The most consistent and fresh pizza in the neighborhood, maybe in the city. The best plain slice, hands down. Don’t second guess, just go!

I heard Joe’s was the spot for classic NY style pizza by the slice so I stopped by for a slice. I had read reviews that suggested waiting for a slice from a pizza that is fresh out of the oven, but luckily for me I didn’t have to wait for that. At the exact moment I arrived at the register, a sizzling hot cheese pizza came out of the oven. The pizza is good and cheap, but it’s not anything noteworthy. To me it was just another slice of pizza and is comparable to good food court pizza chains. Nonetheless, if I lived nearby and wanted a quick slice of pizza, I would definitely stop by Joe’s. It’s just not anything I’d go out of my way for or look forward to(i.e. if you’re a tourist, you’re not missing out if you don’t stop by).

I am sitting at Joe’s right now. The pizza is thin and crunchy. The idea is to work your way into this slice from the bottom tip of the triangle to the top. The pizza is typically served right off the oven, so careful, as it will burn the roof of your mouth. Worse than eating hot wax. The flavor is tomatoey, with a little hint of tartness and just enough sweetness. This is a magical slice to savor. Currently, Joe’s charges $ 2.75 per slice. That’s a premium price for a street slice, an entire pie will set you back a mere $ 20.00 or slightly more with your favorite toppings. Make it a point to visit this institution, it’s up there some of the best of New York. I have been coming here since –actually since it opened in 1975 and have yet to have a less than extraordinary experience. Actually, I need to vacate the seat, as its 12:25 pm and the line in 15 people deep.

Huge line up when we walked in. When we got to the counter we ordered a pizza pie with almost everything on it. They said that the pie with«any topping» was $ 24 but they ended up charging us $ 28. Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, let me just say that if you ever have a huge craving for animals, carbs and lactose, this is the place to go. We ordered a pizza with event on it and oh my god did they go hard. It was like a hail of meat thrown onto our pizza. They were so generous with the pepperoni and the sausage that sometimes as I was eating, I wasn’t sure if I hit crust at any point. They also had Parma cheese, chili’s and Italian herbs that just added to the richness and the deliciousness. It was greasy, delicious and packed with food. What else more can I say

Love this pizza shop! If I’m even a little hungry and in this area I have to drop in. Standard no frills pizza spot-open late. They’ve got pictures on the walls of celebs who’ve visited and it was featured in the Spiderman movie so it’s great for friends from out of town. Stop here for a quick and delicious NYC slice.

Stopped here for a slice and it was excellent. The crust is thin and crisp, just how I like it. The cheese is real and not greasy you get from processed. The tomato sauce is from the special tomatoes imported from Italy, forget the name but easily found in many grocery stores. Starts with a M. The sauce has a slight sweet taste and is not acidic at all. We are planning to go back for another slice before we leave NYC. Well, we returned the next day and it was even better than the day before. Crust has a slight char that adds another level of flavor. This time we both tried a slice of pepperoni and loved it. The second time I acted like a New Yorker and added garlic, cheese, and oregano. If I lived in NYC I would get a slice several times a week. Have no idea how I can go back to pizza in Dallas.

Wow, this pizza is straight up the best NY-style pizza I’ve had. The crust is so perfectly crispy and the cheese is greasy and wonderful. I really love the sauce, which is in just the right proportion and taste so as to mix beautifully with the cheese. The plain cheese slice is seriously a perfect, foldable, delicious piece of pizza. The only reason that I knocked it down a star is because boyfriend got the fresh mozz slice and I really was not a fan of that one. The cheese tasted kind of hardened and burned and there was too much sauce. But, I mean, if you’re going to get a real NY-style slice, you shouldn’t be getting a «fresh mozzarella» fancy slice anyways. Go for plain cheese. Gotta educate boyfriend better on the right type of pizza to order.

When I think of classic New York pizza, I think of Joe’s. I heard Jimmy Kimmel gave them a shout out and wanted to try them for a long time. I got the plain slice and it was cooked to perfection. No frills.

This was the only pizza I tried in New York on my first visit to the city and I will say that it was bomb! I am not sure what it was about the cheese pizza I had, but I can say it was a slice of heaven. I was on a walking tour and the tour guide pointed this place out along with recommending some around the corner. I decided to try the pizza here since there are photos of celebrities everywhere visiting plus Spider-Man 3 was filmed here for one of the scenes. Didn’t think I would like the pizza like I did, but I did! My friend back home suggested that it was the New York water that made the pizza taste so good. The dough was just amazing! I shook some cheese, pepper, garlic, and herbs on the pizza. Again, bomb! Must try.

It pains me to give this place one star. I LOVEPIZZA. Like, if I could, I’d probably eat it everyday. I was deceived by the reviews. First, the portion given was so small. I was looking through the pics and y’all were given a generous size slice. Mine was just horrendously small. Like come on! The cheese was skimpy too. All I tasted was a heap of bland tomato sauce. The crust was super thick and dry so, I didn’t bother to eat it after one bite. Keep in mind, I was almost finished with the slice. I liked how crispy the slice was after every bite and normally, I always flip pizza over to see if they burnt it or not… LOANDBEHOLD, ITWASBURNT!!! I calmly placed the slice face down as I was disgusted at the plethora of third degree burns the dough had on its back and I threw it out. I NEVER throw out pizza… but this is unforgivable, burnt food can give you cancer! Second, service. Guy at cash register was rude. No smile, nothing. Okay, bye. Tip: FLIPYOURSLICEOVER. MAKESUREITSNOTBURNT.

This is my favourite slice in NYC. I’m most happy with the regular cheese. Once I got a fresh piece of piping hot pepperoni and was disappointed when it fell apart, but still the taste was amazing. Great soft crust, amazing sauce, super cheesy and the taste is awesome. The walls of Joe’s have the coolest celebrity patrons on the wall … it’s nice to check it out while you wait for your slice to cool. If you can wait. They have parmesan, garlic salt and dried oregano on the tables and I just go for the dried oregano; it’s perfect. It’s difficult for me to walk past Joe’s without a lingering, longing glance. I dream of their slices. I want one right now. It’s crazy good.

I love Joe’s — great late night option. Cash only. I have gotten the sicilian, plain cheese, and veggies slies(all at different times ;) of course)… Sicilian is the bomb dot com in my opinon try it. Joes is worth the extra 2 dollars compared to crappy dollar slice down the street. Do it

Decent slice of pizza, especially for 2:30am. I do have a few gripes about the slice(plain). –it was very soggy in the front. –the crust was extremely doughy –there was excess flour on it(feels like dry chalk in my mouth). Hey, I understand some people like a slice like this, for me it wasn’t the best or worst. 04/16/2016 technically 04/17/2016.

I would go back to New York just for a slice of this pizza. Seriously. It’s like heaven on a paper plate. I had a slice of Margherita & sprinkled a sh*t load of chilli flakes on there, because I like spice, okay. Simple, cheap and delicious pizza slices is all you can ask of a quick take out place. No wonder there was a line of customers out the door! We managed to find a space inside to stand and eat our slice and admire the wall of celebs who have visited this place. So glad we decided to grab a slice here.

I seriously think people just come here because of the«Spiderman» gimmick. The 2 plain slices I ordered were burnt. So burnt to the point I started to think they had made a new special limited edition chocolate dough. Whatever I could salvage from the slice is certainly nothing even noteworthy. I consider myself to be a pizza connoisseur of sorts, and there was definitely nothing to make note of here. I’d like to give them another chance one day, so we’ll see. But until then… FAIL.

It really pains me to write this review. You guys all know that I’m usually quite generous when I give out stars, so me giving 1 star to Joe’s Pizza is a huge f***king red alert that I’m not happy at all. The quality of the pizza here has completely gone down the dumps. Legend has it that many, many moons ago Joe’s was the place to go for a really good, cheap slice. The slices are still cheap(regular is $ 2.75, fresh mozzarella $ 3.50) but the actual AMOUNT of pizza they give you is a ripoff. I actually found myself preferring the $ 1 pizza slices to Joe’s, that’s how bad Joe’s has gotten IMHO. They make the slices RAZOR thin, I’m not talking NY style thin crust, I’m literally talking an anorexic looking pizza! At least the $ 1 slices have more meat to them! I ordered the fresh mozzarella slice, and while the slice itself was decent, again I felt like I was eating a glorified cracker with cheese than an actual pizza. Sooo disappointing :( Thank God this is NYC, and there are 10,000 other pizza places that are good here.

Rating pizza is a real challenge, because there are so many types of pizza, and the criteria for which pizza is rated should always be very specific. Joe’s Pizza earns a 5-star review from me because it is the perfect, classic New York City slice. There are no frills whatsoever to be found here. To the naked eye it looks just like any other slice of pizza you’d find in any other pizza joint across the City. But when that piping hot slice is served to you right out the oven and you take that first bite, you know there is something different — something special — about this particular slice. It’s not just one thing. It’s the whole symphony of ingredients — the dough is perfect; thin but not too thin, and crispy enough to remain firm as you pick up the slice. The cheese and sauce are applied at the exact perfect ratio. And obviously, there’s something magical about the oven. Many people will tell you that a good slice stands out because of the dough, and more specifically, the water used to make the dough — and that is true. But when you have the right pizza oven; when you have cured and perfected that pizza oven cooking thousands upon thousands of pies over the years — something amazing happens. My favorite time to eat a slice at Joe’s used to be around 3 – 3:30am, but alas I’m a wee bit older now, so I generally get my slice in before midnight if I’m in the area. Joe’s is so good that my friends and I have been known to get a slice just minutes before heading out for our real dinner reservation. And no matter how full I am, no matter what time of the day it is, if I find myself walking within a block of Joe’s, as a rule, I must get a slice. It’s that good. I love Joe’s pizza. If you haven’t tried it, you need to. This is one little piece of New York City history that has remained a constant for years.

Things to know: they only take cash!!! I learned that they only take cash the hard way. Upon my second visit, I was prepared and ready to have this famous NY pizza! Did it live up to it’s gigantic reputation? As a pizza fanatic, yes, yes it did. I had slice of cheese. The crust was really thin yet had a crisp to it. The ratio of sauce to cheese was spot on. I inhaled the slice and I will definitely be back for more! It seems like there is always a line there but I think it moves fast. I recommend going on off hours. The staff here is a bit rude though. They were pushy and definitely not friendly. They know they have good pizza so they don’t try in the service department. At all. Takeout review: after about a 16 min drive, pizza held up well. A bit greasy and definitely lost its crunch upon being reheated in the oven, but still a great NY style pizza.
