Moonstruck

Two stars because the food is delicious. The one item they’re missing on their menu? Antibiotics. I’ve gotten sick twice here. I’m still going to eat here because eventually I’ll build immunity.

Good standard diner fare. Very surprised the average is so low for this place. The staff is friendly, and the food comes out quick. Matzo ball soup is delicious. Clean. Good value.

The place is okay — not the best according to NYC standards but it’ll do the job.
Second Ave is packed with delicious restaurants and eateries to the point that I would not recommend Moonstruck Diner compared to the other multitude of options. However, I wandered on the day of the first snowstorm in 2016. A friend and I were looking for a place to eat and, of course, all the places we wanted to check out were closed — I’m looking at you Pio Pio.
Moonstruck was the ONLY sit-​down place in the vicinity which was open. Props to you for surviving through the nasty weather! But it also makes me wonder how they had access to all that raw food to prepare dishes… hmmm. Anyway, I digress. We were seated in about 15 minutes and was impressed at how they managed the crowds.
The place is pleasantly decorated with interesting retro diner appeal to it. The booth tables were spacious for tables of 4 with café-​like seating towards the floor to ceiling windows in the front (for people watching).
The food is average. My burger came with just the bun and meat — no lettuce, tomatoes or cheese. That was a bit of a sour spot because even I could put hamburger meat on a bun at home. The salads on the other hand was full of yummy veggies and were a rather large portion. And of course, the place has a full bar for all of you alcoholics out there!

This place is really solid for takeout/​delivery. Classic diner dishes done well.

Best place to get drinks, Matt is the best bartender ever. He always serves my friend and I and we never have any issues. Always gave him a tip since he deserved it.

Ambience (and brunch menu) strives for cool and a bit up tempo. Blah, food is more like the hole in the wall diner w/​o owning it. Had bacon and eggs and they should have come off the grill at grill with a guy wearing the paper hat not at a glassed in corner.

Had soup + a salad, neither was particularly yummy but they were both fine. Just kind of standard (and th ingredients kind of felt, I don’t know, at odds.) It wasn’t super expensive (well, that salad was way more than it should have been) but I’ve paid the same for much better food. Maybe the rest of their menu is better– it’s worth a try– but I don’t feel any driving need to eat here again.

My girlfriend ordered the salmon sandwich. These geniuses had the audacity to serve cold tuna fish straight from the fucking can. IN THE SHAPE OF THE CAN. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Such a shameful lack of care. Never stepping foot inside ever again.

I came around 11:30 am today, (Saturday) sat down, got handed a menu, waited and waited, and did not get waited on, even when the place only had a few customers and plenty of staff. I know I didn’t look my best after breaking night in the hospital’s ICU but that doesn’t exempt me from respectfully being served. Miss the good ol’ diner. Walked from Beth Israel Hospital to end up disappointed. It’s a damn shame.

Great diner with great traditional American food. I got the eggs Benedict. The portions are large so bring your appetite

I typically hate diners. Why? Because I can cook better than most diner chefs, and therefore avoid diners at all costs.
This past Sunday though, I stopped here for some brunch on a double date. The reason we came here was because Café Orlin had a 40 minute wait and someone in the group had a job interview at 2:30 PM (we met up around 12:30 PM). My friend suggested this diner because she has been here before and apparently it has some history. She told me she loved this place because it satisfies random cravings at random hours. Good enough.
So the menu is typical of most diners — very large. The brunch is basically $ 15 for almost all dishes and you also get a plate of fruits, juice, and coffee/​tea — very good deal I think, typical of prices in the village. I think you can upgrade your juice to brunch cocktails at the price of $ 2 — seems great!
Food we ordered was typical brunch fair — we had eggs benedict w/​lox replacing ham x 2, chicken and waffles, and an omelet. Everything was pretty good, but not outstanding. It certainly is not café orlin but it’s definitely better than my usual expectations of diner food. Portions was definitely generous — I only had half of my dish (sacrificed the rest to the boyfriend).
Service was somewhat on the slower side, but our waiter was really nice. I am really surprised to see the low ratings at this place to be honest, because I think overall our experience was positive. I cannot comment on the rest of the menu, but this is a pretty good alternative to other brunch spots in the nearby area.

Both my water glass and my wine glass were dirty. The replaced both of them but I honestly feel the place has gone downhill. Will not come back.

I’m surprised by Moonstruck’s low average rating! We were here for brunch on Christmas day and it was bustling!
Though Moonstruck is a diner, it’s more hip and modern than an old-​fashioned diner. It’s super colorful inside, with cool colored tiles and a large aquarium.
The food was great and it came out pretty quickly. I had the 2 farm fresh eggs over hard with sausages and home fries. The boyfriend ordered the peasant omelette. Moonstruck offers generous portions, so be wary of that! I was pleasantly surprised to find that the sausages I ordered were larger than the measly links that are usually served in diners. The peasant omelette was also filled with toppings.
The service was pretty great– they weren’t hovering, but were able to be waved down easily for water refills and such.
All in all, it was a great experience, and a solid brunch location that I would return to when I’m feeling for some comfort food.

I’ve been ordering from this place for a couple of years now and all of a sudden today the manger/​woman who answers the phone decided to be so disrespectful and rude to me.
I placed an order at 6:00pm and didn’t receive it until 8:00pm. I work in the food and service industry and as a manager myself I would never allow for this!
As a returning customer for years, not only is this hurtful it is down right wrong. I will never order from moonstruck again. Odessa is just as good and they have a much friendlier staff.

All I wanted was more water.
Food: Greek wrap with chicken was rolled so loose that it fell apart upon picking it up. Matzo ball soup was lackluster, Caesar salad overdressed. Service was ambivalent.
Great morning light (which is why there are two stars here instead of one).

Been coming here for years now and it is my go-​to neighborhood diner. I usually don’t stray from the eggs benedict, but the menu is sooo extensive, so much food! Great breakfast, great sandwiches, staff is always friendly and on hand to refill your coffee or water. And the food always comes out quick! They just did a really nice remodeling job too and there is now a fully stocked bar, it looks great! Looking forward to grabbing a few beers and watching some games here… and then coming back the next morning to cure the hangover :)

Stopped here for a quick lunch in Manhattan while meeting up with some people who just arrived in from out of town. It was a week day afternoon.
The place had an overall clean atmosphere with some fun modern décor with a full bar. The menu was quite large, typical diner menu. I had one of the chicken sandwiches and it was pretty good. No complaints. I even managed to take half of my sandwich home because it was a pretty decent size. Prices were decent, nothing seemed over priced. Good lunch spot. We had good service but we were the only table present and got sat right next to the kitchen. That was a bit odd to me since there were great views of the street from any other part of the restaurant.
Decent lunch food, no complaints, nothing memorable.

This used to be a go-​to pickup and delivery place for me in the East Village. The service for calling in delivery is always good. And the staff for pickup is great. Moonstruck has added Seamless, so you can order online or via the app as well.
Since adding Seamless, food quality has dropped and food prices have risen. Has the management changed at the restaurant or did the cooking staff leave or are they using a new source for food? Why? Because the food quality is not good even for late-​night meal after a night at the bars.
The mac-​n-​cheese with bacon – the last two times I got – was terrible. Liquid-​y gloppy chunky, not smoothy and cheesy like it used to be. I thought the first time was just an off day. The second time I was like NEVER AGAIN.
They used to have bacon wrapped hotdogs. But that seems to be off the menu now and if you order it as a custom dish. It’s like 8 bucks before it was like 5.
The meatloaf sandwich used to be a late night protein bomb of meaty gravy goodness. Now it’s just the opposite. Really dry. A tiny tiny container of gravy. Makes me think that they are serving much older meatloaf now and not making it fresh.
Even the cheese fries aren’t as good. How is that possible at a diner?
They’ve removed most of the pastas that I enjoyed from their menu. After looking at Seamless, it seems like they have up-​priced everything but the quality has slid with worse ingredients. I don’t know what happened. This was a great greasy spoon diner with tasty caloric eats. Not it’s just greasy wither prices.
The staff is always great, but something has definitely happened to the food and oddly it happened as soon as Moonstruck started using Seamless. Not a good look. And sadly this is another east village eatery I can no longer support.

Only tried the breakfast and it was very average. It was also a bit pricy in terms that I payed almost 17 $ for a plate.
The portions are big and expect a lot on your plate, I’m yet to try some lunch or perhaps a late night meal.
Located in east village it’s in a great location and not too far from soho.

There is only one time to go here. When you’re drunk. And in these cases Moonstruck warrants the full five stars and then another five on top of that. I actually came here at approximately 3am on New Year’s Day with my best friend; if you asked me my opinion at that point in time I would have put Moonstruck’s mozzarella cheese sticks right up there with Masa.
Any other time that you aren’t blitzed — your taste buds numb from the excesses of alcohol — this place is a three star establishment if you’re dining in and a two star establishment if you’re getting delivery. The food isn’t that great but the waitstaff are really nice, hence the additional star for the dining in.
None of this matters right now though because the city of New York closed this diner location down for operating «illegal activities».
Do you know what that means to me? An additional star for illicit awesomeness! Obvi.

The kind of place where:
— thick slices of cooked ham are called prosciutto
— others patrons ramble the aisles drunk dancing, but no one seems to mind
— both doors of the restaurant are broken so they stay open anytime anyone enters or leaves, creating an awful draft in the middle of winter
— they advertise Unilocal discounts for check-​ins, but then say ’ yeah we don’t do that, long time we don’t do that.‘
Still, you can eat your bland, food anonymously while shivering, look down at the iridescent blue tiles on the tables, and not totally hate everything. You might even come back, despite your best intentions.

I came here last night based on the fiancée’s suggestion that she was craving some simple bland diner food. As per her title, we aren’t married yet but nothing says a relationship is fizzling out like a «let’s eat dinner at the diner tonight!.» Just kidding baby :).
We walked through the cold and when I got in we sat down at any open table available. The atmosphere is relaxed and the prices are reasonable for this part of town, but in terms of quality there are diners like Veselka or Odessa which are better 24 hour options.
The waiter provided good service, there was only a handful of patrons and he was quick to fill our water glass. I got a turkey sausage omelette with egg whites and the portion was sizable and hit the spot. The food tasted exactly how I expected, which is really why you come to these things in the first place.
