This is kind of my new favorite place. Funky music not too loud. Try the Mussel Toast!

Mega disappointment. The vibe is generally cool here but tonight a place that’s been under hear for losing their chef acted very snooty when they weren’t full. Example 1 — A coat I put on a bar seat for a minute to organize something — was told ‘we have some guys coming in for that seat so move your stuff.’ Btw no one came in entire hour we were there for those seats. Example 2 — we asked for bread with a ricotta dish. They apparently don’t do bread but may have some. Yes they found some wonder bread like substance. Example 3– a ramps special had almost 12 ingredients that made absolutely no sense together with no flavor and greens impossible to sort out how to properly eat. Overall the air was off putting and for no reason. I want to love navy. But we went to Charlie bird for dinner after dinner at navy.

I visited Navy for dinner with my girlfriend, and eager to look adventurous and well traveled in the early days of our relationship I opted for the charred octopus salad, and a few different kinds of crudo. The octopus wasn’t chewy like I’d had at other restaurants(namely some Korean joints that I’ve been to where octopus is some kind of big deal), but instead really tender. We both also had the Salmon for the main course, which was flawlessly prepared as well. Servers were knowledgable and friendly, able to answer all of the questions that we had about the menu and to help us pick out a bottle of wine. The dining room is a bit on the smallish side, but still comfortable. The prices aren’t cheap, but still worth it considering the caliber of the food and the location

Came here for a quick bite after a gallery showing. Nice modern décor and easy to sit without a reservation. We ordered 2 dishes to share. Duck confit salad, and a fish entrée(forgot the specifics). Both were delicious, especially the duck. Some people complain about the small serving size. We felt like it was pretty fair, although we certainly didnt leave stuffed. Cocktails were nice as well. I’ll likely come back and give it another go. –Andy

I love everything about this cute neighbourhood café. The place is extremely pretty which means a lot these days. I think it is important to think design into every aspect which Navy does. I ate a brilliant lunch here. The quinoa crisp($ 16) is probably some of the best stuff I have eaten for a long time. Seriously amazing. It is served with a poached egg, chorizo sausage, creole mayo and market greens; this day a simple kale salad with the most perfect dressing. The dish was so in balance with every taste. The service was absolutely perfect too. Relaxed and friendly yet professional and attentive. I could not ask for more. Do yourself a favor; stop by Navy very soon. The place is beautiful, the food is stunningly delicious and the service perfect. Finally you will experience the most relaxed and cozy atmosphere. Go, go, go…

The food here is absolutely outstanding. I came here on a slow week night with my boyfriend and we ordered a few appetizers to start and the burger(off menu) to share. Each thing tasted better then the next. Something went wrong, and the burger took a really long time to come out, but the server was kind enough to remove it from the bill. I will say I remember the staff uniforms were a bit odd.

Very disappointing experience. Went there yesterday with a girlfriend. Used to come for lunch and like this place. We had 3 plates. Crudo which was average. Then we order cioppino and when the plate arrived we Thought was a joke. They called this a main course, You basically pay 28 dollars for 1 shrimp, 5 – 6 clams a bunch of chickpeas and a bread crostino. We order then pappardelle with Ragu, the pasta arrived with no meat at all, completely served in a white sauce. $ 21 for a plate of pasta with no meat. I really felt sad.

Had a great meal at this small and atmospheric restaurant. All the food was good to excellent, with the standout being the most delicious crudo as a starter. The wine list was solid — we thoroughly enjoyed an Albarino from Rias Baixas which complemented the food well and was reasonably priced by NYC standards. My two slightly negative observations was that the food came too quickly — we were out of there in less than 90 minutes — and the GF options were limited because quite a few of the dishes had bread or toast: a simple solution would be to keep some decent GF bread in the freezer.

Came to this quaint Soho venue for a friend’s surprise birthday party. The lighting was warm and the music was at a perfect pitch(i.e., loud enough to add to the ambiance but quiet enough for conversations to take place with ease). I arrived a bit early so decided to have a drink at the bar while I waited. I was served by a very cool bartender named Lizzie who provided great service. She made the first drink of what was to be a long night of delicious libations and spectacular food. It was a Sullivan Storm from the list of specialty cocktails. I also had a Green Smash but the Storm ended up being my go to drink for most of the evening(Try it if you end up visiting). Fast-forward a few drinks, more friends, and numerous conversations later, plates of appetizers begin to arrive so it was here where I detoured briefly to have wine with the meal. Because we were a large party our menu was a number prix-fixe menu options. The food was tasty and everyone commented on how well prepared everything was. I had a steak prepared medium-rare which blended well with my Côte du Rhone. The restaurant was literally empty when I arrived and packed when we were all leaving so it appears to be quite a local favorite. Thank you Navy for hosting a spectacular birthday dinner! I’ll see you again soon!

I NEVER write reviews. For the most part, all my NY dining experiences have been good enough to not have to. But Navy was definitely the exception. I have been looking forward to go to Navy for a few months. We finally pulled the trigger made a reservation and are so disappointed we did. The food was terrible. Ordered a dozen oysters all which were fishy in taste. Had a scallop crudo appetizer that was sandy! Had the tilefish as a main course and it had bones in it! The best part was I told them there was a bone in my fish and they asked me to place the bone in a plate and they walked away! In conclusion, we are out $ 260 and were starved for the rest of the evening. Note to the kitchen: Wash your scallops, source better oysters, and filet your fish carefully! Never going back.

My, how second impressions can differ from firsts. I was all set to give Navy an unfavorable review, but after having the deliciously deliteful quinoa crisp entrée at lunch the other day(the first time), I’ve completely fallen in like with this dainty, jazzy and purely lovable time warp restaurant and my newly restored ability to pick good places on the fly. Perhaps it’s because the long winter dreariness has been taken over by sunshine that I couldn’t stop smiling. I felt that my foodie magic returned as soon as I read the getting-ready-for-summer-friendly dish on Navy’s vegetarian-friendly but sparse lunch menu. And when it came to our table, it was a lot prettier than I’d imagined. Never been served quinoa like that! A pretty mahogany brown square of delicious, wholesome and fun-to-eat crispiness with a soft, runny egg sitting on top and flavorful whitefish on the side. Well versed in texture, flavor and originality, this dish could easily be rated five-star worthy, even with the just ok side«salad». But the wine wasn’t great twice! I went back the other day(my third time) and ordered – along with my quinoa crisp for a second taste because I couldn’t stop thinking about it – a drunken bellini but got an almost sober mimosa in a tinker bell juice glass. So needless to say I’ll be ordering iced tea for my next two hour lunch at my favorite color named, speak-easy-ish, teeny tiny and now usually jam-packed eatery.

Service was good. Food was decent. I wish they had the uni toast that I came here for. Food: Scallop ceviche — delicious Rock shrimp — OK; we were expecting the shrimp to be bigger Gnocchi — good; on the heavier side

No wait on a Sunday afternoon? I’ll take it! Was in the area one recent morning in desperate need of brunch and I really didn’t want to wait two and a half hours to get it. Navy delivered pretty well. We were seated immediately and ordered quickly: veggie pancake with smoked salmon and poached eggs for me, avocado toast with poached egg for my friend. The food was AMAZING. The only downside? It took a solid hour to be cooked/delivered to the table, and the place wasn’t even that busy when we ordered. We asked a waiter about 45 minutes in and he was decent at updating us, but overall I was pretty annoyed. This was diminished by how delicious the food was, however — I’ve never tasted a better veggie pancake, and it came with a slew of interesting additions: smoked salmon, some kind of pickled veggie and this amazing poppyseed sauce. They have some interesting menu items — mussel toast, egg and quinoa bowls to name a few. And to be fair, I’d much rather wait for my food seated, coffee in hand, than to be saddled with an hour-plus wait for a table. Other than the wait, I loved Navy and will definitely be back.

Came here on a Tues for lunch with a couple of friends. No wait. Our server was attentive and checked on us often. I had fish tacos that had lentils and a salsa on top. So delicious! The fish had a ton of flavors and the lentils were a tasty twist! Only con: it is a bit pricey for the amount of food you’re served. The décor is great! Service is great! Bathrooms are cool! Random I know, but it had to be noted! It was a good place but I don’t know that I would DEFINITELY go back with the amount of great restaurants out there.

This intrepid new West Village restaurant is dishing out some seriously daring sea-food centric eats. With a trendy, health-conscious lunch selection and a pretty cutting-edge dinner menu, Navy’s positives generally outweigh its negatives. I first came here for lunch and had this really beautiful salad with poached chicken, egg, and radishes. It was perfectly dressed and very good. Everyone around me was either having avocado toast or this nice egg bowl, both of which looked amazing. Just last night I came here for dinner and, while it was perhaps not the best meal my girlfriend and I have had recently, it did boast a few awesome surprises. The Mussel Toast, for instance, was excellent as was a tuna crudo dish served with bits of yellow peach and dashi. A chili octopus dish with caramelized cauliflower, deep fried whole octopus, and poached tentacle was very solid as well. The much-touted trout en croute was kind of so-so with this overly creamy mint sauce that seemed destined for a lamb dish in a dated midtown restaurant. The trout itself was well cooked but the puff pastry on top was somewhat charred/bitter. We also had an ok hierloom tomato side. But Navy’s biggest fault has got to be the PARSLEY. Holy Moly does the chef here love parsley. There was seriously abundant parsley on every dish we had except for the tomato side and the trout, though I think even that had some parsley in the sauce. Some other reviews have mentioned this but woah. But look, parsley aside, the service here is amazing, the bartender is amazing, the food tastes generally excellent, and you can get dishes at Navy that most chefs couldn’t even conceive of. The ambiance/décor is also absolutely awesome. So yeah, some major faults but still a restaurant any NYC food fiend should check out.

I have heard much acclaim and praise for this small new West Village restaurant over the past few months, but only finally got around to trying it for lunch and ended up having quite a tasty meal. The lunch menu looked more fun to me, which is why I initially didn’t seek out a dinner reservation. At lunch, though you do miss out on the dessert options, you do have the fortune of being able to try the breakfast options on display at the little café counter near the front. It’s a pretty small menu from which we tried just a few selections: — Croissant($ 3) Not on the menu but available up front, this was an excellent croissant. It was huge and perfectly buttery and flaky. — Avocado Toast($ 10) This was the first taste of the major problem I had with the food here: parsley. The toast looked beautiful, with a good amount of creamy avocado and decorative radishes. Once I tasted it though, all I could taste was the overpoweringly bitter parsley. I can’t remember the last time I ate parsley in a restaurant(maybe never?) and can’t wait to forget this one. — Egg Bowl($ 14) Normally something I wouldn’t order(read: vegetarian), I wanted to try this because it was one of the most frequently mentioned dishes here in reviews and other social media posts I came across. It was pretty tasty, with the runny egg coating the whole dish of vegetables and grains. But damn — hidden among those greens was that parsley again. Attempting to pick it out, the rest of the dish was ok, but a little bland. — Braised Chicken Sandwich($ 14) Now this was really incredible and completely saved the meal. Served on a soft, delicious roll, it was piled high with plenty of juicy chicken and some creamy avocado. This was really delicious, but I already see on the latest menu that it has been replaced by a Cheeseburger, which also sounds quite intriguing. The space itself is really cool, with a few really nice booths near the front, and a completely open façade, making for a breezy atmosphere in the good weather. The menu isn’t quite varied enough to really entice me to return though, especially after a few items that were just ok.

KenScale: 8.0÷10 Navy is a new restaurant in SoHo from chef Camille Becerra, a former Top Chef contestant, focusing on seafood(not surprising given its name). I have heard a lot of good vibe going on at the restaurant and finally paid a visit recently. Overall, I was pretty satisfied with the quality of dishes coming out from this restaurant. The menu at the restaurant changes daily in handwritten notes. I started out with several seafood appetizers. Black bass crudo with apple, avocado and yogurt was a pretty tasty bite. I was also a huge fan of mussel toast with caper aioli and cornmeal dough, as well as sepia ala plancha that came with fennel and pickled honey mushrooms. All of their flavor was very well-balanced without being heavy, and the texture of each seafood was great as well. For main dishes, I went with whole trout en croute and duck breast. Trout was well-cooked and its flavor was great. While duck breast was just a little bit over-salty, I did really like the texture of the meat, which worked very well with the salad of bamboo and bulgur. For dessert, chocolate mousse was a delightful dish that was not overly sweet to my liking. The restaurant has a very charming neighborhood vibe, and I highly recommend it for a date spot. Getting a reservation wasn’t particularly challenging(I booked a table for two about several days in advance without much problem). The restaurant has a full bar with a compact list of wines and cocktails. I’ve really been a fan of restaurants with tiny and cozy dining rooms that are, at the same time, offering high level of culinary sophistication, and Navy definitely fits that profile.
