My husband took my son in here based on reviews and not sure who cut his hair but they did a terrible job ! The barber cut the sides way above his ears, such an odd style and even the other kids in my sons class have noticed and made fun of him. My husband had even told the barber not to go too high above his ears and yet he cut good half inch above them, very disappointing and unprofessional . Will never go back and my poor kid is dying for his hair to grow back asap

I usually don’t post reviews but I was satisfied with my haircut so I have to share. I’ve had my fair share of bad haircuts from barbers and I have haircut anxiety. Been hopping place to place to find the best one. I’m glad I came across this one. I was approached my Eddie. He was very friendly and did exactly what I wanted. I had showed him a pic of what my hair used to look like and got it spot on. I’ll definitely be going there again for him!

Started going to Eric over ten years ago and have been meaning to write this review since my first visit. Not only does he have serious skills with scissors and clippers, he’s a great guy, too. Call ahead and make an appointment if you want to sit in his chair, though, as he’s got a pretty loyal following(myself included).

I only get to NYC about twice a year, but from now on I’ll be getting my haircut here every time I’m in town. Al did a better job than I could’ve expected and was extremely professional in the process. Best haircut I’ve had for a long time. Fast, efficient, courteous, no frills, and very reasonably priced. If you want a guys haircut, this is the place.

Great cut by Eddie. Described what I wanted and he nailed it. Went there once before and showed him a pic and he got that right too. Haircut costs $ 16 so I always just give him a $ 20. Great cut at an awesome price.

A great cut at a great price. All of the barbers put a lot of care and attention into giving an excellent haircut, even when the place is a little crowded.

Truly pleased with Neighborhood Barber, after using the clown car that is The Cut one block south on 7th for a year. I’ve been about a half dozen times so far. The skinny: + $ 16 hair cut(I always tip $ 5 too) + Scissor cuts: they know how to do them well + Efficient: these are professionals and you’re in and out quickly + Nice cut These men are all professional and adults. No mindless small talk if you don’t want it. Fair price for a great hair cut. There is always a small wait for a good reason here.

This place is my go-to. I’ve been consistently going to Mike for months now. I love that they’re open most of the time, not mentioning incredible skills in whatever haircut you want. Check it out!

I go here for fades from Boris. He’s precise and diligent and asks all the write questions –BEFOREHAND. He probably has had enough clients to know when someone isn’t giving enough direction. Go here for Boris. He is the man, and he’s the reason you’re going to wait for a legit, cheap haircut. He should probably just open his own place, honestly. And he can do straight razor stuff as well. Today, I stopped by to trim my beard and neck. Mike was the barber. I gave him simple directions. A number 3 on the beard so it wasn’t as thick, and a razor underneath and above the beard. Well, he didn’t just straighten the lines at the top of the beard. He lopped off like a quarter inch from the top! WTF! So now, I have like this weird in-between of a beard and a chin strap. Sure it’ll grow back, but next time, I’ll think twice about casually deciding to get a basic beard trim because how could it go wrong? And then someone goes ahead and proves you wrong. Seriously man, no apologies for callin’ you out either. Get on top of your game! Ask for more directions. Be more precise. Hair can be a matter of a half inch or a cm or mm. A trim doesn’t just mean a snip here or there or you doin’ whatever you want.

I have been going here for years, always a good cut and a fair price. That being said… DONOTGETSTRAIGHTRAZORSHAVEDBYTHEGUYFURTHESTFROMTHEDOOR. He absolutely butchered the back of my neck, it’s now bleeding and raw. I have no idea how someone could shave like that. I hate to give a terrible rating, but I can’t really recommend a place that leaves you bloody. Totally unacceptable.

Don’t usually write subpar reviews but feel compelled to. I’d been here once before and had Greg. Was a pretty positive experience but I read so many good reviews about Boris that I wanted to give him try. Shame on me. I showed him a pic and explained how I liked hair but he either didn’t listen and just yes me or he just doesn’t know what he’s doing. He went on to chop up me up and before I knew it, my trim turned into a full blown uneven very short crop. Very disappointed. If I go here again, I’ll just go back to Greg, who kept it simple.

Great guys, great cut, unbeatable price. No gimmicks like a beer hand out, etc. This is the joint; Boris is the man.

Verdict: Fantastic. I just got my fade done with Eddie and it was easy, quick, and clean. The cut took about 20 minutes Quick & Dirty: Generally, it looked like all the barbers knew what they were doing and it was all business. Eddie was to the point and paid attention to the details. Cost: $ 16 for the fade, $ 4 for tip because Eddie deserves it. Total: $ 20 all in. Wait Time: Technically the doors open at 10AM, but I arrived at 9:55AM and waited 10 minutes because there were 3 other clients already being taken care of before 10AM. My hair grew out for about 2 months so work had to be done. Definitely high value place and I will go back for sure. It’s $ 8 for refreshing your cut.

Boris knows what’s good. You should let him cut your hair. He’ll take a good half hour to do it and ask you for $ 16 aka $ 20, which is both fair and convenient.

This place is unbelievable. I came here to see Eric but he was busy and I ended up getting service with his other master. And it seems like they are all masters of their craft. No matter who you’d end up getting service with. Great service!!!

As it turns out, most East Village barber shops are closed on Yom Kippur, which meant I had to try somewhere new for a haircut. Luckily, there seems to be a surplus of great barbershops in the neighborhood, so I had a number of good fallbacks. There was a short wait for a haircut, mainly because some customers ahead of me were getting a full shave as well of a haircut. After sweating it out for 20 minutes or so(new barbers = intense hair anxiety), I got into the chair, described what I wanted, and before I knew it I was out the door. Maybe it felt a little bit rushed, but mostly it felt like the barber cutting my hair knew exactly what he was doing. A few sweeps over with the clippers and scissors and voila, a pretty great haircut! And for $ 16, it felt like a steal. Although — unlike another neighborhood joint, Ace of Cuts, they don’t offer you free booze with your cut. So, I’ll happily come back here at a moments notice, but I’ll probably keep trying other spots nearby as well.

My guy from the nearby Blind Barber left for pastures sandier(Los Angeles) and with his departure, brought along a year and a half of knowledge on my hair needs. As such, I was in the market for a new cut. And after this visit to Neighborhood Barber, I’m still in the market. I wish I could rate them much higher and I wish I could’ve called this my new spot. But my guy, Sam, didn’t really take much time to listen to the cut I want. I showed him photos of what I was looking for and he nodded in presumable understanding. The length was fine and honestly, the cut itself isn’t terrible. It really isn’t. However, I’m used to the ‘professional’ techniques of texturing the top, a clean blend to the top and scissors on the side. But as someone noted in a previous review, they really do want to give a «real haircut» and he basically buzzed everything. Am I a bit picky on my haircuts? Definitely. Do I deviate towards a bit more of a «bourgeoisie» hair treatment? Probably. Do I have a difficult style? Absolutely not. Again, maybe I had the wrong guy because the reviews are glowing and the price very affordable — and I can admittedly see the appeal — but I’ll be back out looking for a new place.

I live in Hell’s Kitchen. Neighborhood Barber is practically in Alphabet City — on 9th between 1st and A. And for the last six years, I’ve been going to Neighborhood Barber. That’s saying something. No appointment needed. $ 16 Haircut. Reviewed in high-end men’s magazines. And with good reason. Expect a wait during busy times. I’ve always walked out with a a great cut every time — ask for Boris, Eddie, or Greg.

Best barber in New York no question. Guys are friendly and the cuts are great. You might have to sit and wait for 5 or 10 minutes but its always worth it. Been coming here since college and I’ll never go anywhere else Don’t forget to tip!
