I created a Unilocal account just to write this review for Ogawa. My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this tiny sushi restaurant. The Sushi is very good, especially for the incredibly affordable prices. What I love about Ogawa is their service. They are some of the nicest restaurant employees/owners I have ever had the pleasure of giving business to. My girlfriend has Celiac disease and they are incredibly accommodating(sashimi is all she can eat at most non-elite sushi restaurants but Ogawa can make every roll gluten free). I really have never written a Unilocal review before but I’ve never experienced service like I have at Ogawa and felt compelled to share. Highly recommend

Sushi-san Lin and his wife Yoyo run this east Village sushi and Japanese food restaurant. As a sushi fanatic, I can honestly say that for the price this is by far the best sushi in New York City. Therefore, Ogawa provides dramatic bang for your buck. Add to the tasty food their truly excellent service and you have a clear winner, one in which sushi lovers will be both satisfied and satiated. If you want a wonderful Japanese meal at a great price, look no further!

Ehh. Nothing to rave about or even come back to. Tried multiple rolls… All dry, uninspiring.

It is often said that a Japanese restaurant’s miso soup is the standard upon which to pass judgment. Ogawa’s is a smoky, full-bodied soup, with a raspy voice and a penchant for half truths and white lies. It’s the kind of thing you plunge into, like a lake at midnight after the water has turned ink black and you can no longer see the bottom. It is that enveloping. This is a friendly, tiny place on the edge of main NYU campus that I’ve been passing for 20 years and finally ordered takeout today. The raw fish on a Monday(closed Sunday) was exceedingly fresh. Portions of sashimi are not generous but more than adequate, especially for the price. The eel and avocado sushi was very good, drizzled very lightly with sauce and not sodden. I will be ordering from here again, will probably try the very affordable lunch special within the next week. Person on the phone was very nice, delivery was speedy(20 min) and although the delivery guy was surly, he had just climbed 4 flights of stairs. Next time I will ask for extra ginger as you get very little. One minor quibble: why was my sashimi served on a bed of parsley? Ugh. I actually like and eat the shredded daikon and carrot.

Nice Restaraunt. The staff is always friendly. There is a $ 15 minimum for credit cards. I just wish it was next door to my home! I’d never leave! It’s small am cozy, right off the beaten path so you don’t get that crazy lunch rush folks.

Somethings fishy here and it aint the sushi. I can’t believe so many people don’t know the difference between good sushi and terrible sushi. Just because it didn’t make you sick doesn’t mean it’s fresh. The chicken curry donburi was just yellow curry shaken over a plate of stir-fried chicken with rice. The tonkatsu was a dry, flat, piece of ambiguous meat. A McDonald’s chicken tender tastes better. I’m not saying no one should go to ogawa café, but don’t expect anything close to what their Unilocal rating might portray.

The small restaurant doesn’t look like much, but the chef was superb at his work. Granted, I only had the veggie rolls so I wouldn’t know how the fish sushi tastes, but the chef seemed talented. And the food is veeeeery affordable.

My favorite sushi restaurant in all of Manhattan. Jin & Yoyo are the greatest people in the world & make you feel like you’re having dinner at an old friends house. The sushi is amazing. The specials are always on point. Super fast, super fresh — just the best. Definitely get the spicy salmon with yellowtail.

Decent, fresh sushi at very good prices. Their lunch specials are a great deal, but keep in mind that their rolls are a bit smaller than usual. Both delivery and pick up are always speedy and the staff here is friendly and efficient.

Cute little restaurant. Great service, fast and efficient, either if you eat there or take away. Maybe not the best sushis ever in town but a great option if you re searching for some. They have a really large choices of rolls, some are better than others(recommending the lobster roll if you like lobster).

I am rating only based on 5 Don Buri meals I had. Avoid their Don Buri meals. Almost no substance just rice and eggs. Taste was subpar and amount of vegetable, beef or chicken is just too little… If they lower the price by 25%, it’d be worth it.

this place isn’t going to be able to compete with it’s poor, unfriendly, service and small portions for the price. We had to ask for waters and drinks and the be asked what our orders were. Very forgettable, negative experience.

A couple of blocks from work so this is my go-to for sushi lunch. It’s decent and affordable — I usually get the 2 roll lunch combo with soup or salad and they give you a decent list of rolls to choose from.(not exactly their«special» rolls but not just a tuna or salmon roll either.) The place is really small and always packed so I usually take it go — they make it quick so a good choice for lunch in the hood.

No idea what everyone’s talking about the sushi was totally sub par. No crab. Fauxcrab. Came out in 1 minute meaning was sitting around waiting for me to order. Avoid

I feel like I just wanna say whatevaahhhh to all the bad reviews. For me, this place is amazing. Thirty seconds from my job, perfect for lunch, affordable, great ambiance, delicious, great service and really warm and comfortable. The lunch deals are fantastic and are just the right amount of food. No one bothers you and its a good place to eat alone. Also, Oyako don(chicken, egg & rice) is maybe not terribly authentic but its delish, cheap and filling. p. s. $ 15 minimum for credit card so bring cash if you wanna be cheap

Nice little place serving sushi and other dishes. I was looking for a simple lunch, having walked over from 5th, but didn’t want a slice/dog/falafel or anything fancier/formal from the places I passed. This place appeared on a food-desolate block and did the trick. For $ 7.50 I got a nice bento box with salad, rice, potstickers and a decent piece of Teriyaki salmon and veggies. For an extra buck you get soup and some other things. It might not be super authentically Japanese, but I got a nice, healthy lunch for under $ 10. Note: It’s pretty tiny… 5 tables, 3 of which are 2 tops — and the sushi bar might have two seats/stools.

I don’t get all the bad reviews. This place offers cheap sushi that is of good quality is a great go-to spot for sushi takeout. Yeah, you get what you pay for so it’s not going to be phenomenal but the prices are really good as is the service. It’s a lot better than many other places I’ve tried in the city that have similar price points. Portions are big and the lunch specials are a really good deal… a ton of food. Their salmon teriyaki is good as are their rolls. Definitely my go-to for lunch(work in the neighborhood). P. S. $ 15 credit card min
