Mediocre, 2nd star is for serving pasta in the pan.

I was born and raised in Italy and this place is legit when it comes to authentic food. The homemade pasta was perfectly done. I’m thinking of having my son’s First Communion here… and my Italian family is SUPER picky when it comes to eating out. Great place!

Piccola Cucina has got its Italian food game on point. With even a restaurant in Ibiza, Spain, and London, England, Piccola Cucina is doing something right. I came with my friend on a Saturday night at around 5:15PM, so luckily, there were tables. I would imagine if you came at dinner time(around 6:30 — 7:30 time), you should have a reservation for a weekend. FOOD: I got the pasta alle sarde, pasta with sardines. I could see how this dish is not some people’s favorite, but growing up eating sardines and eating things that really taste like the ocean. Pasta alle sarde for me was perfect with a good salt content and the sardines were tender and great! The fresh made pasta? Delicious and of the right texture and consistency. You can tell that the freshly made pasta makes a world of a difference. I thought it was one of the best pasta dishes I have had in NYC. The presentation of the meal was good too being served in a large frying pan. I assumed they had cooked the meal within that pan, but upon further examination, it was not(you can tell by the lack of sauce on the side of the pan), which gives it that cool straight from the kitchen experience. With the kitchen being so close, say hi to the chef who made your meal! SERVICE: Spot on and nothing was wrong! I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience. Great place on Spring Street! With a subway stop so close, this Italian place has got my heart!

Great food and service. Everything is fresh and tasty. Great ingredients and atmosphere(Italian music and you can see the Italian chef working on the background). A MUST to anyone who enjoy good food.

Tasty food, courteous service in lovely-enough ambience. I had the seasonal salad and tagliatelle with black truffle shavings. All was pretty tasty. I’d definitely go back!

I love this restaurant! It is a tiny place but full of charm. Our dinner was delicious and I was very happy with the prices. We had a great time and I hope I get the chance to visit again! :-) Definitely get the arancini or meatballs for appetizer.

This is an absolute gem of a restaurant. Everything about the meal here was amazing. The restaurant is very tight on space, but the food more than makes up for it.

My wife and I, we were at the office Christmas party that was thrown at Piccola and I had a great time. It was a bit small but intimate and full of life the waiters are excellent they cater to you and they try to get to know you. Very friendly atmosphere and be prepared for full throttle Italian experience the wine selection is excellent and the food is really good. My wife had The Burrata served with cherry tomatoes and arugula salad, l had Sardines beccafico with fennel and orange very delicious and that was just the starter. I definitely recommend this place in my opinion the price is right(No pun intended) this is a great place to take friends and family to if you decide to go there you will enjoy yourself.

This place was very hard not to give five stars for and they really deaerve 4.5! Ver authentic, you could be in Italy. We had an appetizer of eggplant parmigiana revisited, fantastic and very innovative. Then we had four pasta plated that all came in the pan. All were delicious at great prices.

This review is mostly for the service. While the food was tasty(we had an assortment of pastas — ravioli, tagliatelle, and lobster linguine), the service was quite tasteless. We came to Piccola Cucina Osteria for lunch today with a group of about 8 people, and walked into a mostly empty restaurant. Upon entering, one of my coworkers asked if we could have a table to accommodate our party, and almost immediately the server condescendingly asked if we had a reservation. When I pointed out that there were tables on the left to accommodate us, he snapped back and said«if those were available then I would have let you sit there by now.» This was extremely disrespectful and unprofessional. He then made another couple get up and move to the other side of the restaurant to accommodate our group, but did so with such a terrible attitude. I’ve eaten here before and had amazing experiences, but this was pretty terrible. It was unfortunate that gratuity was added automatically, as he definitely did not deserve much accolade for his unprofessional and unwelcoming manner.

I stopped by this past Thursday with a gf of mine. We just wanted to grab a glass of wine and quick snack. The lovely server understood our time constraints and moved quickly without making us feel rushed. She also sat us by the table for two right by the open windows so we could enjoy the fresh evening air which was surprisingly warm for november. The rest of the space has a cozy feel, I’d recommend this for a great first date place as it’s intimate without the noise. For our shareable snack, we got the fried cheese($ 7) which was the perfect portion size when you just want to nibble with a nice red. I’d love to come back here to try their dinner menu.

This is the best pasta place I’ve ever tried in NYC. You can tell it’s good because they also have a location in Ibiza, so it’s international. The pasta is fresh and tastes just like the pasta from Italy. It’s a very small, unassuming restaurant(those ones are always the best) and I’m confident recommending this as a restaurant to anybody, tourists or locals alike.

The criteria: I was looking for an Italian restaurant in New York for a special dinner on my 30th birthday. I wanted something that felt like Italy; intimate, home cooked everything, and relaxed. My husband and I spent a lot of time searching and thought Piccolo Cucina sounded exactly like what we were looking for. The reservation: There is no option to reserve a table on their website. We sent an email request to the address they have listed, but it bounced back. My husband called the number and made a reservation that way. The person there was very Italian and there may have been a bit of miscommunication — we weren’t sure if he had the right date. We had my Italian father call back to confirm. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the restaurant on the day of our reservation, there was nothing on record under my husband’s name. I had a feeling this would happen. Fortunately there was a table available for us. The restaurant is very piccolo, indeed, and we could have just as easily been left winging it in an unfamiliar city on my 30th birthday. The experience: The waiters were impeccable and everybody who works there is speaking Italian; music to my ears. We had a basic arugula salad and bread with oil and vinegar to start. Two of the best meals in my life were had on small squares in Italy, relaxing with a glass of wine and dining on simple, homemade, fresh pasta, and that is what I was hoping to recreate for my birthday. This experience was right up there with those ones. Don’t bother filling yourself up with bread, because you’ll want to eat every last bite of whatever it is that you order. i forced myself to keep eating even after I was full because I didn’t want to waste any of it. I noticed that the other tables seemed to be occupied by people from the neighbourhood, which added nicely to the relaxed vibe. The music was a bit louder than I would have played at a restaurant this size. This would have been a 5 star experience if it weren’t for the lost reservation and potential disaster it could have caused. I would definitely recommend and return. Just make sure your reservation is triple confirmed!

NOT your typical Italian restaurant. Everything is fresh, made to order &OUTSTANDING. The menu is small but the choices are wonderful. It’s also a really fun place – the owner/chef will suddenly break out into song & then encourages the entire restaurant to join in. It’s a real hoot. Steve describes it as «the happiest place on earth», but then again, I’ve heard him say that before about Disney & a couple of other restaurants too

Came here for Valentine’s day and it was incredible! You know there’s great Italian food when some of the tables are Italian and have rather lively banter with the semi-open kitchen! Service was good for the most part. They were incredibly busy. I got a complimentary heart brownie when we got our check! Tables are incredibly small and cramped — classic New York. Coats were hung near the entrance — sort of a hassle to get your coat when you leave. We started with two appetizers: 1. Arancino Catanese(sicilian rice balls filled with meat ragu with tomato and pesto couli): Unfortunately lacking. The dish came with two rice balls and a light dose of a very heavily vinaigretted salad. Envision deep-fried risotto with some meat sauce inside. It actually reminded us of bar food… Very disappointing. 2. Corona Di Polpo Alla Griglia Con Ceci, Rucola, Olive E Capperi(crown of grilled octopus with chickpeas, arugula, olives and capers): THISWASINCREDIBLE! Heavily recommend. They grilled the octopi perfectly. It was nice and tender and not rubbery at all. The acidity from their citrus seasoning was also en pointe. The only sad part was how small the appetizer was… I wish we ordered two!(I’m guessing the octopus entrée is also incredible — definitely getting it next time!) We also had two entrees: 3. Tagliatelle Verdi Con Ragu De Cinghiale Aromatizzato Alle Erbe Di Campagna E Scaglie Di Tartufo(green taglatelle in a wild boar ragu with fresh herb aroma topped with black truffle shavings): Very good and satisfying. Note that the wild boar is very finely minced so it is not tough at all. The dish was very heavy and satisfying. Would definitely recommend it. 4. Pasta Alle Sarde(pasta with sicilian sardines, pine nuts, sultana raisins and wild fennel): I had a couple bites of this and was not a fan. The sardine pieces themselves were quite good — nice and tender and salty. The pasta however was incredibly fishy. The dish itself was also quite small compared to the wild boar pasta entrée. And the crème brûlée for dessert: 5. Crème Brulée Gratinata Con Lamponi E Salsa Alle Fragole(crème bruleé with raspberries and a strawberry sauce): Huge and absolutely delicious. It was nice and hard on top without sacrificing the chill of the body. Note that this is a huge portion, probably good for two people to share. Nice and sweet while also being tangy. TLDR: Rice balls were meh. Octopus appetizer was incredible. Boar pasta was good and large. Sardines pasta was fishy and small. Crème brûlée was huge and great. Our total came out to ~$ 120 for two. So definitely pretty pricey. Be prepared.

SLURP. Came here for lunch — $ 10 for any of the pastas they have on their menu and most of the appetizers. I was even allowed to choose the lobster linguine! They give you a substantial portion so you don’t walk out of there still hungry like most lunch specials.

First the great: the bucatini with sausage and truffles was one of those amazing Italian dishes. Bucatini is a super thick spaghetti. The sauce was tomato basil sausage truffle heaven. Unfortunately the rest of the meal was not special. The fried mozzarella app was fine, the artichoke app tasted pretty much like any marinated artichoke you can find at a high end grocery store and the Caesar looked like a grade school cooking project with a dressing that was uncreative, creamy and tasted store bought. Fun spot though and a buzzing Italian vibe.

The chefs, servers and patrons are singing«Mambo Italiano,» wine glasses are full and I am twirling a delicious strand of homemade pasta served atop a lobster shell. That was just one perfect moment from a perfect dining experience. This tiny restaurant has an open kitchen and the chefs truly love their craft. The wine list was impressive and by the glass options were poured from respective bottles table side. The rice ball appetizer is crazy good. The green pappardelle with boar ragu and truffle was one of the best pasta dishes I have ever tasted. Stellar. My lobster linguine was luscious. Skipped dessert but will try it next time. Best of the best Italian.
