I love John’s. I live 2 blocks away, and their sausage pizza was a staple in our household. Unfortunately, they have closed. I’ve passed by the storefront many times in the past few weeks, and each time it was closed. There is simply a sign saying«closed» taped to the door — no further explanation. We’ll miss you John’s!

They are now closed on 64th street. No explanation as some of their former staff waiting outside without knowledge. This was a super pizza place. Too bad for us.

Ate here twice during my visit to New York and have been on a previous trip. The first night we caught them when things seemed to have gone wrong early on in the evening and they never really caught up. Although we had to flag down a waiter, once we ordered, the pizzas came out relatively quickly and the beer and wine was replaced as we asked. The second time was much better. Not as crowded and our group was bigger. This time the staff was able to take care of us right from the start and were very attentive. Both times the wait staff was friendly, even though the first time they they seemed harried. The pizza is very good and even better the next day, especially if you like your leftover pizza cold. I ordered the Caesar salad as a starter both times. It is probably big enough to share. I was full after both visits.

My first visit and I read a lot of reviews mentioning bad service, but we didn’t find that to be the case. – although there were maybe 3 parties in the whole place. We ate in the back garden(still indoors, really), which was very cute. The first beer arrived flat, but was quickly replaced with a bottled beer and the pizza was excellent – very thin crust. We will be back and if everything’s as good the second time, will bump it up a star. Oh, they appear to have some pretty good lunch specials, but we were there for dinner.

Omg this is the best pizza I’ve had in NYC, I don’t know why it only has three stars! My only reason for giving 5 stars is because our waiter was very rude and exhibited horrible customer service. He seemed uninterested in our table and actually appeared to be annoyed that we weren’t ready to order right when we sat down — it was our first time there! BUT the pizza is to die for. I may be new to the city, but I’ve had pizza in other restaurants here and all over — this is one of the best and I’ve never had such amazing crust! The spinach ravioli is perfectly creamy. The mozzarella and bruschetta appetizers were also delicious. I loved everything about this place and found myself dreaming about having their pizza again.

I’ve been coming to this restaurant over 15 years or more… unfortunately it has gone… way…way…down! i was so disappointment with the quality of the food… I WILLNOTRETURN! The Chicken parmesan was delivered cold and had to be reheated, but wasn’t very good. the spaghetti and meatballs also was cold and below par. Lastly, the pizza was over cooked and burnt. 2THUMBSWAYDOWN!

Great Pizza… Horrible Service I have been here dozens of times in the past but haven’t been here in about a year. The pizza, when it finally arrived, was delicious however out service was flat out horrible. The place was almost empty, I think there were 3 other tables that were occupied. It took our waiter 20 minutes to take our drink order and another 15 minutes to bring 1 pitcher of soda. I ordered 2 pies for our table, nothing too complicated…1 with sausage and the other with half sausage. The waiter came back 3 different times to ask me to repeat my order. I told my wife I have a feeling we might be one of those hidden camera shows… there’s no way this guy can’t remember my order of 2 pies 10seconds after telling him. It took another 45 minutes for him to bring our pizza and lo and behold he screwed it up and gave us a pie with ricotta cheese and no sausage. I couldn’t help myself and started laughing and asked him to repeat my order… He got it right but somehow decided to bring us something different. He apologized and returned with the correct pies a short time later. The pizza is great but there are 2 other Johns pizza locations that I will be spending my money… The service is always spot on at the Bleecker street and Times Sq locations. 0 stars for service and 4 stars for the pizza…

Nothing better than a hot pizza and a cold pitcher of beer. The pizza is solid. It’s not worth making a pilgrimage for but it’s a really good neighborhood spot. Within the ultra competitive pizza mecca of NYC, it holds its own very well. The prices are reasonable for this part of the UES.

This place is FANTASTIC! I had the mozzarella pie(mozzarella, tomato sauce, and basil) and it was delicious! The cheese was ooey gooey just the way I like it, the basil was in small slices and scattered so every bite had a sprinkle of basil, there was just enough tomato sauce to give you a taste but not to over power the slice and the crust was thin, crunchy and didn’t collapse from a soggy bottom like most slices I’ve had. The service is very attentive and very nice. If you get the chance, and weather permit it, you definitely try to eat outside in their little garden spot. It’s covered in plastic which I know is used to keep out bugs and hungry birds but it takes away from the cool night breeze I felt when walking outside BUT with the sun setting and it not being too breezy or humid, it’s definitely the preferred spot to eat.

I’ve lived in NYC for 20 years and this is one of the very best pizzas I’ve ever had — every single time. Even when delivered, it comes quickly and is delicious.

LOVEDTHISPLACE! Went with a large group and they easily accommodated us and were so kind about it. The garlic bread was to die for and desserts were simply amazing. The pizza was some of the best I’ve had and the waiter was incredible. Great atmosphere and fun place to go with family and friends.

John’s is my spot. Whether its delivery or going in after a movie, I love John’s! When I get it delivered it is always super quick and still hot. And when I eat in, I always order their calamari, its actually very good, and a large pepperoni pizza. They have pretty decent beer’s here, and tv’s to watch some games, and the booths make me happy.

They do great thin crust pizza at this establishment. We also tried the side of meatballs. Both were tasty. They produce crispy thin crust pizza just like their sibling restaurants in the village and Times Square. Big diff is this unassuming location. Wooden booths and simple tables. Food is the same. Enjoy.

I really like this place(like, not love). It’s very laid back and the pizza doesn’t take long to get to your table hot and fresh. I do however have some complaints(of course I do), the pizza needs more sauce, they need to add more than two leaves of fresh basil when people order basil on their pizza, toppings are usually sparse even though you pay extra for every single one. On the pos. side, their dough is good making the crust edible without breaking a tooth. I’d go back, mostly because the UES lacks a great pizza place. John’s is better than Patsy’s though.

I tried John’s a year or so ago and was completely underwhelmed. However, the last two times I ordered takeout I have been super impressed. The Margherita is phenomenal and better than Patsy’s in my opinion. The fresh mozarella and the dough are both delish. I have officially converted.

Visited John’s Pizzeria yesterday. An off the cuff decision with a new friend. Didn’t know what to expect and must say that the experience was a two thumbs up. I had the margherita personal pizza with ricotta and prosciutto. Can anyone argue with fresh basil? I’ll answer that — NO! Anything fresh is just out of this world. The pizza dough was not great, but good. I had club soda and one glass of Chianti. The Chianti was simply great. Before coming to John’s we stopped at a wine shop on 2nd avenue that was so disappointing with their acid, stale wine, that sipping on this Chianti at John’s was so refreshing. We ended by having a chocolate cannolo ice cream. I think it was ok, great marketing but if you’re like me and are selective with your high calorie foods, I’d skip the sweets part of this experience. Yes I would go back, the value was also excellent. The service was super. #REwithSante

I’ve been coming here for nearly twenty years so I think I have a good idea when it comes to consistency and this place has definitely kept their pizza tasting the same, in fact I ordered from there a couple of weeks ago and it was the best it had ever been. I recommend this place to everyone in my neighborhood and whenever I have family from France or Lebanon that comes visit, this is the first place we take them to. Those of you who don’t believe me or are skeptical about the quality over the years, order a sliced tomato, basil and garlic pizza and tell me it isn’t heavenly! Also who orders a salad at a Pizzeria, that’s just asking for trouble? This is not a place for vegans or assholes that don’t eat gluten by choice, so don’t bother coming here because we don’t want you in our neighborhood Pizzeria.

Note: I came here with a rather large group following a funeral service, so my opinions may be skewed. The service wasn’t the best, but seeing as how we had such a large group and only one person waiting on us, the job was pretty well done. As for the pizza… not bad, definitely not the best thin crust coal-fired pizza in NYC, but it was good. The dough was tasteless, whereas places like Lombardi’s or Gramaldi’s are significantly better. But overall it was good. Tasty sauce, good proportion of cheese to sauce, fresh basil, and crunchy. The way it should be cooked for the style. Prices seemed somewhat high seeing what the locale brought, especially being all the way over on 1st avenue. Not really what I’d consider going out of my way for. Plus the B rating for sanitary didn’t thrill me. Things seemed clean enough regardless. I don’t know why Zagat rated this place so highly, it was plastered all over the door. Anyhow, if you’re nearby, it’s better than other traditional corner pizza joints.
