Great service. They remember my order on the third visit. GF friendly. Basic sushi. Lunch specials.

We enjoyed a quiet meal on a Sunday afternoon at this small Greenwich Village sushi spot. The sashimi regular(15 pieces for $ 21.50), salmon avocado roll($ 6.60) and spicy salmon crunch roll($ 7) — with just a star off for the rice, which seemed a little too dry. For the total price($ 38.50 before tip), it was a great bargain as the fish was very fresh.

Kawa was my go-to sushi spot while I was living in the West Village. For such a tiny space, they pack in a whole lot of flavor! You will find yummy options in all areas of their extensive menu. Some of my favorite dishes include the Sea Roll(featuring shrimp, lobster, roe, tobiko, veggies, and more), the Yellowtail Jalapeño, the Veggie Udon Noodle Soup, and the scallop sashimi(layered with fresh slices of lemon). Kawa also offers an impressive selection of sake to enjoy with your meal. Despite it’s limited seating, I have always found a table open. The décor is simple and elegant. I enjoy people-watching out of the large street-facing window while chowing down. I have head that to-go and delivery orders are speedy, but have never used these services myself. I am docking one star as I feel their portions are small for their asking prices. That said, they have many lunch deals that are great value.

Great quality for the price. I went for dinner with some friends and the place was very low key with nice and responsive wait staff. The sushi was top quality for such an affordable place. If you’re looking for sushi in the west village area, then I’d give this a try!

I’ve only order the lunch special delivery(multiple times). It’s a decent special: 2 rolls w/soup and salad for $ 10 or 3 rolls w/soup and salad for $ 12. It’s not lightning speed delivery but it’s usually accurate. Only a couple of times they totally forgot soy sauce or ginger. The salmon is okay and typically good cuts but hey, it’s a cheap lunch special.

For $ 10, I would say that my meal was not worth it. If you check out my picture, you will see that the price vs portion ratio is way off. Not only that, my meal tasted below average. Customer service was lacking significantly. You can tell by the empty restaurant and the past reviews that there is a significant necessity for improvement here. If the place right next to it accepted card, I wouldn’t have come here.

Was exploring the area and tried to get into the breakfast place next door but it was way too crowded and I wasn’t getting any service at the bar. So I left and settled for Kawa Sushi. I was pleasantly satisfied though. I got the lunch 2 sushi roll set which included a salad and miso soup. I got the salmon cucumber and tuna avocado rolls. I liked the rolls because it was more about the fish than the rice. There wasn’t as much rice as usual so it doesn’t make you as full of rice which is good. Speedy service, attentive waitresses. Nice and cozy.

I walked in and was greeted but was quickly assumed to be just someone not so important. I was going to eat in because they have a cute dining area but after the vibe I got I decided to take it to go. The girls at the register continued to speak in whispers to one another and did not make the wait enjoyable. I ordered a spicy shrimp roll and it was overloaded with avocado that it barely had any shrimp. It had a good flavor but sometimes the avocado was too much. I wanted to try some place I’ve never been and off my path travelled. Not sure I will do that anymore.

I work in the area and this is my favorite cheap lunch option. $ 10.73 for soup, salad, and 2 rolls. I come here at least once a week.

We found this place by mistake and fell in love — amazing rolls, very unique dishes. The tuna pizza was amazing! Great service.

I have only done take-out so I cannot rate their dine-in service. However, the service that I receive when I pick up my meal is awesome! The lady at the counter remembers what I order, almost every weekday, and gets it going as soon as I arrive. The portions are very impressive and the fish is fresh and tasty!

Your run of the mill sushi joint. Reasonable prices, adequate amount of sushi in each roll and sashimi tastes as fresh as run of the mill gets. Good place to stop by in this area if you are hungry and don’t want to fork out a fortune on fancy dining in all the other restaurants around the area. Also a plus that they have naruto rolls. Also so cute that they give you those cute japanese balls of gum in the boxes at the end of your meal!

Average at best for take out sushi place or a quick friendly dinner. Staff and management was unaccommodating even when I tried to substitute in a roll from a cheaper combo into my more expensive combo expecting to still pay the higher rate. After explaining how that didn’t make sense I asked to speak with management or owner just to be told that I couldn’t because they didn’t speak English. In the competitive environment we live in, a reasonable amount of favorable customer service goes a long way.

Yeek. Seriously. The chefs at this place needs to go to other sushi places and learn how sushi should taste. Don’t ever order rock shrimps or spicy tuna roll. Saggy, fishy, disgusting.

Quaint lil sushi joint in the Village. It is nothing to write home about, but I was happy a friend took us there while visiting NYC. It was fresh, delicious and the service was great. Also it was pretty affordable especially considering it is in NY and in the West Village. They have healthy options if you prefer to have seaweed instead of rice for your rolls or brown rice instead of white. $ 4 glasses of wine? Umm sign me up! Good find in the neighborhood!

Location is small but a window seat is always a nice perk. The waitress was about as engaging as the tepid miso soup that was served. I should have listened to a common theme in the other reviews about the staff here. Sushi was sub par although edible. I am not even interested enough in Kawa to tell you what I ordered because I am instead saying… Go elsewhere for sushi… you’re in NYC… it’s everywhere and you’ll get better quality fish and service. Kawa, sorry but your staff needs to, at least, be borderline sociable in order to retain a customer’s business. But, if Kawa is just interested in having tourist clientele who don’t know better and will never come back anyway… good luck with that. Live and learn, folks.

To rank this place officially, I wouldn’t put it on my MUST go to in NYC, but i’m SO glad we came upon this neighborhood joint! It was pretty empty for a Saturday night, considering the restaurant has about 6 tables. So cozy for group of gals to catch up! Also, food was fantastic, and portions were large. We started with the Seaweed Salad, which was surprisingly large for an appetizer, and the Rock shrimp(YUM, and so freshly made). And for entrée, I had the River Roll, which has more non-raw items(shrimp tempura, unagi, avocado, topped with Tobiko!) Also, glasses of wine for $ 4, and large hot sake’s for like $ 12!

The food is fine… nothing spectacular, though. Let’s just say that in a city like New York, there are many, many better options. The hostess/waitress was terrible. She was unfriendly and unprofessional. I’ll save everyone the boring details of how completely unengaged she was, because I’m sure you have all experienced bad waitresses before. You get the gist of it though — don’t go here. There are plenty of other,(much) better options.
