3.5 stars. Really Good Cheese steak sandwich but the sandwich was too greasy. I also believe they gave me the smaller size sandwich but mistake, but If I did get the correct size(ordered full) then it was expensive for the size. The menu is very limited menu and they don’t offer waffle fries.

Its fast. From line up to order was less than 10 minutes, but really, the sandwich is nothing special. Not something to seek out or really even go to as a first option.

Went to Brooklyn on a Saturday to check out the music and entertainment here in Williamsburg when I saw food trucks lined up together. A beautiful young lady named Cynthia inside the truck with the most prettiest eyes set me up with a nicely spiced Philly provolone cheese steak sandwich. One thing I look for in sandwiches is how fresh the bread and ingredients are. The sandwich was a hit. Nicely spiced and fresh ingredients. When I took a bite out of it, the juice of the meat slowly dripped off onto the plate. I checked out the other trucks and the best one was Phil’s Steaks. Nice juicy sandwich with just the right amount of spice. Two thumbs up. Thank you pretty lady. Big ups to Cynthia and Phil’s Steaks. You guys rock.

Just finished mine. I checked in while I was walking back to my office and noticed that they give a free soda or water with first check in, awesome! I’ll take you up on that offer next time. This was great. I loved it and ate it in probably 5 minutes. Everything tasted freshh and was nice and hot. I suggested this to my boss and coworker and they were so pleased with the smell/look of my sandwich that they went to go get them also. If this truck is around my area, I will be here often.

Went wit’ the 6″ Whiz steak wit’($ 7.75) at the Louis Armstrong Fest(where they handled the line fairly well) and also redeemed the Unilocal checkin special for free Coke/Diet Coke/Sprite(Dr. Brown’s and San Pellegrino predictably excluded, and they grumbled at even accepting it at all). Satisfying product and differently seasoned than I’ve had previously, but not a bad thing.

As a Philly native, I recommend this lunch truck. They did a great job of replicating the soft and greasy feel of a real Philly Cheese steak sandwich. btw — a previous poster said they did not toast the roll — Philly Cheese Steaks are not toasted! The key is the soft roll and tender meat. Phil’s got it! The Amaroso’s Philly rolls are a nice touch and make the meal. I took a star off as the Provolone on the sandwich was not a factor — they need to add more cheese and chop it up with the meat and onions. Overall — very good and nice guys.

I thought it was pretty good overall but not the best cheesesteak I’ve ever had. They didn’t toast the bun at all for me which got to me bc I definitely prefer that(I don’t know who doesn’t). But overall the steak in the sandwich was good as was the cheese/onions so I’m not complaining.

Got a 10 inch«special» wit’ from the truck. It was merely okay. Not a lot of steak, which was disappointing, especially considering the hefty $ 11.75 price tag. Probably won’t be back for seconds.

Really solid. Get the provolone + hot peppers + fried onions. Comparable to Shorty’s(also great) Fries aren’t anything special

This place fails so hard at their one claim… that they are a Philly cheese steak truck. If this place was in Philly it would be the lowest rung of steak you could get in the city. The shops there just use way tastier meat. Sure, they have use the same bakery for the rolls and the lingo«wit or witout», but they just don’t do it justice. Everything is overly salty, cheap tasting, and worse you have to pay nyc inflation prices for this food. Sorry to be a cheese steak snob, but when you grow up living near mecca, lame substations just don’t cut it. Don’t ask me why you can’t get a decent steak outside of philly… seems like someone could figure out how to cook delicious meat and cheese and stick it on a bun. But this place hasn’t.

I definitely was not impressed with this food truck. The steak was subpar. Tasted like something I can get anywhere like Nathans.(I dont know why that came to mind but its true). The line was crazy long so I expected better but I was definitely dissatisfied. I also had the french fries with whiz cheese that was actually the best part and saved me from going back to work starving after lunch. The fries were crispy and the cheese whiz was surprisingly good. I personally would not recommend at all unless you just want to grab some fries. Also I did get a free drink upon checking in. Love Unilocal perks…

My friend from work sent me an excited message on Friday morning, saying that this truck was near our office. I was quick to decode the message to what it actually meant: «skip breakfast; we’re having cheesesteak for lunch». You see, contrary to what my friends and family would like to believe, I am not entirely cray-cray; I am rather astute when occasion requires it. The weather was colder than I had expected, but I had worked up an appetite for cheesesteak, and felt no shame in having my poor friend stand with me in the cold to place our orders and pick up our lunch. What’s a man to do? The flesh is weak and the temptation is strong. I got the 6-inch(that was all I could handle) Whiz Steak with onions, and extra cheese(American), hot peppers, mayo and hot sauce. Is it any wonder, then, that my cheesesteak got so messy(yet so tasty) that I needed a full ablution to cleanse my hands after the meal? The steak was perfectly juicy and the cheese whiz was some godly, gooey goodness of the grandest magnificence {alliteration alert}! Once I had picked up the sandwich to take my first bite, I could not put it down to partake of the fries and drink, until the sandwich was all finished. Part of the reason(in addition to it being so tasty) was that it was so full of juicy meat and cheese that it would have completely fallen apart and it would have been an arduous mission to pick back up and eat a disintegrated sandwich. I also got the whiz fries. Since this is not a sit-down restaurant, the whiz comes in a separate container rather than being spread onto the fries. One look at the bag of fries and the amount of grease on it told me they were going to be deliciously oily and I wouldn’t be able to stop until they were all finished(or, as my friends from Pennsylvania, the home of the cheesesteak, would say, until the fries were«all»). The drink was free because I had checked in on Unilocal! As I continue to impart my sagacity to the rest of you, let me alert you that you will need lots of chewing gum(or mint or mouthwash or other breath-fresheners) if you have any meetings after you indulge in this sinfully delicious meal.

A 3.5. Pretty good cheesesteak and, you get a free water or diet coke when you check-in on Unilocal! I wish there was more cheeese, though they did put a lot of meat on there! This review was for the truck in front of NYU Stern, btw.

A few of the guys in our office love this truck and look out the window salivating waiting for lunch time to grab a philly cheese steak. The line is usually pretty long, but service is quick. The sandwiches were a reasonable size — but much heavier when you start eating all of that meat and cheese goodness! The meat is thinly sliced and tender. The cheese was super gooey/melty. The bread was soft and squishy and had a good flavor. Overall no complaints! Would order again if I was looking for some serious comfort food.

I finally gave Phil’s Steaks truck a try last week and definitely liked what I saw and tried. It’s hard to miss their truck, which is in pretty good condition and well kept. That’s a plus I guess. Also, they’ve got their name on each side and the moniker«NYC’s 1st Authentic Cheesesteak…» on it. I took a look at their menu and ordered the basic 10 inch«Whiz Steak», which is my real test of how all cheesesteaks stack up to one another. They do offer a smaller 6 incher, but for $ 7.50, meanwhile the 10 incher is $ 9.75. You do the math. The Whiz Steak comes with cheese whiz and wit’ or wit’out onions. I got mine«wit» as they say in Philly. I’ve tried Shorty’s before in the FiDi area and sorry but Phil’s beats it by a mile! I was impressed by the flavors coming out of this cheesesteak. It reminded me of my favorite Philly cheesesteak spot Pat’s.(I’m not a fan of Geno’s and also have tried Phil’s in Philly.) The bread was soft and not flacky with the steak oils soaked in. The meat was juicy, extremely flavorful and the cheese was melted perfectly onto it. The steak was not dominated by the cheese as it really felt like the cheese was a compliment to it. Each bite melted in my mouth. Since the bread was soft, it was very easy to chew with the cheesesteak. Best of all, I checked in for the first time and Unilocal offers a free drink deal with that. The cashier and owner were very friendly as well. Just a nice greeting and smile go a long way, but when it’s on top of a great product, that’s an A+! Will definitely be coming back sometime.

Very generous portions, bun overflowing with meat, great taste as well. They also have a selection of Dr. Brown’s sodas, and I had the cream soda, which you don’t see a lot of.

One day during lunch I was strolling down the street, when I noticed this truck. And like always my lack of self-control when it comes to food took over. What’s the verdict? Definitely a fan! Granted, it’s not as good as the ones I’ve had in Philly, but does a pretty good job. I ordered the Provolone Steak with fried onions. You get to choose whether you want the 6″ or 10″ Amoroso roll. I stuck to the 6″ and I’m pretty happy I did. The bread was soft, steak was chopped perfectly, good amount of provolone cheese on top, and the fried onions topped it off perfectly. What’s there not to love? Oh, and if you want to talk about service, the attendants were really nice(waaaaaaay nicer then the jerks I’ve encountered in Philly). Overall, it’s definitely a good spot to hit up for lunch!

Yay! I’m a fan! The first time I had Phil’s Steaks was during 4th of July, when the truck was at the ARRIVALNYC festival. Given I was starving by the time I had the cheesesteak, it was probably guaranteed that I would enjoy it. Fast forward 8 months and I find it outside of my office — I had to have it again. I had the cheesesteak with onions and provolone and it tasted just the same as before. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nothing compared to the REAL Philly cheesesteak but it’s the best you can get in Midtown, that’s for sure. The only thing I have to complain about is the soggy bread.

I’ve been to this truck downtown but not in midtown. Got a 6 inch American steak wit fried onions and hot peppers for $ 7.50. Bun was soft and chewy the cheese was nice and melts. Hot peppers added a nice zip to the steak. Really good I will be back. Service was friendly too. 51st and park.

Food trucks are a rarity in the Garden State, so when the opportunity arises, you grab the bull by the horns and you just do it. You can’t go wrong with a cheese steak, and not only that, but one that offers both varieties of them. There’s always been the long standing argument of cheese vs. cheese whiz. While I’m a big guy, I didn’t try both… lol Staff was friendly, prices are reasonable, food was better than what I get at a local place that does cheese steaks. I highly recommend this place!
