Best guac in New York City, actually. All authentic Mexican food. Everything is fresh. Cute little restaurant with cool vibes. Intimate for a date spot but also nice to come with a group. The waiter is very attentive — super nice, gave great recommendations on the menu and is also very proud of the restaurant and its food. Definitely come here.

Always wanted to try this taqueria to find out what was all the hype about. The inside is pretty interesting and the purple couch is a nice touch. The menu is a plain white paper that seemed like they have scanned it a million times because its old looking and you can hardly read it. Lol The server/cashier was not as attentive because he was taking care of another table, making time to draw on the board, and taking my tables order. Also, the individual was not friendly. The place is small so I can see why they only have one person in the front but at one point the place became filled with a bigger crowd. So it can get a bit hard to handle, in terms of providing good service. As for the food I tried the tacos with hibiscus and sweet plantains. It was so amazingly delicious. The tortilla which they get daily from nixztamal tortilleria made the tacos 100x more delicious. The creativity of these tacos and the flavor are honestly out of this world. I even heard a guy in the table next to me tell the server that those were the best tacos he has ever had. I do want to note that the prices are higher and the portions/size of the tacos are smaller than standard. However, you will be tempted to ask for more because they are so darn good. Until next time…

Really great food with a funky and warm atmosphere that’s rare. Definitely recommend it! Most favorite tacos in the city for sure!

I can’t believe I forgot to write a review for La Lucha, because the food here was bonkers good. I got the steak taco(el solitario) and the steak with cheese taco(el espanto), along with a side of guacamole. Each taco is $ 4 and the guac was $ 8, which I think is a bit steep, especially for a hole in the wall type of place like this. My 3 gal pals got tacos as well, along with beers. There was one person working, but service wasn’t slow. La Lucha is a tiny place, so while there are tables and seats, it’s tight.

Really good authentic Mexican street tacos. The shrimp tacos are definitely the best, especially with the chipotle mayo aioli. Super cheap and quick, the salsa was flavorful and spicy, and our server was really nice and chill. Definitely will come back!

The grilled corn with chipotle mayo is to die for. The ambience was great and Frank was superb and very personable. The hibiscus taco was deeeeee-licious!

La Lucha is a hidden gem! Unpretentious taco joint with plenty of veggie-friendly options and excellent guacamole. Service was fine on a Friday night. I’m definitely coming back!

The staff means well, and this place seems new, but it is offensively slow and honestly I could make guac just as good. They’ll need to step it up if they want to do better

We got a prix fixe deal that was a total ripoff for the amount of food compared to the price paid(I had a couple of bites of appetizers and 2 tacos for $ 40 because of the corking fee – $ 24 dollars for a $ 10 bottle of vodka). Would definitely never recommend or come again.

I was REALLY craving grilled corn(Elote, i think) and stumbled upon this place. They do it so well I ordered a second one! Thank you La Lucha for making my night! The flavors were on point, the corn was perfectly grilled, and the service was fantastic. Will come back for the tacos!

With authentic Mexican food that packs a punch, La Lucha presents a fantastic option for those who want a fun night out without spending a fortune. Guacamole, grilled corn and fried cheese are tasty starters, and the mixed taco plate for $ 14.50 is a very filling budget treat.

Good service, great ambiance(mexican wrestling trash vaudeville), terrible food. If this was performance venue, I would rate it 5 stars. Unfortunately it’s a restaurant and dry, extremely salty food, served right after the opening just doesn’t warrant more then 1 star. Perhaps the chef was having a bad day… Love the décor though, so I’m willing to give them another chance. Stand by…

Very neat place. Small and quiet but perfectly so. The staff was very friendly and passionate about the place. I overheard there’s a speakeasy downstairs. I’ll be back to check that out sometime soon. Everything has a vibrant Mexican Wrestling theme.

The mexican food here is really exceptional. I love that their flavors are strong without being salty. I always go for their rice with black beans and soft shell tacos. Plus their serving sizes are hearty and very reasonably priced. The restaurant lighting is rather dark and they always seems light on wait staff, but I’ve never had a bad experience or long waits. Its really good food, and I definitely recommend it.

Oh man this place is adorable! I pass it every day on my way to work and decided to go for a quick bite one day after my boyfriend and I went to Governor’s Ball. We got 3 tacos, steak, saltado steak and spicy pork along with a side of avocado and corn. The presentation was beautiful the corn was crunchy, the avocado was fresh and the tacos were perfect! The spicy pork blew my mind. It was also awesome that we were the only ones in the whole place so the whole staff was attentive and very nice. Definitely go there if your craving some delicious cheap tacos!

Chill little spot, great lighting and killer tacos. As I stated in my Tacombi review, growing up in LA and spending a decent amount of time in Mexico, NYC tacos are a joke. They are all adorable gourmet attempts but far from that authentic feel or flavor. Even the atmosphere is a little too manufactured. That disclaimer out of the way, is is a solid NYC taqueria. Good service, a touch pricey. Well-located near St Marks. Thus far my fave taco joint in NYC is Tacombi, but this is a close second and in a far better location for a night out. Look, you would go to Nashville and rave about the pizza, right. Keep it real, kids! This is a solid NYC taco joint. Have yet to try their tres leches, but I’ll update when I do.

Look, maybe because I hadn’t eaten all day but if the hostess wasn’t so cute I would have licked the plate.

«Just edible» food combined with this décor would prompt me to give La Lucha NYC5 stars. It is that cute. Luckily for me, the food is tasty and worth stopping by without the lucha libre themed restaurant. I was especially delighted by the vintage flicks projected onto the wall. This isn’t fine dining, but a spot to bring people who are looking for a different vibe or experience while eating with friends. I dare to say… bring a date if you’re laid back, like conversation, and are entertained by kitsch. There will be plenty to talk about, and it will show off your fun personality. A stuffy guy/girl wouldn’t choose La Lucha NYC for a date. I feel like I could put together a «Dear Amy» column helping peole select first date spots.

Awwww, dang. La Lucha has taken quite a turn since the last time I went there. I’m so bummed. I literally left this establishment with sad face. The quality of the tacos themselves is still quite divine. Fresh onions and cilantro gingerly top simple meats on a small corn tortilla. For me, that’s not enough. Adam, my total BFFL and one of my main partners in culinary crime, and I were in Alphabet City, looking for a small, late-night, uncrowded bite to eat after a friend’s birthday party. I remember La Lucha and suggested it. I was admittedly wavering a bit… not sure if I wanted tacos or pizza, but we wanted to escape the ever — more — inebriated Avenue A /St. Mark’s crowd, and La Lucha was surprisingly uncrowded. We made our entrance. First off, $ 4.50 — $ 5.50 for a solitary taco with little substance to it? I don’t care how fresh it tastes. My wallet’s been happier. Secondly, at the bottom of the menu, it clearly stated that, unless it always has cheese and /or avocado on it, you will be charged an additional $ 1.00 to add it to any taco. Fair enough. Adam ordered one of the cheese-less, avocado-less tacos, and asked the waitress to please add cheese to it. She mumbled back something unintelligible, but we heard the end of it, «No.» Confused, he literally pointed at the taco on the menu, pointed to the«additional charge for cheese» blurb, then pointed back to his choice of taco on the menu again, carefully explaining that he wanted cheese added to his taco. After a moment, she asked him if he didn’t want onion on his taco. (That loud, deafening bang you heard at about 10:45 p.m. on Saturday, September 29th, 2012… well, that was us, slamming our heads into the restaurant table in utter disbelief at the preceding conversation.) He got his taco(cheese-less, but, luckily, with onions), and I got mine. I ordered a side of rice to go with it. Good flavor, but undercooked, dried out, and obviously quite old. Have you ever gotten that rice at a buffet that’s been stuck to the side of the metal serving tray, all nice and crunchy? I basically got an entire small bowl of that. I could not finish the bowl. That’s how unappetizing it was. Our waitress was quite cranky and a bit short with us, unceremoneously placing our foods on the table without eye contact or acknowledgement, never once checking on us despite the fact that we were two of only about six patrons in there. Of course, I’m that really nice person that thinks(or at least hopes) that she was having a bad night. Honestly, I’m not sure if I’d go back. That’s too bad. Oh well. Can’t win ‘em all.
