New Amsterdam Drug Mart

Some things never change… and in the case of the New Amsterdam Drug Mart, that’s a good thing. Since my first post about them a year ago, they have consistently provided the following
Prompt prescription refills by phone or in person
Reminder calls when prescriptions are due
Accurate filling of prescriptions
But it’s really the people that make New Amsterdam Drug Mart such a 5-​star spot in my book. Everyone who comes in is treated with great warm and kindness and in more than one language when necessary!
I feel lucky indeed that I have such a fabulous local resource.
You need to experience it to know what I’m talking about. Take your next prescription there and you’ll see what I mean.

Wow. I have never been treated with such disrepect by the pharmacist from New Amsterdam on the phone just now. I would recommend to everyone to take your care elsewhere. They have no reason to be talking to people with such contempt. Stay away

If you are in need of durable medical supplies this is the mart for you! Specifically Columbo is AMAZING! He is knowledgeable, helpful, kind and patient. I am sorry I had my accident and was in need of a roll-​about, but I am grateful that I found Columbo and New Amsterdam Drug Mart!

The only pharmacy I go to get my prescriptions filled for the last 10 years. The staff, especially Neal (like someone else mentioned here in their review) is the guy to go to– he is the tall fella with the pony tail because is not only extremely accommodating, but very fast, knowledgeable and has a wonderful sense of humor too.
This type of service is a lost art now a days with all the big chains around, so if you want to be treated like a human being, and not be scoffed at for asking a few questions, this is the place to go.

This store really warmed my heart. The staff there gave me efficient, well-​informed care with warmth. I was very impressed with how well stocked it was. I will continue to use it only. Upper west siders need to know of this place!

We recently had reason to go to New Amsterdam for some post surgery supplies and they could not have been nicer and more helpful. Not only did they have the items we needed at the time, they delivered two items when they said they would; when one item was slightly late in being delivered, the manager called us to apologize – amazing service! Not only that but they also expertly installed an item as well. It is nice to know we have a great neighborhood pharmacy which is committed to providing customers great personal service – thank you to Columbo and his staff!

Nice and convenient, but the girls got to work on their customer service. a bit ghettoish!

I recently moved into the city with a few friends and New Amsterdam was recommended to me.
It’s a small place attached to a bunch of stores so I almost didn’t see it, but this place is like most other «hole-​in-​the-​wall» places — surprisingly AWESOME!
Though I have not gotten any prescriptions (i don’t get sick much, knock on wood), I found the staff behind the counter to be very helpful. I don’t use a lot of medication, otc or rx, so I decided to pick the brain of one of the men behind the counter for some info. Not only was this man helpful, he was funny! They were all funny and so nice! Though I was only about to catch the name of the one who helped me — NEAL, I’m sure I will learn all their names in time :)
Not looking forward to getting sick anytime soon, but if I do, I know where to go! :)

This place is awesome. I work on the UES and whenever I need any prescription filled I head over here to the UWS! The guys that work there are funny and always answer my medicine questions. I’ve never had to wait a long time to get prescriptions filled and you don’t get ripped off like you do in other places. I will always come back and I recommend to anyone to joke around with the people that work there, you won’t regret it!

My experience here was horrible. I was on a very tight schedule that day and when i walked in the girl at the front was on her cellphone chatting it up and left me standing in an empty drugstore for about 10 mins before she acknowledged me. Then everyone jumped on the chatting it up bandwagon and still pushed me aside not acknowledging a customer was getting aggitated. when i finally made a statement that i was on a time restraint an older man in about his 50’s with a ponytail started to mock me saying «hurry she has to catch a train to boston». I personally was going thru some issues that day and ive worked in customer service for 7 yrs instead of feeling better after leaving this drug mart i felt angry and bothered the man with the ponytail made me feel so bothered and mocked, i began to cry a little bit and when he noticed this he said to me with a grin «Do you need some water?» «you should drink alot of water» in a sarcastic tone. When that was over i then asked one of the «professionals» about my medication, no one gave me a straight answer until a dark skinned man told me to take one of the medications first which when looking at the name suspected he was wrong and surely enough when i called my doctor he was wrong. How can a Pharmacist give the wrong information on medication. the one he told me to take first was actually the one i was supposed to take just in case i get side affects from the primary medication. Medicine is not something to joke about. So all in all this place was the most Unprofessional place ive ever been too, i just moved around there and i will make sure i let anyone who comes around me know about my experience.

Kind and attentive people behind the counter, quick service and no BS all make New Amsterdam Drug Mart a great place to go. For the same prescription to be filled at Duane Reade you could wait for over an hour… unlike the normal 10 – 15 minutes here.
