We came in on a Sunday night and ordered the monkfish special and pollo marsala. Both were well-seasoned and the portion size was generous. Perfect for a date in the Columbia area.

Bread-below average. The baguette is hard and not fresh from the oven. Average taste of tomato sauce with garlic oil. Linguine del pescatore-average. Ink linguine that tastes like normal spaghetti. A lot of tomato sauce. A little sour for me. Well roasted garlic. Good amount of chewy shrimp, but I’m expecting some clams and mussels.

Food is okay but I’d just pay the extra few bucks for Pisticci’s.

I came here early on a Friday night, about 5pm for dinner. There was only 1 other group there. Apparently no reservations are needed for a party of 2, only 4 or more. By the time I left at 6:30 the place was packed! It’s a relatively small restaurant so not ideal for large groups The waiter was nice. But I did not like how they did not have anymore sangria even though it’s on their menu. Nor did that have the Pinot Grigio on their menu. Weird. We ordered the burrata as an appetizer. They my friend had penne ala vodka and I had the spaghetti carbonara. Not the best I’ve ever had but the quality is comparable to the price for each dish. For dessert we had a tartufo and crème brûlée. Same thing, not the best but good enough for the price. I would definitely return for a casual dinner. May not be worth a wait though. Overall the food was good and decently priced. It’s cash only which I was prepared for, but could be inconvenient for other people. And I wasn’t a fan of the wine situation

Had wanted to try Max SoHa for a while. It’s cash only but not a problem because their prices are very reasonable. We started with a huge portion of beef carpaccio. For the entrée, I got the Fettuccine al sugo Toscano: the homemade meat sauce was rich, and the homemade pasta was cooked al dente, so it had a nice chew. We also got the chocolate mouse cake, which was divine! I definitely want to go back to try more from the variety of pasta dishes. Atmosphere was very cozy, attentive service; we ended up having a conversation with the table next to us, since they were regulars.

2.8 stars You see a lot of grad students here, and for good reason. There aren’t many great dining options in the area. I haven’t eaten here, but I have attended meetings over iced tea. Not bad,

I agree with the other Unilocalers that the ambience is nice at this venue. However I was somewhat disappointed by the food. My friend and I both were surprised after all the great Unilocal reviews to find that the food is only mediocre. Not sure I would return here. Fortunately the price was reasonable for lunch.

Let me start off by saying that Max Soha and Pisticci are both great, for different reasons. If you’re looking for good food and good atmosphere, most people would be fine at either establishment. Max Soha is a more cozy restaurant. It was full of people, conversation, and laughter. Though the service was just average, the food was pretty good, especially for the price. The pricing at Max Soha is VERY reasonable. My date and I shared a soup, had our own separate entrees, and shared a pumpkin tart for dessert… all for about $ 45, including tip. Bring cash for their cash only menu, it’s definitely worth the trouble of going to the ATM! Definitely get the pumpkin tart while they have it. Unlike most pumpkin dishes, they use just enough pumpkin spice to give a more mild flavor instead of the overpowering taste that usually fills desserts like pumpkin pies. The pairing with the ice cream was also perfect! We’ll probably flip a coin from now on to decide whether we’re going to Max Soha or Pisticci for Italian. They’re both great! Why not 5 stars? I received my pasta al dente, which I really don’t like. They should’ve asked. Regardless it was still a very tasty dish.

Max Soha has a pretty good menu of pasta and non-pasta options, at affordable prices. Don’t come here expecting really high-quality, authentic pasta though. The pasta quality is more like dining hall quality stuff. However, it’s still reasonably tasty, and it’s a fun venue to hang out.

I adore Max Soha for quiet dinners with friends. I’ve always gone on quieter times and past the dinner rush. The pasta is delicious and they serve a proper portion for what you pay for(not too much like big Italian chains). The servers have always been courteous and attentive. I can’t speak to how the restaurant gets during the dinner rush however. Bring cash and an empty stomach!

I miss this place. Good Italian and reasonably priced. Only drawbacks are that the place is pretty tiny and they only take cash.

I miss this place. A must stop when in NY… reminds me of a small mom and pop in Positano. The food is delicious and authentic. Home made, to order and fresh. Cash only

I had my 34th birthday here last night after rediscovering(not that I ever forgot) the excellence of Max Soha a few weeks ago while checking out a music event at the nearby Riverside Chapel. Five block solid stars again for its menu of authentic, unpedestrian entrees(both their standards and specials), fresh appetizers and salads, warm, dense, cheesy bread, but especially the service. I’d never been there with such a big crew — over half the party of SEVENTEENPEOPLE let me know they’d be joining throughout the very day of my birthday, so I kept breathlessly calling the place and demanding an extended reservation. The staff totally took it into stride, and expertly served all of us from start to finish, even cutting a wobbly, moist fruit tart from a different place into 17 perfect slivers so everyone could partake, and cueing up Sinatra’s The Way You Look Tonight as my squeeze walked towards me with it all lit up by candles. As a few of us lingered to shut the place down, the staff remained chill and gave us our space(though retrospectively they had to have been like LEEEAVE so we can clean up and rest after ALLTHATWORK). Then, one of the team put down a glass of red sangria(fruit filled, strong, and delicious) on the house and said, «Cheers, Happy Birthday.» I guess what I am saying is that this place has proven that it’s good not only for intimate catchups with friends or solo meals, but for large scale special events that you want to feel is conducted in the house you don’t own with meals you can’t cook yourself. Thank you, Max Soha, for helping me have the best birthday of my life(no exaggeration) and giving my motley crew of friends(many who didn’t know each other) a special environment in which to share the merriment. I’ll continue shouting your name from the mountaintops.

My husband and I eat here almost every Friday. Such a great spot. Very cozy and friendly with great food. Get the Tagliata. It’s amazing. If they have the sweet potato gnocchi on the specials menu, don’t think about getting anything else. Great wine bottle specials also. It’s cash only, so make sure that you stop off at an ATM before you come. Their coffee is great too, so make sure to stay for an after dinner treat.

This is my new favourite Italian place. I had the gnocchi. It had mozzarella balls hidden in amongst it. It was like Christmas. Amazing. My regular Italian place doesn’t seem all that good anymore compared to this. Dim lighting and a cosy atmosphere — perfect for the romantics. The staff were friendly and attentive.

Came here for the first time and tried the risotto special which was delicious! Their version of iced tea(w strawberry and orange juice) sounded good on paper and the wait or really sold me on it but when it arrived it tasted really watered down. For dessert I went with the Affogato, which is gelato with a shot(or two?) of expresso and it was great. It really woke me up from the food coma I was about to fall it. Their tiramisu looked great as well!

The nicest place in this area!!! Since I live near here I occasionally have lunch or dinner here. I always like Max Soha but today was exceptionally good! My parents visit me from Korea so I brought them to here. We ordered branzino, spinach ravioli and my all time favorite.(Alas, I don’t remember the name but it’s the last pasta menu. With seafoods and spicy tomato sause) Branzino was today special and it was cooked right. Not too salty and seasoned well. My parents were happy about the food. As usual, service was nice. Cash only is sometimes obstacle but i think still it’s worth going! Reql gem in moreningside heights
