only they would add an almond croissant to their pastry selection.

I’ve been a regular Gregory’s customer ‘Gregular’ for a year now. I was so in love with this café, therefore I’m heartbroken to give it a 2-star rating today. I visit 2 – 3 times a day, rain or shine, because I work long hours at office nearby. House coffee in AM and Mocha in PM. That’s at least $ 6 a day, 5 days a week, let’s say I work 50 weeks a year. I’ve spent over $ 1,500 at Gregory. One year ago, Gregory’s review would’ve been 5-star. So what happened? About a month ago, the quality of lattes have been going down. Sometimes the coffee bean was bad, milk was expired once, and the staff lacked the skill to craft a decent latte. The biggest problem at Gregory is the poorly trained staff. I’d order a cortado for my colleague who only drinks cortado(espresso cut with small amount of milk), an americano for another colleague, and a mocha for myself. The cashier always mishear cortado as cappuccino — well, she didn’t mishear, actually, she didn’t know what is a cortado. It is right on the menu, you’d think staff learns the menu before they start working. Gregory’s offers drinks in a mini cup(for espresso shots). I’d order an americano/mocha in a mini because it tasted better in that serving. This option really differentiated Gregory’s from other coffee shops and kept me coming back. The staff now often mishear(or doesn’t know) ‘mini’ as ‘medium’. They’d charge me incorrectly and make the drinks in wrong size. Anyone who cares about taste of coffee knows — more is NOT always better. It’s frustrating for customer, who has to wait longer, and employee who has to remake the drink. Unpleasant all around. A small(12oz) mocha is $ 4.13 but a mini mocha should be less, $ 2.98. Small americano is $ 2.76, however, when I order a mini they consistently charge me more, $ 4. When I ask the cashier how is it priced, I was told to ‘please keep moving, we have a long here.‘ Overcharging me for coffee everyday, getting my order wrong majority of visits, and little desire from manager/staff to help customer. After several weeks of nonsense, I think I’m ready to call it quits. I really miss baristas John and Matt — they crafted the best lattes, sadly, no longer with Gregory’s for many months now.

Hipster? Eh, kind of. I mean the logo does have a pair of thick black-rimmed glasses. They’re not actually black, but it’s a safe assumption. I do like the logo though. Very cute. My friend pointed this place out to me my first week in the New York office. There’s a starbucks in our building, but she says the local coffee shops around the area are much better. Gregory’s isn’t exactly«local» anymore, it’s a chain now, but I think only within the NYC area. Anyway, the place is really nice and cozy. There’s plenty of seating in the back and the line goes out the door during 8:30−9 am rush. Service is always on par. Even with a long line, the wait is never too long. It goes by rather quickly. I usually like getting their iced coffee. It’s definitely strong, but I like that powerful taste. They do offer soy milk as an option, which is great for a lactose intolerant like me. I’ve had their latte as well. It’s definitely different. Not sweet at all, but not bad though. You still get the creaminess from the milk though. I got a mocha here as well and I like that too. As for food, I’ve only had their chocolate croissants and their glazed donuts. Chocolate croissants are okay, pretty standard, nothing too amazing or out of the ordinary. The glazed donut though was really good. It was so fluffy and moist and warm. You can totally taste the carbs and the fat, but it’s so good, who cares? FREEBIEALERT: Gregory’s sometimes has whole wheat munchkins sitting at a table for anyone to take. They are heavenly. You like Dunkin Donuts munchkins? Well, these munchkins will leave you saying, «Dunkin Donuts who?» They’re so fluffy and moist, you’d think you’re eating cake and not a donut. This place has grown to be one of my favorite coffee places in NY. I’m proud to say I’m a loyal Gregory’s customer and I’ve tossed my Starbucks gold card to the side!
