Fruit and veg prices are often unmarked, which made me wary, but they often turn out to be cheaper than Bravo. Lots of fun speciality items that you won’t find elsewhere in the neighborhood. High quality dairy items, including many organics, though pricy. Amazing cheese case.

Great selections! I come here every week for my jug of milk, pound of beef, and local kimchi. Service — The staff is warm and welcoming, so it’s always a joy to walk in the front door. Meats — I believe they restock on Wednesdays so I recommend dropping by then for fresh beef, veal, pork, chicken, lamb or turkey. Seafood — I’ve never tried their seafood before, but they do have quite a spread. Vegetables — I occasionally buy broccoli here, but that’s about it. Their red peppers aren’t always as fresh as I’d like it to be, so I usually get my vegetables from the street vendors. Sauces — They carry Siracha!!! If you can’t find what you’re looking for at other supermarkets, this place might have it. It’s clean and carries high quality produce. Drop on by!

Great little market especially if you are looking for something different than what they have at the Bravo Supermarket a few blocks down. Meat is super fresh and made to order. The location is small and can get a little crowded and uncomfortable but its worth it for the quality of the produce.

Favorite grocery store in the area. I usually go for their meat selection because its so fresh and they clean it up pretty well(remove most of the fat). They also have great avocados. I actually don’t recall ever getting a bad avocado from here. I do think they are on the expensive side on the produce, compared to other places in the area.

This is a great little market, with an amazing variety in a small space and fantastic selection of meats and fish for the size of the place. Be prepared to do the hokey pokey with other shoppers and suck it in in the close quarters — but it’s very clean and a nice Washington heights shopping stop.

Seeing as I don’t trust Gristedes with any of my seafood selections, I decided to give La Rosa a shot and save myself food poisoning and a subway ride. I’ve been to La Rosa before for little things and aside from the claustrophobia-inducing floor plan, the employees are friendly and helpful. I bought a pound and a half of cooked shrimp even though I was put off a bit by the overly fishy smell of the seafood counter. Yes, I know it’s a fish department. No, it’s not supposed to be blatantly noticeable and the line of good and bad is fairly obvious to me. When I got home I rinsed them just to be safe and although they were fine, many were sloppily cleaned. I felt like David Spade in Tommy Boy -«Uggh, do you always have to de-turd these things?» I used a little more than half and refrigerated the rest. Sure enough, the next day they’d about all gone home to Jesus and I wasn’t going to push my luck. Shrimp should really keep for longer than that. Maybe I caught La Rosa on an off day and I’ll still go for other things and leave the seafood to the fish market. They are cheaper than Gristedes and others on some items and the produce is quality so La Rosa is still OK by me.

Pretty fresh and diverse selection produce, nice meat counter, great cheese selection. Cleanest grocery I’ve been to in Washington Heights. Definitely tiny, but functional for sure. I’ll take this over Gristedes any day.

The layout is stupid and cramped. It’s impossible to enter and exit. Time to call the fire Marshall!

Wound up buying a duck there for Thanksgiving… went to cook it, it was bad. Brought it back to the store, they gave me a refund, I bought a chicken instead and they gave me a free duck for my trouble. The chicken was virtually tasteless, but the second go ’round on the duck was successful. I do appreciate their willingness to help and setting me up with the freebie. These are the kind of folks I like to do business with.

I just love this place! It reminds me of a mini spanish version of Whole foods. Plus, the lobster tails here taste great once they’re cooked.

Love the meat selection. My cousin put me on to this spot. If you pay a few bucks extra they season any meat for you. OMG! Every BBQ that i host I purchase my seasoned Churassco and steak from there. Even my porkchops. You should see the line at my grill when people know i bought it at Rosa. All the way from Jersey to buy the meat.

Excellent service at the meat counter. Will cut/chop/grind piece for you. The meat has always been fresh and the prices are pretty good.
