We stopped by Haru after a long day walking around the city, and we were lucky to snag a small table outside on a Saturday evening. Service was impressively fast, and the sushi was light, fresh, and well priced — no complaints, and excellent people watching. I particularly enjoyed the jalapeño salmon roll since I’ve never had that pepper in a roll before.

his was a return trip for us for pre-theater dining. We were glad to see the service and food was as anticipated. We ordered halibut dinners which were outstanding. Our waiter was attentive and despite the construction and hordes of people in the area, we were able to have a leisurely dinner and get to our theater on plenty of time. Would stop here again and recommend to others.

I used to be a fan of Haru Sushi. Dependable Japanese food, substantial portions, miso soup or salad included in meal. I went back this week – much skimpier portions, and soup or salad now extra. If the sushi was outstanding, maybe I could let their cutting corners everywhere pass. But it’s not. Time to find another neighborhood Japanese restaurant. Sayonara, Haru.

Average in my opinion. My friend and I came here for dinner tonight and the food was decent but nothing spectacular. I ordered the lemongrass hot and sour soup with shrimp, scallops and noodles. It was a little spicy, which I like, but not that flavorful. Also ordered the samurai combo…3 rolls of spicy tuna, yellowtail jalepeno, and crunchy spicy salmon. The rolls were ok, but nothing spectacular. Prices were slightly high to average. The service was very good. So overall an average place with average sushi. I would give 3.5 stars if I could!

I have never been treated with such disrespect in a restaurant before in my life. Last night, 4÷9÷16, three friends and I went to Haru on Amsterdam around 9:30p to enjoy a nice sushi dinner. As I had been to this location multiple times before, I recommended it to my friends. We were seated immediately with food and drink menus. When the waiter brought over the wipes for our hands, he removed the drink menus from the table. I didn’t think anything of it, as we were hungry and eager to decide on our dinner choices. After waiting well over fifteen minutes for any attention, the waiter came to ask if we were ready to order. I said«Yes. Could we please split a bottle of the prosecco?» To which he responded, «No, you are too young. No alcohol.» Without checking IDs, or asking our ages. I replied that I am 24 years old and that we all had valid IDs on us. Reluctantly, he took our IDs. He began with the NYID of a friend of mine who is 23 years old. Scratching it and trying to remove her name from her valid ID. He proceeded to throw her ID back on the table and respond, «The NYID is fine, but I will have to show the others to my manager.» I said, «Please do.» A few minutes later, he came back with our IDs and said we would not be able to be served. I asked to speak with the manager. When the manager arrived at the table, he completely played dumb and asked what he could help with in a sarcastic and condescending tone. I asked him, «What seems to be the problem with our IDs?» He responded that because of NY regulations he cannot serve underage people and thus, would not accept any out of state IDs at the restaurant. I would like to note that we were seated right next to a party of six, clearly visiting from out of the country and that I, with my valid Utah ID have been served at this location on multiple occasions. My friends and I were profiled from the moment we walked into the bar and the waiter decided from the get go that we would not be served alcohol, despite the fact we all had valid IDs WITH back up. Immediately after our conversation with the manager, we left the restaurant without ordering anything. Not only will I never return to this restaurant, or any of its locations, I am completely humiliated and rightfully upset at the absurd and poor treatment I received as a legal, paying customer of the establishment. I expect to be fully compensated for my experience and I am open to being contacted regarding my experience. It is ridiculous to expect every diner to carry a NYID in one of the biggest tourist cities in the world. These words do no begin to express my disappointment, embarrassment and complete astonishment at the lack of customer service I was faced with. I will never be returning to Haru, and will most certainly continue to share this story as often as I possibly can.

Impeccable on every level: food, service and ambiance. Sushi amazing but hot entrees amazing too… The dumplings… the apps. And great wine selection. If you want a quality sushi place on the upper Westside look no further. Oh… My fave? The kamikaze roll. To die for? Well considering the name that makes sense.

Came to Haru with a girlfriend of mine for a Saturday lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The décor and ambiance were quite relaxing; I’d love to see how it looks at night. To start I ordered the cauliflower tempura with chili lime sauce, which was absolutely delicious. The sauce had a nice balance of spicy and tangy, which took the cauliflower to another level. The tempura itself was well done, not at all soggy. I also had two regular rolls: yellowtail scallion & eel avocado, both of which were perfect. Each had the right ratio of rice to fish, and the yellowtail in particular was perfectly fresh. To drink, we both had a glass of the lychee sake and a glass of plum wine, both of which were perfect complements to the sushi rolls. I plan to head back very soon for the lychee sake in particular, it was amazing!

Great happy hour for sushi!!! Always have the best quality sushi! Not a fan of the ginger salad. Great for nice dinner or quick bite.

Gary has above average quality sushi. The service is fair. There is something generic about it. Perhaps because they’re are several of them. No wow factor. Tables are far too close together. Pretty noisy. Not romantic.

Great sushi for a moderate price. The Gramercy Park is like their signature roll and it’s quite good. The Park Avenue is also good but a little too similar to the Gramercy. Mackerel nigiri was less melty and smooth than I’m accustomed to. Eel Avocado nigiri is among the better I’ve tried; both eel and avocado having a super smooth texture and equally tasty in the mouth. Their pickled ginger, soy and wasabi are of nice quality which is important to me when I’m eating sushi. I’m among that segment of folks who aren’t fans of dark, noisy restaurants and Haru Sushi is one of those. I like well-lit establishments with a peaceful or cool vibe. This does not meet that standard. Would I choose a larger open space over moderate pricing though? Absolutely not.

So, I been to this place like about 7 times loved it there!!! So I went recently and this is the reason why I’m giving it 3 stars because it 1-wasn’t packed and it they took for ever to give us the menu when they usually have great costumer service 2– I asked for a kani that they used to have in the menu they discontinued it cmon kani salad REALLY! okay fine then 3-I asked for an order of shumai also discontinued so it was a bit upsetting. Usually I’m really impressed with my sushi last night I wasn’t! Maybe it was just not a good day! Overall the prices was good as usual we had two specialty rolls 3 regular rolls and 2 lychee sake for $ 77.00!!!

Ive been going to Haru for 15 years now and the quality of the food is always consistent. The sushi taco appetizer is very similar to what you get at NOBU but not at a completely ridiculous price. The fish is always fresh and my delivery’s are always on time. My reason for 4 stars is because I have food allergies and there have been multiple occasions where I tell the servers what I’m allergic to and I still end up getting an allergic reaction. Nonetheless I am almost always pleased and recommend Haru to anyone the UWS looking for good americanized Japanese food.

I was a little disappointed by Haru. My partner and I ordered a pickup, and while it was quick, they sushi really lacked substance. Salmon avocado were tiny pieces, and my girlfriend asked to add carrot to her avocado and cucumber and we expected the extra charge, however we didn’t expect the pittance of carrot put in the roll. It looked like a few measly shavings. The edamame was nice, but that’s hard to get wrong. The location is great and the restaurant looks nice itself with open windows and outdoor seating it does look very appealing.

We ordered the popcorn shrimp which was yummy! The perfect fantasy roll was good, especially because it has avocado which I love. Side of brown rice is always a must!

Service: Good Drinks: Good Rolls: Very good We got the Plum Sake and Lychee Sake as well as the Dragon Roll. The sake was good and flavorful. The rolls were fresh. My only complaint, if I was being picky, is it took about 25 min for our rolls. But if quality takes time then I’m all for it.

We had the hot and sour soup, duck spring rolls, king crab dumplings, crispy halibut, and the spicy sirloin. Hot and sour: Really hot, lots of stuff inside, well balanced with a ton of flavor. Packs a kick. King crab: Probably the best in the entire meal. Sticky and flavorful. Duck spring roll: Light and crispy, served with a plum sauce. Lacked the full flavor of the duck. Crispy halibut: No need to order this item. It was just a filet of crispy, lightly fried fish. Nothing special. Comes with a heavy mayo-based cole slaw. Spicy sirloin: Great dish, moist, juicy, flavorful. The steak and the mushrooms work great together. The music was cool and the server was very nice. The atmosphere is cool and inviting. Fine for an informal date.

O lugar é bonito, mas os atendentes não são simpáticos e o peixe não pareceu muito fresco. O summer spring roll estava bom. Mas o sushi e sashimi podiam estar melhores.

This was my first time at this location. I usually go to the one on the UES, but this location is pretty cool too. It was packed when we arrived, but somehow a table magically appeared. We had the $ 40 Access special for two people which included an app, two entrees, dessert, and a bottle of wine.(You have to print out the deal on paper, they will not accept it on your phone). Appetizer: We had the King Crab Dumplings. My first bite was a little fishy, but then was tasty with a little help from some soy sauce. Entrees: I had the Gramercy Park Roll. I didn’t know what the heck I was eating, but damn it sure tasted good. So much going on with spicy tuna, jalepenos, yellowtail, and salmon, and roe. It was a good mix of flavors. My friend had the Sumo which was Spicy Tuna, eel cucumber, and Salmon avocado rolls. Definitely a lot of sushi, very fresh. My friend was happy and it comes on a large round blue disc that reminds me of a frisbee. Dessert: We had banana spring rolls with chocolate dipping sauce. This dish came with a spoon, but it would have been easier to dip the rolls into the chocolate with chopsticks for sure. My friend liked the spring rolls sans chocolate, but I thought it was yummylicious either way. Wine: we had a bottle of the Noble Vines 337 Cabernet Sauvignon. They were out of the sake and I am glad we had the red wine. The table next to us could smell our wine and were in awe of the aroma. I would drink it again in a heartbeat even though red wines are normally a little heavy for sushi. Sip slowly people ;p Our bill came and it was $ 43 with tax. $ 60ish after tip. It would have been over $ 100 without the deal so we both walked away happy(and a little tipsy).

I stopped by Haru Sushi on a Saturday evening after everything else I tried to go to had a wait. I had about an hour to eat before I had to be somewhere else in the city. Enter Haru Sushi. With no wait at all, we sidled up to the sushi bar and ordered away. We started with the lobster shumai/dumpling. I thought the spicing in the dumpling was a little weird. I’ve never had anything like it and could have gone without. I got a shrimp tempura roll which was pretty standard. I also ordered salmon, eel, and sea urchin. Unfortunately, they had no sea urchin that night, so I ended up with salmon, eel, and I think tuna. The fish was all fairly decent and I got my fix for a sushi crave. I do have to give props to the sushi chefs/rollers(is that what you call them?) they were extremely expedient and had the food flying off the bar. It wasn’t an earth shattering meal or anything and I felt it was slightly overpriced for what I got but I left fed and happy. SN: While watching the happenings, it appears that they have carry out bike dude.
