When I arrived for my periodontist consultation, the receptionist was friendly and attentive. Dr. Zeichner greeted me and informed me that he was running a few minutes late. No problem. I can understand that some patients require more time. I only waited a total of 10 minutes in the waiting room. During the consultation, Dr. Zeichner was professional and SEEMED to understand my concerns. I was there a second opinion from another periodontist. He explained to me that he is well aware of my dental insurance’s policy and will work with me and the insurance company to get the most coverage from my dental plan which was much appreciated. After the consultation, I received a bill from Dr. Z’s office for the consultation fee. He billed my insurance incorrectly so they didn’t pay him. I contacted my dental insurance and they informed me that they do pay for periodontist consultations, Dr. Z used the incorrect billing code. I contacted his receptionist and she was very short with me and said Dr. Z’s never had any problems billing that code with any dental insurance. No explanation was given and she didn’t care about my concerns. My insurance has a 3rd party program that handles various issues including doctors and incorrect billing procedures. I contacted the representative to resolve this issue. Long story short, this was a 3 – 4 month battle that I underwent with my dental insurance and Dr. Zeichner. He became very vicious and nasty about the entire process when in fact, he has no idea about appropriate insurance billing practices. I am a medical provider myself and I know that each insurance has different billing procedures. Finally, Dr. Z was given the opportunity to submit a new insurance claim and bill a code that will pay for his services. He billed corrected and was paid by the dental insurance company. One month later, I received another bill from his office. I called and informed him that my dental insurance paid him and that the explanation of benefits stated that there was no balance remaining to be paid to him anymore. He insisted that the balance billing is for his expertise and level of care provided and that he was dissatisfied with the reimbursement by the dental insurance company. As a doctor, the insurance contracts strictly prohibit«balance billing» of patients once payment is made by the insurance company to the doctor. As a patient, I am not held accountable for his dissatisfaction with payment from insurance carriers. I was appalled by his lack of professionalism when it came to this matter and how poorly he handled it. HEHASLOST A CUSTOMERFORLIFE. I will tell all of my friends, family, and fellow Unilocalers to avoid his dental practice because of his billing practices.
