Smug condescending assholes working here. I asked how much a painting was out of curiosity and if I could see a price list, the girl in the gallery said«I can’t give you that information» you’re a fucking gallery, you sell art, and you don’t know whether or not I’m worth 12 billion or 12 dollars. Good artists, nice show but the staff was utterly unbearable.

Honestly I don’t know much about Art BUT this area has tons of free galleries that you can come through and browse. Most will let you take pictures too!

One Hot Dangerous Minute. Even though Mark Ryden’s paintings exude a sense of innocence, there’s something rebellious about them. The subjects he paints are usually wide eyed and fragile yet shocking and ironic at the same time. He pokes fun at the viewer and makes a huge statement about pop culture and history. I only knew Mark Ryden as an album cover artist and never of his collections. When I found out he was doing a solo show at the Paul Kasmin Gallery, I made it a point to go. The Paul Kasmin Gallery is a great space for Ryden. It had 3 full rooms of sketches and paintings illuminated by overhead lighting. The Paul Kasmin Gallery looks closed from the outside but once you open the doors, you’re let into the world of the artist. I didn’t get a chance to see the work of Tim Burton at MOMA but I can pretty much say that I’m okay with that. I got my fill via the Paul Kasmin Gallery. Ryder’s work is an oddity and aura in it’s own right. If you like things that are dark, twisted, sad looking, fun and bright at the same time, then this show is for you. Little Bo Peep, Abe Lincoln, and Jesus were all around. A meat dress is high fashion in «Incarnation», Abe Lincoln serves up sirloin through«The Grinder» and Jesus… Well Jesus is really your homeboy. He plays the piano for a holy trinity of scary triplets in «The Piano Man» and rides tandem in «Riding With the Lord». Jesus is cool. Ryden’s The Gay 90’s Olde Tyme Art Show runs through June 5. See it now.

The gallery is currently showing the photographic works of Tseng Kwong Chi– large B & W photos of the photographer and famous monuments. The work is slyly ironic, sweet and naïve at the same time. The photos combine the mentality of outsider art and a love of pop culture. The gallery consists of two large square rooms. Every available space contains the over large photos.
