Papo’s Fried Chicken and Zack’s Pizzeria

Shut down for flagrant health code violations. The fried chicken was decent, but. .. wow. If it reopens, be careful.

1) Food, food preparation area, food storage area, area used by employees or patrons, contaminated by sewage or liquid waste.
2) Raw, cooked or prepared food is adulterated, contaminated, cross-​contaminated, or not discarded in accordance with HACCP plan.
3) Evidence of mice or live mice present in facility’s food and/​or non-​food areas.
4) Facility not vermin proof. Harborage or conditions conducive to attracting vermin to the premises and/​or allowing vermin to exist.
5) Plumbing not properly installed or maintained; anti-​siphonage or backflow prevention device not provided where required; equipment or floor not properly drained; sewage disposal system in disrepair or not functioning properly.

The insane variety of what they offer makes me nervous about their ability to cook any of it properly and about the freshness of their ingredients. The cooks struggled to complete my order (a gyro), and there were some food safety issues. For example, after my sandwich was about half-​done, one of the two cooks decided to put on a single latex glove. Then he only handled my food with the un-​gloved hand.
I wish that they would offer just a few things that they know how to prepare well. They seem to be from a part of the world that is famous for great food. Why don’t they offer food from their culture and add to the diversity in this neighborhood? Instead, they are trying to sell pizza, sandwiches and fried food in a neighborhood that already has all of that.

The chicken here is very mediocre– nothing special, and not very good. The service in-​store is somewhat curt and unfriendly as well.
It’s also one of those places where you can almost feel the grease in the air. To be expected perhaps, in a chicken establishment, but definitely not a place that makes you want to stay in the store.

Made it out to LIC again… I’ve ordered from here before — usually get some type of fried chicken combo which is usually tasty. This time I opted for some pasta — had the lasagna with sausage, very good, definitely more than what I expected, not the best I’ve ever had, but definitely good Delivery time is normal, 30 – 40 minutes. Will definitely order from here again.
