Came here awhile back, but the food was amazing. This place is quite popular so would recommend that you make reservations and that all members of your party are there when you arrive. We all shared a sangria for the table as we ordered the matador combo which comes with chicken, avocado salad, hot dogs, fries, beans, rice and plantain chips. With an appetizer, this combo is probably good for three people. Will definitely come back if I’m around.

Bigger and brighter than its UES sister with floor to ceiling windows and happy staff who won’t hesitate to give you a to-go cup of that dangerously addictive green sauce, Pio Pio 6 is one of my favorite restaurants in the city to bring out-of-towners and locals alike. I dare you to find someone who loathes the combination of Peruvian rotisserie chicken and sangria(unless they’re vegan, in which case, abandon all hope). Here’s what they do best: (1) They’re pros at handling large groups. Instead of running screaming from our group of 14 people, they graciously dealt with my many frenzied confirmations, my calls to change the party size from 10 to 13 to 15 to back to 14, and kept the sangria flowing. (2) The sangria is sweet enough to taste like fruit juice but has enough jazz to remind you that you’ve just guzzled a good amount of wine as soon as you try to stand up. (3) The Matador combination. Still a steal at $ 38(though the UES Pio Pio is $ 36 — so hike across Central Park if you want to save the $ 2), because look at what it nets you: half of a rotisserie chicken, an avocado salad, hot dogs and French fries, fried plantains with garlic sauce, and beans and yellow rice. (4) Tres leches cake. (5) Corvino a lo Macho. Scallops, squid, a giant prawn, and some kind of fish. I boxed up the leftovers because I couldn’t get the vision of soupy seafood rice out of my head. The damage: 3 Matador combos, 3 pitchers of sangria, 2 orders of calamari, and a few entrees/1 dessert came out to $ 30 among 13 people, tax and tip included. Gee whiz.

The food itself is pretty good, maybe could be better. It was quite busy in here. Luckily we didn’t have to wait very long. All the reviews tout Pio Pio’s large portions, so we just ordered: Half pitcher of Sangria: Sweet & fruity with mild wine flavor. The waitress brought the carafe to our table and poured it into two glasses. Ceviche Limeno($ 14) — diced corvina fish, lime juice, red onions, cilantro, sweet potato, nuts: I liked the fish, but I wish there was a little more of it. The lime juice made the chunks of white fish taste very refreshing. There were also some nuts throughout the dish that reminded me of Corn Nuts. In fact, there were more nuts than there was fish on the plate. The sweet potato was not bad; it added some sweet contrast to the salty and sour. For the amount of food included in this dish, I feel like they should have used a smaller plate. Lomo Saltado($ 26) — strips of sirloin steak marinated in vinegar, soy sauce, sautéed with red onions, parsley, tomatoes, with rice & French fries: The steak and fries were not bad. I enjoyed the sauce and mixed it into the rice. The red onions were cooked well. Again, I wish there was more to this dish. Considering this place is supposedly family style, this dish is actually quite small. The portions of steak were small. I understand beef is more expensive, but for a $ 26 dish, I was expecting a larger portion. Saffron rice & beans: I’m glad we had this as a side dish. Yellow saffron rice & red beans were tasty and served as fillers for the rest of our dishes. Service was not bad, but we waited quite a while for our food. After finishing the ceviche, it took a long time before we got our lomo saltado. I think I almost got hungry all over again while waiting for steak & fries & rice.

Elena was awesome. Soft music playing in the background. It’s not over crowded on a brunch weekday. The wine was good. Malbec was great. Food is a good portion and not oops much. Waiting staff very friendly. Reminds me of a small neighborhood friendly feel. The only sounds you’ll hear is soft conversations and happy employees.

awesome for takeout. We got delivery, and it was fast and easy. Always a great option for group takeout. I like their avocado salad, the green sauce makes the chicken, add some beans and yellow rice and you’ve got a paaaaarty!

Pio pio is the best!!! A must get is their sangria(a pitcher for about $ 30) — delicately sweet and generous portion to share for 4 or 2 if you are loving it like me and my friends. We got mixed ceviche for starters and corvina a lo macho(mixed seafood) and lomo Saltado(filet mignon cooked with fries) for main dishes. Both were fantastic. The green sauce is to die for. We’ve also tried the Marador combo(roasted chicken) and sea bass on previous visits — all super delicious. The trick is to start with a pitcher of sangria(always) This particular time we went in on a weekday around 6:30PM, was lucky enough to get the last table for a party of two, and we see people who came later than us waiting outside(sorri guys) so come early! It is a busy spot.

We were a party of 9, and we have actually been here before many times as regulars. We like the food, location, ambience. We had many great times before, but tonight it was terrible. We were rushed, the waiter seemed rushed, they even cleared the table while we were sitting there. The server tried to take plates with food that we were actually eating from. I just can’t with tonight, theb quality is not the same. Unfortunately, we don’t plan to come back for group celebrations.

We used to come here quite a bit — food was always on point. What a disappointment today. Perhaps there was turnover in the kitchen, but every dish that came out was subpar. We ordered a tamal and some chicken empanadas for appetizers. The tamal was horribly dry and the chicken was like rubber. Promptly returned that one. The empanadas were good. Then we had the popular dish arroz chaufa. The rice was over-cooked and the whole dish had a weird taste to it. The chicken again, rubber. At least the service wasn’t terrible, but when we asked for water without ice they looked at us like we were aliens from another planet. Won’t be returning.

This was my second visit. The first was during my trip to NYC to see Serena in the US Open. I thought my love of this place might have been because I was upset because I didn’t get to see Serena and the sangria made everything better. So I hesitated posting a review. This trip was a quick trip with friends and I was secretly hoping we could return. On November 7 I realized my love was true! Everything I ate was delicious! Unfortunately, because my friend(a regular) always orders for the table, I can’t give you the actual menu items. The empanadas are the best I’ve ever had. We also chicken, a shrimp and avocado dish, rice and beans, and French fries. Yes French fries! Again, everything was delicious! But the best part was the sangria. BESTSANGRIAEVER!!! The service is also exceptional. Yeah, I’m trying to come here every trip to NYC. I know there’s a lot of good restaurants in NYC but I only go 1 – 2 times a year so… Yeah I’ll be back.

Generous Portions Peruvian Green Sauce Whether you’re ordering takeout, delivery, or dining in Pio Pio is a good neighborhood option. I have been to several locations over the years and have come to find comfort knowing the portion size is generous and the food is consistently good. If you are looking for a more formal experience they have a location in Hell’s kitchen which is quite large. Great for large dinner parties, I suggest not passing up the green sauce or the sangria. Great chicken, great specials. All around delicious and accommodating. Four star for the food, one star for the service. We went for dinner on a Saturday night. The editor asked if we wanted deserts after we were finished with the dishes, we said no. But we decided to sit for a little longer since it was starting to rain outside. So we asked for the desert menu. The waiter came to our table and said«you said no when I asked you», without any facial expressions. Suddenly I felt so GUILTY for asking for the desert menu. And then he said«it’s fine, you can order». Of course we didn’t want to piss off the waiter so we left and walked into the rain.

This place never fails to surprise my taste buds. It’s already one of my favorite restaurants after almost a year of trying out different places in NYC. Ooooh calamari frito you are cooked to perfection! Just the right amount of batter. It’s a little bit peppery(the way I like it) Camarones Cuzco(shrimp with garlic with a bunch of other stuff) I can still taste you! The only issue I have with this place is that it’s always busy. Btw, my actual bill is way more than my estimate. Anyway, anything but math!

MUYDELICIOSO!!! What a lovely birthday treat for my friend! The food was so amazing… Wow. That pesto pasta was just… Divine… The flavor was rich but not overwhelming and the presentation was beautiful! The Maduros were PERFECT. Such a good portion too! The CHOCOLATECAKEWASTHEPERFECTENDING! We were SOOO full but we couldn’t pass on this one– especially because it had the happy birthday surprise waiting for her! The waiters all sang which was so kind of them :) The service was pretty slow which is why I give it a four, but the food was absolutely delicious and I am so glad we finally came here :)!

«Pio Pio» is the sound my ray guns make when I shoot them in the air for approval. As I PERUsed through Unilocal,I found this Peruvian salon. Then, I bulldozed my way towards the matador combo. Easily split amongst a party of three, Mama Juanita’s rotisserie chicken was luscious and tantalizing. The salchipapa dish features sliced hotdogs mixed with french fries, a glorious merger of goods. The feast also comes with rice, beans, and an avocado salad. Tostones are fried sweet plaintains, which have no effect on your testosterone levels(not scientifically proven). After this hearty meal, I felt I needed to take a hike up Machu Picchu to burn off the calories. Oh, I could not find any Lima beans on the menu. The lively customers filled the grand dining room, while accommodating servers added to the comfortable and casual setting.

I have been here a few times and also eat my wifes leftovers when she brings them home, to her chagrin! The chicken is fantastic, so are the appetizers. The prices are also decent, so 5 stars for having great good, good service and decent prices! The only complaint is that they are so good they are always packed with people in the evenings.

Came to this place to celebrate my sister graduating from pharmacy school. We got here right before the dinner rush so was able to be seated immediately. The restaurant itself is quite small like most places in NYC, so we were relieved when they were able to accommodate our party of 9. The portions are fairly large, but NOT quite family style type entrees just yet… GREENSAUCE was given along with meals but we had to ask for about 5 refills because everyone at the table enjoyed it so much and ate it with everything. IMO, the green sauce is tasty but doesn’t have that spicy/zingy kick that I’m used to. 4 stars*** We ordered CALAMARIFRITO(x2) $ 14– crispy calamari served with homemade salsa roja. very lightly battered calamari with a salsa sauce on the side but I just dipped in in their green sauce along with everything else I ate here. 4 stars*** JUANITA’S ROTISSERIECHICKEN(x2) $ 16– chicken marinated in mama juanita’s authentic recipe. 4 ½ stars*** one of the better tasting chicken I’ve ever had but pieces were quite fatty and greasy. LOMOSALTADO $ 26.00– Filet mignon strips, soy sauce, spices, red onion, parsley, tomatoes, served over white rice, french fries. I can not believe this was $ 26 for the portion size. The dish was good and flavorful, but I’ve definitely had better and the meat was a little overlooked so was a little tougher. 3 ½ stars*** ARROZCONMARISCOS Arroz-$ 30.00 Peruvian style paella, scallops, octopus, mussels, shrimp, squid in a red sauce. topped with salsa criolla. AGAIN, I can’t believe they charge $ 30 for this plate. Yes the portions were larger, but still not worth the price in my opinion. Flavoring was there but I’ve definitely had better and had to add green sauce to perfect it. 4 stars*** SAFFRONRICE(x2) $ 3.25– good basic red rice. Cooked perfectly 5 stars*** FRIEDPLANTAINS $ 4 good, not too oily. Came with a great garlic sauce on the side 5 stars*** SWEETPLANTAINS $ 4 good and not too sweet, but I prefer my plantains a little bit firmer 4 ½ stars*** CAMARONESCUZCO $ 20 shrimp, garlic, shallots, cilantro, white wine, aji amarillo sauce, served with yellow rice topped with salsa criolla.(WEOPTEDTOCHANGEYELLOWRICEWITHQUINOA) This I could definitely do without. The dish was just ok for me, definitely on the bland side. Maybe the quinoa played a small part but when mixed in the Amarillo sauce it still was ehhh 3 stars*** Service was sufficient. Nobody stood out or went out of their way. We had to ask for waters to be refilled, extra green sauce, and extra napkins at some point but besides that it was decent. I would be back if in the area visiting my sister, but for the prices here I wouldn’t go out of my way. Especially when I can get such good Peruvian in CA. .

So I’ve been on a lomo saltado binge for a couple weeks now, including making the dish for a family party. The trip here represented Day 2 of 3 days of lomo saltado in a row. When I saw the price of $ 26 for lomo saltado, I was really, really hoping it would be average or worse. Unfortunately for me, their lomo saltado is probably the best I’ve had to date(including mine). Now I might have to shell out $ 26 in the future for another one. In addition to good food, they have excellent authentic drinks and amazing, friendly service. This place was really busy on a Saturday night, so we sat at the bar for only a few minutes before being seated. Seating was a bit cramped looking, but surprisingly I was never bumped into and never had to move the entire time. Highly recommended.

My 2nd time at pio pio, 1st time at this location. It was such a messy/snowy/rainy day we figured it wouldnt be too busy at opening time. And we were right. My best friend and I were craving pio pio & decided to give this location a try. No regrets! I’d only prefer this location during an early time of day. It’s MUCH smaller than the one on 9th in hell’s kitchen. However, the servicet is excellent and the FOODLACKSNOTHING!!! Omg. Sooo good! I ordered the empanadas as an appetizer. And once again, they did not disappoint. You get 2 nice sized empanadas filled with shredded chicken and black beans with a yummy soft nice crust on the outside, for $ 8. The one thing I noticed that was different abt my empanadas here compared to the hell’s kitchen location, they also had boiled egg inside & a humongous black olive(gross gross gross). But other than that, amazing! I love getting green sauce wasted! I’m usually not a fan of anything spicy, unless its very tolerable and serves my pallet well. And the green sauce wins the championship every time! I put it on any and everything I order at pio pio. I wasn’t really in the mood to try anything new so I stuck to my usual. My entrée was the arroz con chefa($ 14) and it was plentiful and delicious!!! I barely dug into it because I was already full from the empanadas. My best friend ordered the dish with shrimp and rice in a caper sauce. I dont remember the name of it. But the pic speaks for itself. She loved it but wished the portion was bigger. And I agree. It is pretty small for $ 20!!! Come on now! So 4 stars out of 5! Certain menu items are a tad bit less here than other locations. Like what I ordered for my entrée is $ 14 here & $ 16 at 9th ave location. The sangria per glass is $ 8 here & $ 9 at the other location. Not a huge difference, but still a difference nonetheless. I’m glad to know that the food service and taste is consistent throughout the pio pio chain. Gotta try the Brooklyn location someday!

Pedi o Chicken Pio Pio.
