This is the Broadway bus serving Lower Manhattan; it runs downtown from 8th street and goes to South Ferry.(I don’t usually take it from above 8th street, where it’s a 5th avenue bus until it turns and heads down Broadway.) It’s the scenic route, and under most circumstances I prefer to take the subway – although there’s a stretch of a few blocks where I take the M5 to the Park Place subway to get the 2 or 3 to Brooklyn; it runs so frequently at midday and I have my unlimited MetroCard, that I feel vindicated in doing this. The uptown M5 goes up 6th avenue, and it’s worthwhile to take until you can transfer to the F train.

I wouldve given 2 stars to the M5, but I understand that its the longest route in manhattan, from the george washington bridge to the staten island ferry. Honestly the M5 should simply have its local and limited stop alternatives run simultaneously, run extra limited stops along bway/6 ave and riverside drive. It should also have its garage operations split between michael J quill depot on the west side, and its current depot at manhattanville depot in the neighborhood of the same name
