This is small but very very nice and reasonable price French restaurant. The staff are great and the food is well prepared, the manager is very caring. You have variety of chooses in the menus. I recommend salmon and steak frites. Keep it up guys.

Ok– have to mention this great neighborhood spot. It’s quaint and intimate and so very good. We see the owner quite often and the staff recognizes us and greets us so well every time we go in. We have eaten here many times and it’s always consistent. Love the salmon and also the mussels is a personal fave. Oh and also the onion soup is perfect and the chicken is very moist and always good. They have a nice wine selection. Honestly they do a great job and understand that consistency w food and friendly service is key. Highly recommend for two or small groups.

What a lovely place for a quiet date! The average age of the patrons at this restaurant is about 50. It’s a mature and quiet little bistro with fantastic service. I liked it so much my first time with the boyfriend that I immediately returned and brought my sister less than a week afterwards. In the winter, you can hang up your coat on the coat rack by the door because the restaurant is not very large and there isn’t much space for your coat at the tables. There are probably around 20 tables in total, with the majority of them being 2-seaters. In total, I think the restaurant can hold probably under 50 people. Whatever else you do, you must get the scallops(Coquilles Saint-Jacques) as an appetizer. Oh my gosh. Save for one other experience, I have never had such delicious scallops. It’s not easy on your wallet, but the order comes with 3 decently sized scallops, each on a slice of beet, drizzled all over with some sort of light milk or cream. The scallops are seared perfectly and have such a satisfying texture. The light greens in the middle complemented the richness of the scallops. The pork loins were tasty, but a bit on the tough side. I mainly ordered the dish because it came with brussels sprouts and I’m a total sucker for brussels sprouts. I was a bit disappointed to find that the brussels sprouts were a bit meager and that they were actually shredded instead of halved, but they were still delicious. The boyfriend’s steak frites were nothing to call home about, but were good. The second time I went, we ordered the scallops again(because, hello). The duck breast dish was absolutely amazing. I asked our server for how the duck breast should be cooked, and he suggested medium-rare to medium. I chose medium. Perfect for me. So tender and savory! The shredded shiitake mushrooms complemented the duck meat perfectly. I was less impressed with the cooked lettuce that was mixed with the shiitake mushrooms. I always found cooked lettuce to be a weird and off-putting. I love raw lettuce. But not cooked. The mussels dish was delicious at first, but then we realized why most restaurants offer mussels as an appetizer and not as a dish. You get sick of mussels really quickly. For the price, I was glad that we got a huge pot of mussels. But halfway through, I just wanted us to be done with the mussels and we just kept finding more mussels in the broth, much to our dismay– which is so unfortunate! I want to be excited about mussels! But it was too much. There’s only so many mussels I can take before I have to quit. We did finish up all the mussels in the end, but I would not suggest ordering the mussels unless you are a serious serious mussels lover or you are splitting it 50⁄50 with someone. Overall, I love Jean Claude and you bet I will be returning for the scallops. At this point, however, I’ve kind of exhausted the entrée list, and I’m not sure what entrée I would order the next time I return. But in summary, great service, lovely ambience, and scallops. Just scallops.

Came here with the girlfriend on a Thursday evening, overall a nice experience. Coquilles Saint-Jacques(5⁄5): This seared scallop and beets dish was the highlight of the night. You get three scallops. The beet & scallop combo wasn’t eyeopening for me, but everything on the plate individually was delicious. — $ 14 Porc A’ La Dijonnanise(3.5÷5): Only had a few bites as this pork loin dish belonged to the gf, but had a very interesting flavor. Very meager amount of brussels sprouts, but they were so good. She would get again. — $ 23 Steak Frites(2⁄5): Given how much of the garlicky-butter sauce they have on top, I was a little disappointed it didn’t taste better. Great portion size, but the steak was cooked just okay. Seemed a bit more done than would have preferred as well. — $ 25 Bread Pudding(4⁄5): Yum, but at this price not an absolute recommend. –$ 8 Experience(4.5÷5): Excellent service throughout, and a very friendly waitstaff. Crowd is very not diverse, and a bit older, giving the entire restaurant a very serious vibe. Good for a date though! — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — How food scoring works(very subjective, and relative to price) 1 — Given the price, no 3 — Worth, taste is on par with 5 — An absolute steal, amazing taste and great value

The legume sandwich is PERFECT with its crispy baguette and creamy goat cheese. The staff was genuinely helpful and enjoyed helping me pick out a red wine for our meal. It’s a cute little place to grab a light lunch or perfect for a quiet date night. Will most definitely be back!

They used to have a nice full place in Soho with different type of clientele very young to elder, different social classes. The new restaurant is a bit different: with average clientele 55yo, more quiet, less ambiance and slow motion mechanic with the staff, same social class . The food: untasty especially the seafood, with a ridiculously 3/plate. The foie gras is ridiculously thin and small. Expensive for what it is. Other French restaurant in Manhattan offer a better quality with more quantity. So this restaurant, does not worth it for one who love French food, real one ! Don’t waste your time there.

— Ambience: 3.5÷5− small quaint neighborhood restaurant — Service: 2⁄5 — food came out at a reasonable time. But the waiter stated that it was completely impossible to split our checks but when pressed by us did it right in front of us in less than 30 secs. He was rude and snobby for doing that. — Food — 2⁄5 — barely edible — tuna tartar — old discolored grayish minced tuna; — Duck breast — meager portion size, bland and underwhelming doused in sauce to compensate for the lack of taste. The accompanying veggies were tastier than the duck — Hanger steak — super small portion, bland, drowned in sauce. In fact the food was so small in portions and so unpleasant that we ended up going to Balthazar for some real tasty French food!

We had been to the downtown location many times and were disappointed to fine out it had closed. We didn’t even know they had one uptown. It had literally been years since we went to Jean Claude but as soon as we walked it the manager remembered us and made some small talk. The food was just as good as we remembered. The preparation was a bit different but still very good. I had the squid appetizer. Make sure you ask for extra bread to soak up all the sauce it was fantastic. We asked the waiter for a wine recommendation based on our meal choices. At dirtiest wasn’t very impressed but once we started eating the wine paired very well with the food and it wasn’t the most expend wine they had. Will definitely go more often now that we know they are so close.

Mid-priced French options are hard to find in the neighborhood, so we find ourselves at Jean Claude 2. The space is a bit tight, but comfortable. It’s a shame our table was under the dripping air conditioner, so we started out on a downer. The restaurant has a neighborhood following, because the food is good and the prices fair. They only serve wine and beer– I like a cocktail before I drown myself in bouillabaisse. Theo had the salmon and it was tasty. Mom had the delicious mussels and we shared a complex mushroom concoction that I liked. Orsay is more expensive, but better.

This small plain restaurant survives on taking advantage of it’s patrons. The portion of foie gras was ridiculously small. The Steak Diane was tough and over cooked. The best part of the meal was the skate. The most outrageous part of the meal was being charged $ 2.00 for a cup of hot water with lemon. The manager righteously stated that he had to pay for the water and the slice of lemon. Ridiculous! Not gracious proprietors.

I am a foodie person, so definitely I love the food from here. The hanger steak is the best. I also love the scallops, and did I mention that the desserts are the best? 100% recommended it. P. s: It is not overprice.

By all means, if you want to treated like a second class citizen, by inattentive, rude, arrogant wait staff, this is the place for you!-(p.s they spoke Spanish not French). The average age for their customers in the restaurant is about 50+ which we have absolutely no problem with– just fyi for readers of this review. The wait staff repeated ignored us, we had to waive them down for water, to order, for drinks, for dessert, for the check– you get the picture– they had no excuse since the place was half filled! The food was okay at best. It’s hit or miss depending on what you order. And again the staff was impatient and didn’t want to explain anything– hopeless! Needless to say we will not be revisiting this place again– there are lots of good restaurants that would welcome our business– so why subject ourselves to this restaurant’s moody service and mediocre food?

Another one of those places that should be better and you want it to be better. But it was not authentically french and ultimately the façade that it was built on just doesn’t match up. The french onion soup — which ought to be the highlight — was just left with too much cheese and an uninspired soup. The bread was certainly good, but even the sandwiches just couldn’t quite match up. A bit dry overall. One thing the table DID agree on: The french fries are delicious. But that can’t make up for a lunch meal that left us wanting more.

Disclaimer: They don’t offer 5% off with Unilocal check in anymore. The owner was generous enough to give us the discount, but keep this in mind since you may not get the discount. I had dinner with some of my relatives and friends. It was a very nice cozy French bistro. I have ordered the french soup and duck breast. French soup wasn’t bad but it was too rich, and also the melted cheese on top really wasn’t integrated into the soup, and also was too hard already. As for the duck breast, the sauce was tasty, but the whole dish was a bit smaller than I thought. Also they took the skin out, which in my opinion gave up the fat layer between the meat and the skin. I liked the ambience of the place. It looks like a local joint where people around there dine once in a while. Owner was very friendly and generous too. If I were around the area I would visit this place from time to time.

Like this place a lot. So this is 5 vs 4 stars. Very nice décor. Tables spaced nicely, not crowded. Excellent service, Good food. Moderate prices. One of the few new places that I have tried recently where I have said — yes I want to come back for more. We were there today for Saturday brunch. We both have the mussels with fries. Nice shellfish, but the fries needed an upgrade. Waiter suggested the bread pudding for dessert — excellent. Looked at the dinner menu — lots of choices under $ 20. Worth a visit.
