Hair by Bobby

Booking with Bobby was easy and his schedule is very convenient/​flexible for my crazy work schedule.
The space is small but cozy, clean and has a Bobby flare to it.
I was welcomed with a tea and chocolate covered gingerbread cookie. During my consult, I was so tired after a long day that I wasn’t very clear with how I wanted my color to be done. I basically had some blonde highlights hand painted/​dark brown roots growing out. The contrast was becoming too noticeable and my blonde looked brassy. However, the resulting look was fabulous, harmonious and exactly what I wanted. He’s obviously a mind reader.
I love that he tries to use organic and/​or
least harmful methods of coloring hair. Plus, I believe I was the first client to get my hair washed with the pure alkaline water installed that day.
I would definitely go again! My hair looks and feels great.

The short of it — Bobby’s amazing and you needn’t go anywhere else to get your hair done.
I’ve had the same hairstylist since I was 9 (yes, I needed one at 9. Relaxers have been my savior) Anywho, my stylist hasn’t been available for the past month and my hair was SCREAMING for help. I scoured Lifebooker for salons, my options were either insanely expensive or cheap with 2 star Unilocal reviews and then there was Bobby: reasonably priced and glowing reviews.
Too good to be true? Nope. Got a great haircut and my hair is nice and straight and manageable. (FINALLY!) And as the previous reviewer noted, Bobby is just the funnest person.
I’ll definitely be back.

Bobby’s great.
First of all, he’s transparent about the products he uses, and because he’s a one-​man business instead of a salon, he’s honest, and doesn’t push products on his customers. I used to go to an «organic» salon on the Upper East Side, and frankly, my hair was in much worse shape after those highlights than it’s ever been after Bobby’s. In fact, so far, Bobby’s color/​highlights have been leaving my hair feeling refreshed — which is pretty rare, speaking from 5 – 6 years of highlighting experience.
Second, his cuts are great. He takes time to listen for what you want (I brought in celebrity/​magazine pictures on my phone). He also involves you in the process, unlike other stylists who go silent after you put in your request and end up creating something totally different than you wanted. Bobby will communicate throughout the cut and ask specifics, like what you want at the front, whether he’s going short/​long enough, etc.
And finally, Bobby’s just fun. Going to see him is like hanging out with a hilarious, cool/​hip friend for a few hours. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable experience, the results are great, and the price won’t break the bank.

I have known Bobby for over 2 years now & he is just a great genuine person who really knows how to make hair look its best! My strands would not be what they are today without Bobby! He is the best of the best! It is his caring nature and attention to detail that allow me to trust my locks with him completely! And when I want a trim he really does chop just exactly what I want — which is not very much and I appreciate that so much! He really does listen attentively to what you want & will have a full discussion with you so that you are both on the same page which is soooo important! Thanks for all of your help Bobby!

I chose Bobby based on the all 5 star Unilocal reviews, but I had a different experience than other reviewers. I went in wanting to cut a significant amount hair and was looking for some input from Bobby about what would best flatter my face. He showed no desire to have a discussion about styling, just asked how much we were cutting and went to work. As he was was cutting I said all I care about is that it is not too big.
I understand he likes to cut hair when it is dry, but the cut was supposed to include styling and just blow drying is not an acceptable style for my curly hair. When I left the studio, my hair was a giant triangle. Bobby said he the cut was meant for curly styling, not straight as it was when I left the studio, but it is still a triangle when styled curly. I will definitely not go back.

Bobby has been cutting my hair (and my husband’s) for years now.
When I moved to NY I left my hair stylist of over a decade and it was tough to find someone that I could trust… until I found Bobby.
He listens to what I want, makes suggestions as needed and always leaves me feeling great. And the cut always grows out great.

Bobby is the ONLY stylist I TRUST to color my hair. He is an expert at creating beautifully natural color with the look of a youthful sheen. Even when my color begins to grow out, there is never any harsh line of colored to natural hair. My hair has never looked better!
PS I love that he uses organic products!

I’ve been taking my son to get his hair cut by Bobby for 2 years now and would never go anywhere else. His first haircut was at one of those places where they made him sit in a car and watch a DVD. That was the WORST… none of it worked for us! Bobby is the best. He has a lot of patience and does exactly what I want. My son’s hair always looks great and is never too short. My son is very active and can’t sit still for long. Bobby does a great job in a short amount of time on my squirmy boy. I’m always impressed. We like his hair very stylish and to have some length. Thanks Bobby, we think your the best!

Bobby is the best!
I’ve been seeing Bobby since 2001. His color is vibrant and fun (and organic! No itchy scalps or nasty fumes) and his cuts even better, they grow out beautifully. I have very fine, very straight hair and never thought my hair could look so good! Plus he’s great fun to hang out with.
I moved to California in 2008 and miss him terribly. Any chance I get I’m in his salon chair… whichever salon it might be ;) He’ll be coming out this May to do my hair for my wedding, that’s how talented this man is!
He’s reasonably priced, super fantastic, and does the best hair in NYC. What else do you need? Oh, and you can book your appt. online–
