I would say my first mistake was shopping for offers on my items in the diamond district. That being said, Liberty Pawn was definitely the rudest and most condescending of them all. While I did not expect top dollar for my items(I was selling a like new Cartier watch and a sealed top of the line 201515″ MacBook pro) I expected common courtesy amongst businessmen. As a small business owner, I don’t immediately ask how much a client wants for an item and roll my eyes when they ask for an offer. When the offer is astronomically low(which it was at liberty pawn) and I counter with what I know I can get for the item, both of the owners scoff and speak amongst themselves in what appeared to be Albanian or Russian(not sure nor do I care). That’s fine, this is America, you are more than welcome to pass on the watch, I sold it on ebay for almost double their offer. When they ask how much for the macbook and i respond, again scoffing was received and one states«No we wait for the bozos to come in and sell them for $ 500». Nowhere have I ever referred to my customers in a derogatory manner, but that seems to be commonplace here. I unlike these«bozos» did not need to sell my items for such astronomically low prices, but I hope this review helps those«bozos» to search elsewhere or sell independently as you will net almost 80% more. As for their pawn practices, I would assume they are fine as they are regulated by the state, but I have no first-hand experience with that.

I recently found myself in need of a short term loan. A friend suggested I look at pawn shops a fast and easy way to get this done. All I had to do was bring in some valuables as collateral and walk away with cash. I never used a pawn shop before and didn’t know of any personally so I looked for one in midtown Manhattan. That’s how I found New Liberty Loans. I gave them a call. The woman who answered was very friendly and explained how it works. I told her I had jewelry and electronics to secure a loan. She said to simply bring them in and they would review everything on the spot. Their office is easy to find. It’s just a few steps from the subway station at 47th and 6th Ave. in the diamond district. You’ll see their sign on the street level guiding you up one flight of stairs to their office. The first thing you will notice is that the office has been around a long time based on the décor. You won’t find guitars and other items on display like you might have seen on television. Most property is kept nearby in a secure location. Here you will find the receptionist and the owners — Roni and his father. It’s a family business. I usually deal with Roni although is father is sometimes there when he us busy. You will be greeted by one or two polite and friendly young women who will help when you initially walk in. These are the women you spoke to on the phone. They will review your items and ask you to provide basic information with a form of ID. Once they have all this, they will introduce you to Roni who is usually in the office straight ahead as you walk in. Roni will meet with you to review your items. He will ask what how much you would like to borrow. Based on your items, he will make you an offer and review the terms for paying the loan back which of course includes interest. The sooner you pay it back, the less you pay. He or one of his assistants my verify the value of your items as well. They will check purity of gold and weigh it in front of you for example or call someone who may have specific knowledge about your item. Once this is done, his assistants will prepare a standard agreement(it’s all regulated by the state) which you will sign. The agreement lists your items, amount of the loan, interest amount and payment schedule. Yours items will then be placed into plastic envelops which are sealed and marked with you information. You then sign the envelope and receive cash. The way it works is simple: make interest payments as agreed then get your items back when you pay off the amount of the loan. If for some reason you default, they keep your stuff. I found Roni and his staff very helpful and friendly. They will call and remind you if you have a payment due which you can make by cash or credit(small fee) via phone. I had some anxiety about the whole process when I first visited since I hadn’t done it before. Since then, I’ve been back a few times. This is clearly a family business that values personal relationships. That’s important to me for this type of service and one of the main reasons I’ve gone back.

Very professional and hard working people, very good and fast service. Roni was very nice and personable to me and all the clients. But most of all, best prices in the market. I don’t need to go anywhere else or look for another pawn. Highly recommended.
