Great food. Good service. Had the assorted sashimi and there were two pieces(don’t know what) but could of ate those all day long and twice in Sunday. Not too many sake choices but the ones they had were tasty and very reasonable.

I ordered lunch delivery… it took 1.5 hours to arrive and the quality was NOT good at all. Mushy, fishy tuna.

The food was excellent, the service was good, the prices were good, and the space is gorgeous. Many reviews mention a no tipping policy. I don’t know when that changed, but at the bottom of my bill were suggested tips, 15%, 18% and 20%. The prices for lunch are reasonable, so it looked reasonable to leave a tip, so I don’t know where the idea came from that you shouldn’t leave one.

Nice omakase. The food is ok not bad at all but I was annoyed by how many times the waitress kept coming back to refill the sake cups. I can not tell how much I am drinking if they keep pouring before I drink it all. It’s really annoying but I know they do it to speed up the drinking so that customers would order more.

Our team came here for a short casual team lunch. Apparently goods and bads were both pretty obvious — Nara serves pretty authentic sushi courses(I liked my tuna roll) and kitchen food; however the wait was just incredibly long! I would suggest to make reservation even during lunch hours, and do spare some extra time for waiting.

Sent one of the partners at my firm them for lunch and he came back very happy. He said the sushi was good and it was cheap for NYC. They have a lunch special and he said for two people it was only $ 35. The portion of the lunch special is good as well. He said he didn’t leave hunger! The location is in the ground level of and office building but it is an interesting atmosphere. I am definitely going to try this venue and I will post pictures!

The location is a little odd — inside a mall lobby or hotel lobby or something like that, but very nice inside. The servers are really nice and attentive, but the food in general is just ok. We ordered a lot of different rolls, nigiri, sashimi and salads but nothing really stood out as amazing, and the sushi rice was a little hard and bland.

Amazing environment which is not crowded with a romantic atmosphere. Fantastic food with great looks and taste. Would not recommend the miso soup though. A little bit too far from the center of the city but close enough to have a walk near Central Park after dinner :)

It is a secret little place inside an office building lobby. Been for both lunch and dinner. Sashimi and sushi pieces are smaller than usual unfortunately. Tempura and desserts are well done.

I was in the area with my girlfriend looking for a place to have dinner. Stopped by this restaurant and was amazed by how fresh and tasty the sushi is. Its located inside a building, can easily be missed, but it’s definitely a hidden gem. The ambience of the place was very authentic, Japanese style. I ordered salmon sandwich and shirasu mentaiko pasta from the seasonal menu. The salmon was so buttery that it literally melted inside my mouth without chewing and the pasta was soooooooooo good! My partner had spider roll from the regular menu and she loved it too! The price is great considering for the amount and quality of food you get. The waiter was very friendly and helpful too. I would definitely come back to this place and try out some other dishes on the menu. Highly recommended!

I really couldn’t believe how this place got 4 or 5 stars. Long story short. I placed order a Chirashi bowl(cost me $ 30) on Saturday night and this is what I got(see picture below) First when I opened the bowl, I could smell like old fish. I’ve been sushi lover and I can tell something wrong here. The fish wasn’t cut with much care. Tamago(egg omelette) was by factory made. It wasn’t home made! Sushi rice completely didn’t have taste. The worst thing is unfresh fish was all over the rice! I pushed the bowl away… I couldn’t eat it at all. This place might have Japanese sushi chef. But it doesn’t make the restaurant great. Not even close ! I can tell this restaurant doesn’t much care what they serve to customers. I guess no passion. People, if you read this, turn away from this place. Reasonable price doesn’t give you extraordinary experience like what they said!

This place is a little confusing to find because it’s inside the building. It’s a really small but cute spot. The sashimi/sushi combination platter isn’t bad at all. Service was great as well.

Very efficient and inexpensive sushi option in Midtown. Stop by for lunch around 1:20PM and was immediately seated. The service was a bit slow but unlike in prior reviews I felt it was fine. I ordered the six piece sushi lunch which cost $ 15.24. They do not expect or take tips in this establishment so what you see is what you get in terms of the menu pricing. The sushi I would say was average to above average in terms of quality but for the price and convenience and location it is something that I would highly recommend if you’re in the area. You will definitely find better sushi and other places but this was adequate for my sushi craving today

Service was great. The servers are not going to ask you how your day is going, but they are attentive, refill water and tea quickly, and are quite easy to flag down. The sushi was also quite delicious. I got the scallop sushimi to start and eni tempura. Not the largest fan of the tempora, but the scallop was wonderful and my friends ordered the salmon avocado roll, which was simple and delicious. The one detriment was the fact our food came out incredibly spaced out. This would not have been and issue if we were splitting rolls, but because we were not, it was certainly odd. One roll came out at least 15 minutes before the others. HOWEVER, our server was incredibly concerned about this and I could see her asking about it several times. Loved our server, incredibly nice lady.

4 stars for food, 3 stars for service. I guess staff is not motivated because this restaurant compensates their employees so there is no need for tipping. This is how it should be, why is paying your employee unloaded to customers responsibility? Not like restaurants don’t make a profit. This practice in America should be abolished. .I hope Hillary can succeed in abolishing tipping in usa. I had flag down waiter to take finished empty plates off my table, I had to ask them to refill water, you have to ask for everything. . Food was very good from aps to desserts. All the sushi chefs are Japanese. I will def come back..

We came to this restaurant twice in the last 3 weeks. The fish taste very good. The selection and quality are comparable with what you could get from Hatsuhana or Yasuda. But I think this restaurant is still trying to figure out their direction. I saw chawanmushi and oysters on the Unilocal photos posted 3 – 4 months earlier, maybe when they first opened. Now I don’t see that on their menu. The first time we ordered sashimi deluxe, we got 6 kinds of fish. But last night we only got 5 kinds. Fluke sashimi appetizer was in a different presentation, though I think it’s art. Not sure whatever changes we are going to see, if we come back next time. I have no doubt with their food and freshness. Service was decent. I can tell they make an effort to improve. The only complain is about the consistency. Can the restaurant have standard agreed among chefs? For example, Hatsuhana, Yasuda and other Chinese sushi always have it written on the menu how many firsh you can get. Customers don’t want to come back and see they got less amount of food each time. It was a bad surprise, though we’re a fan and really want Nare to survive.

Food is pretty good. We came for lunch, lunch special has a good value, one entrée with a small salad or soup, also comes with a roll. The fried chicken is pretty good, so tender, I got the eel avocado roll, pretty good too and fresh. Atmosphere is nice, relaxing. Service wise, need some improvement, since it’s no tip restaurant, I guess there is nothing too much to complain about. Food 5 star, service 3 star, 4 star as general.

This place is awesome for lunch! Had chicken teryaki, salad,(or you can get miso soup) salmon roll! All for $ 15 what a bargain! Also note that is note that is not on the menu, all sushi here is made the traditional way with wasabi inside the roll. So if you aren’t a big wasabi fan make sure to say without wasabi! Highly recommend if you’re in the midtown east area!

This is my new favorite sushi restaurant in Midtown! The value, freshness, and authenticity are unbeatable. I had 3 rolls(including one ‘deluxe’ roll), soup, and half a desert, and I left with a bill of less than $ 35. Fantastic for dinner! All of the sushi is incredibly fresh and flavorful. I particularly loved their eel avocado roll here– a relatively basic sushi roll that can sometimes go awry when the eel isn’t fresh. The ambiance is upscale, complete with high end place settings that include nice(non-disposable, non-plastic) chopsticks, bamboo boards for sushi, and a cute mini pot to hold the soy sauce. I can’t wait to go back and try more of their menu!

For the price, it was good value for my lunch. I ordered the sashimi-sushi combination for $ 17 and green tea as my beverage. What a deal! The ambience was nice. I sat by the bar I front of 4 sushi preparers. The two on the left were working hard quietly like a usual Japanese sushi place. But the two on my side were engaged in conversations with the younger one who seemed to be aggravated — sort of banging on the counter while making the sushi. A little bit distracting if we the clients are irritating or he is disgruntled in his job. Not good aura while you are eating. My sushi was good except for the behavior of 1 to distract my appetite.
