There are literally thousands of salons in Manhattan. There is only ONE Taka, owner of Lotus. Luckily for Manhattanites(including me), Taka now has 3 locations. His eponymous salon on the UES(best blowout in the city hands down, especially under $ 35.00!), another in East Village and now this beautiful Lotus salon in TriBeCa. Under his new management, this space has been transformed into a visually aesthetic gem. Think Ralph Lauren meets Restoration Hardware. The complimentary drinks are a nice touch. But go here for a hair cut. Seriously. Taka understands hair, he’s an architect actually. He is the only person in NYC who can consistently and perfectly cut short hair, fine tuning the cut until it perfectly flatters my facial features and is exactly how I want it(I’m a tough critic!). And at $ 100.00 a cut he is far below the average owner-cut prices in Manhattan. Also, take advantage of 20% ooff new client promo he runs. Go, call. Get the best haircut of your life. Just don’t take my standing appointment!

If you want a world class haircut, this is the spot. Taka is top notch and he only hires the best. Everyone is courteous and professional, and the space is gorgeous: roomy with high ceilings and decorated with a high level of attention to detail. Couldn’t recommend more highly, check it out!

LOELOVELOVE Tokuyama Salon! I have been getting haircut by owner Taka since I found him in 2012 at Tokuyama Salon. He is AMAZING! He recently opened a 3rd location in Tribeca. Only he can cut my hair right, so I always follow him wherever he goes. :) I visited his Tribeca location. OMG! I’ve never seen such a gorgeous hair salon in the city. Taka’s décor skills always amaze me! Also, I got awesome natural highlights by colorist Tomoyo at Upper East Side location and she did exactly what I wanted and executed it beautifully. Decent prices, clean and friendly staff. Also, they offer a discount at your first visit. If you want to get an A+ hair done in NYC, I would highly recommend Taka to anyone. Tokuyama Salon is absolutely the best salon in NY. Thank you Taka!

NEVERGOTOTHISSALON!!! HORRIBLECUSTOMERSERVICEANDSTYLISTS. MICHIKOONO colored my hair the wrong color after two tries. The color looks nothing like the pictures I provided(several shades darker) and she told me that what she did was the direction SHE wanted to go in… not the direction I, the customer, requested. The manager of the salon called me to say she trusts Michiko and had no interest in seeing the discrepancy between the pictures I provided and the color of my hair. Nevermind I am getting married in a few weeks — why should they care about correcting the color or making sure I have a satisfactory experience? She offered no genuine apology, partial refund or refund. Also — the name of their salon is misleading. A stylist in the West Village Lotus Salon told me they AREN’T affiliated with the Tribeca salon. SKETCHYBUSINESS. SKETCHYOPERATION. STEERCLEAR!

I have been to Lotus Salon a few times now and I love it! My stylist is Selda and she is AMAZING! She has dyed my hair both blonde(from dark brown hair) and red and has made me look amazing both times!!! She takes pride in satisfying her customers and it surely shows in her work. Will be staying a loyal customer to her!

One word: Vincent. He is an absolute genius. I’ve always been reluctant to try a new salon, but a close stylist friend of mine said I just HAD to go to Vincent and I am SO happy did. When I first went to Vincent, I had just chopped off nearly all my hair and had no idea what to do with it. My hair had been long been long my whole life and now it was to my chin — I had no idea what would work, what I should do… I put my trust entirely in Vincent and I was thrilled. It was an amazing haircut — and it grew out beautifully, too. I got compliments up to my next appointment with him however many months later. Now, more than two years since my first appointment, I still go to Vincent. My hair is now past my shoulders and he has given me a stellar cut every step of the way. He also does GREAT color. Knows just what to do to make your eyes pop. I followed him from the West Village to TriBeCa, and I recommend you make the trip. Whatever length your hair, Vincent does a killer cut that grows out beautifully. I know what I like and what I don’t like, but when I go to the salon and have a hankering for something new, I don’t always know what I want. Vincent takes everything I say into consideration and I leave saying, «THIS is what I wanted!»

All you need to know was Selda was amazing. The salon is very clean and spacious and the people are warm and friendly. I am an African American and have chemically straightened hair. Most high end salons in the city have no idea where to start with my kind of hair. After chatting with Selda for a bit about my hair concerns and showing her pictures of new looks, she quickly was able to confirm that the cut I wanted would work on my face. She washed my hair with really amazing organic, sulfate free shampoo which was followed by a head massage. She was super gentle and blew out my hair perfectly in about 30 mins. Finally the cut… it was perfect. She gave me a long bob just like I wanted. The cut had the right amount of swing and movement and felt very in style and customized to my face. She really listened to me and took time to check with me during the appointment to make sure I was ok with the direction she was going in. I will definitely be back. Thanks Selda!

It was ok. I have been there several times to get a conditioning japanese treatment, that I get in LA once a month. The one in LA is an original japanese hair salon, so they do it amazingly. I knew I would not find the same in NY but I hoped for something similar. The treatment I get is the same product line, but the way they execute it here is not the same. Instead of sitting under the heating machine they just wrap your head in a hot wet towel for 5 minutes which gets cold very fast. So It obviously don’t have the same affect. I also get a trim sometimes, which is fine the amazing at all. She always asks me if i want layers as I have fine hair I like to keep one length and have as much hair as possible. Layers don’t work for me. And now reading the other reviews I’m glad I didn’t let her do it. Blowdry is average as well. It’s the kind of salon when leaving you feel like you need to wash and restyle your hair the way you like it. You def won’t leave exactly how you want yourself to look. Also last time I had to wait for my stylist 15 minutes as she ran our for coffee on the corner. I find that rude. I arrived on my appointent right on time, and she was out getting coffee. When I told the other stylist that I have a dinner to attend after my treatment, she said the stylist will be back in a minute. I was surprised she didn’t try to call her or something to tell her she had a client waiting. 5 minute turned into 15 when she showed up very casual relaxed. Whatever!

I get my haircut at Lotus for one reason: Michele! She totally transformed my look. She is the Queen of the Sexy Haircut. Everyone loves Michele. The Reade Street location has closed, but I followed Michele from Reade Street to North Moore. Book an appointment with her– she will make you look and feel like a supermodel.

Totally disappointed. I recently moved to NYC and have been trying to find a stylist. Lotus Salon is in my neigborhood and had great reviews so I decided to give it a shot. Long story short(or my hair now, for that matter), I have(had) long hair. I told the stylist I wanted to keep my hair and my layers long and I just needed to trim the ends and re-shape the layers. She suggested taking an inch off and I was fine with that. Unfortunately, many more inches were taken off. I told the stylst that she cut my much shorter than I wanted. Her response — «This length is much better for you.» In 6 months when my hair finally grows back, I will not return to this place.
