A small exhibit free for NYU, located on the west side entrance of the Silver Building. Usually pretty stagnant of their artworks but we’ll put together. Only thing is it’s so small so it’s not really something to go out of your way to go to.

Walk past nearly daily and finally stopped in as part of one of those team-building exercises you read about, and enjoyed the Tseng Kwong Chi: Performing for the Camera exhibit.

Continuing my tour of lesser known art exhibition spaces in New York, we turn to the Grey Art Gallery… Immediately across from Washington Square Park on its Eastern boundary, this gallery is almost hidden among the oddly industrial/loft-looking buildings that make up much of the NYU campus. They do so many fine shows, I really have to get over here more often. Last time I was there(back in spring ’06) I saw a show on the work of Los Angeles-based painter Lee Mullican. I recently missed what looked like an excellent show on Richard Diebenkorn(#@!&%*!!!). They’ve been focusing on 20th century painting lately. Look at all the great shows they’ve done in the past: Visit the Gallery, have ice cream in the park and say to yourself: «Oh man, this is what New York is for.»

Free for NYU community, and somewhat free(they have a «suggested» donation/admission) to everyone else, if you’re around washington square park I suggest taking a look here. It’s half an hour out of your day and you get to see all sorts of modern art here from a panoply of countries as well as NYU student art, depending on the exhibition. It changes quite frequently so there’s always something new. It’s located at the bottom of the Silver Center, NYU’s main educational building, on the east side of the park. I remember seeing a few Mexican collections here a couple years back and while small they were fantastic and totally worth it. check out the site for updates.
