Occasionally I’ll order from or go somewhere else, but I have not found better Mexican food in NYC. The guacamole is the best around by far. The salsa verde is delicious & spicy. Such good flavor! Nothing like it around here. Tacos, burritos, tortas, tostadas are all great. They’re not dry & not greasy like some places in east Harlem. It helps if you speak Spanish, otherwise be patient.

Pipos make food fresh and for that reason take long to serve the food, coffee is great Not open on time most of the time Barbacoa tacos are yummy, and quesadillas are giant !! Waitress needs to be friendlier., but she isn’t rude.

Arrived on a Sunday evening to watch the Mexico vs Jamaica in the Gold Cup. Was surprised to see no one else in the whole place. A group of 7 of us ordered burritos and drinks, and were sadly disappointed. The waitresses begrudgingly took our orders and brought us waters only when we asked. The two women behind the counter never once refilled our waters, and were literally just hanging out the whole time. When my friend asked them(in Spanish) for his drink, one girl actually rolled her eyes. Another friend’s strawberry milkshake came during the middle of the meal, when it was ordered when we sat down. The chips were not refilled, and the burritos did not match the picture. It said it came with beans and rice on the side, but they arrived with beans and rice in the burrito instead. No one asked how they were. The al pastor was great, but the pork was so fatty, I kept pulling grey pieces of gristle from my plate. For only $ 7, I do think it’s a good deal for take out. Would not return.

Simple Mexican fare, perfectly executed at neighborhood prices. Throw in free delivery and this is a big winner. NB: I’ve only had the burrito(al pastor and vegetarian). These are both great and I’ve ordered takeout probably 10 times, but I can’t comment on the other items.

This is my go to spot when my girlfriend and I have a craving for mexican! Our go to is Chile rellenos. It is super flavorful and leaves you enough left over for breakfast in the morning. Spicy guacamole is really good too– their house made chips are phenomenal!

Go… Don’t go. I worked in a taqueria in Berkeley for $ 5.50 /hr while attending Berkeley. I thought what better way to get to speak spanish and eat for free. Taqueria Pippo is really, really, real… The chicken torta is like a Mexican bahn mi without the obvious liver influence. The sandwich was cold and I kept searching for that liver flavor wasn’t really nice and was oddly undetectable. Beyond my palate. $ 7. Not my thing. El pastor burrito was life altering. Honestly, it is amazing and just so much food. The pork and pineapple sweetness. The tortilla is appropriately charred. The filling is all about meat, beans and rice. They put the avocado, lettuce and salsa as garnish. The salsa verde and salsa rojo is always too hot. Delivery is prompt. They don’t do online or seamless so you have to call, but it is worth it. $ 7 if you order chips on the side, it will be a long conversation. Chips a lado o chips nacho. Chips nacho or chips con salsa. It was very confusing but it always turns out great. Delivery is ridiculously prompt and friendly. Great people and great food. Only four stars because it is just mexican take-out.

First and last time I will ever order from here! My boyfriend lives around the area and we were craving Mexican food so we decided to give Pipo’s a try. We regret we did! I order 3 different tacos and a torta. Once my order arrived it was completely wrong. Two of my tacos were the same and my torta missed toppings. When I called to complain and ask them to send over the toppings the lady that took my order was so nasty and unprofessional! She said I didnt know how to place an order and that she wasn’t going to send it. I was so upset because you don’t speak to your customers that way! So unprofessional. Never again!

The burritos are pretty much always good and they are huge. HOWEVER, I tried the tacos today and they are not very good. I got steak tacos(bistek) and they were dry, the onion wasn’t even chopped up it was just huge slices, not even separated, and the radishes were not evenly cut. There was just no care taken and the taste of the meat was too dry to be appreciated.

I love coming here with my husband especially on the weekends because they have the really good soups available. I find that the food is made with such love and it just tastes different than a lot of other Mexicans spots where the food tastes a little bit sloppy and just made en masse production to quickly feed you. I feel the difference in this place is that The tortillas and everything is just made by hand and you can just hit the ingredients is definitely really good quality and I love coming here the barbacoa tacos are my favorite.

Second time ever dining in a B rating establishment. My friend convinced me it could be for little things and not vermin running around so I swallowed my pride and ordered a chicken burrito. Looked like a neighborhood joint, couple of regulars eating and watching the novela. Server was really pregnant kinda felt bad for her to wait on us on her feet. I wanted guac in my burrito but she pointed to the guac and chips on the menu? No language barrier because she Spoke English well, but quite the confusion so no guac. We sat down and the burrito came with a little side salad which was unexpected but nice. No dressing or oil/vinegar around so I just stuffed it in my burrito. It was pretty okay, nothing to rave about and thankfully no trips to the loo so for a cheap bite to eat in this neighborhood it was decent. I’d come back once I see blue instead of green. I’m picky like that.

It was a dark and stormy night… we were soaked, and then Pipo’s appeared out of the mist like a shining beacon of warmth and quality Mexican cuisine. The rain had kept most sensible people at home, and many nearby restaurants were closed, so we were extremely thankful that Pipo’s was open. The staff was warm and friendly, and all the food was top notch. We started with the Nachos Sencillos and Guacamole with chips. The guacamole was lovely– fresh and with plentiful cilantro, which I always love. I at first though it strange that the cheese of the nachos was not melted– there was a thin layer of sour cream covered with shredded and crumbled cheese. However, the end result was really tasty– the black beans were warm and hearty, and the vegetables on top all tasted fresh. For main courses, we had: Enchiladas con Mole Poblano, Chicken Tacos, and the Shrimp Burrito. We found the chicken tacos a little bland, but everything else was top notch. The Mole sauce, in particular was phenomenal– dark and complex and just perfect. The portions were enormous and everything was very reasonably priced. Our safe haven in the storm turned out to be a new favorite haunt of mine in the neighborhood. Thanks, Pipo’s!

The 3-star review is generous. I want to give then 2.5 stars but Unilocal won’t let me. So I came here because of a Unilocal-guided quest for good Mexican food in East Harlem better than the taco truck on 110 and 3rd. This was my first visit to a sit-down Mexican restaurant in East Harlem and was looking forward to some juicy, succulent meat a cut above the rest. Sadly, I was mistaken. The chicken taco was bland, the steak taco was over cooked, and the al pastor taco was simply sub par. The value was great but the food fell short of expectations.

I pretty much live in Harlem on the weekends and this is my spot! I don’t check in nearly as much as I should, but assure you, this is my spot! This isn’t the best Mexican I’ve had, but I did grow up in California, so my standards are quite high. For NYC, I like them! I usually come here when hungover or still drunk from the night before. The food is good enough to go down, even on my nauseous days. What I love most in the world is pork fat and here, they hook me up with the pork fat! Whether I’m ordering tacos or tortas, when I request for extra pork fat, they give it to me. I don’t even have to ask anymore, they already know what’s up, regardless of what I’m ordering. Love that! Love them!

I really like Pipo’s(cash only), a hole in the wall Mexican place where Spanish soap operas are always on. They have three stand alone meals which I cycle through depending on my mood: chicken tacos($ 7.50 for 3 tacos), chicken torta(sandwich; $ 5), and(chicken) burrito($ 7). I’ve also tried the steak and chorizo tacos I believe, but wasn’t a huge fan of either. The chicken tacos are probably their most well known dish, and for good reason: they’re really, really good. In my opinion, the torta is the best value, but I’ve been getting the burrito a lot more recently. The chicken torta and the burrito taste pretty similar. While I do like the torta a lot and it’s on $ 5, I’ve had it destroy the roof of my mouth on multiple occasions. That’s never fun. The burrito on the other hand is always soft and delicious. It’s a lot different than any burrito I’ve had before. Pipo’s burrito is mostly rice, refried beans, and chicken. The chicken is killer and by far the most delicious part of the burrito, and is the single reason why I’ve been getting it a lot recently. While Chipotle’s burrito offers fresher ingredients and guac, I’d take a Pipo’s burrito 4 out of 5 times. The staff at Pipo’s are all really nice too. While most of their business(95%) comes from the surrounding Hispanic community, their English is great and easily understood.

I have been searching high and low since I moved to the east coast for a replacement for all the amazing Mexican I grew up with in California. Pipo’s has fresh ingredients and the flavor is right from the carne burrito to the pico, and the finale of FLAN, I mean this is serious eat it like you mean it flan, great complex flavors and textures. My only a few gripes are things I could have remedied with how I ordered: 1. Carne is cut in long strips is hard to eat in a burrito configuration 2. Sour cream on top with a side of veggies and avocado could have been diced up and put in my Burrito for maximum NOMS. 3.Pico should have been on the burrito. Like I said I am pretty sure all i had to do was ask for finely chopped meat and more junk inside my burrito. Go here and eat.

I have been going to this restaurant for years and it never disappoints. If you are a fan of Mexican food, this place a definite spot to check out. The dishes I recommend are chicken tortas and Bistec a la tampiquena. The chicken torta is a chicken sandwich loaded with beans lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, mayo and jalapenos. Bistec a la tampiquena is thin sliced steak with onions and bell peppers. My mouth waters just thinking about it lol. It comes with rice beans and a tortilla with cheese. it also has this green sauce that is a little spicy, yum. Plates are fairly large and the prices are not. The chicken torta is $ 6 and the steak is $ 10. Ok, Now I want some Pipos for lunch :)

Right around the corner from my school and they provide fast service!!! Workers are really nice there and are patient to explain things on the menu. I ordered tostadas(fried flat tortilla-think open face hard tacos) al pastor-pork with pineapples. An order comes with 3 for $ 10 bucks. Fresh ingredients with a great taste. Can’t go wrong! Try try try!!!
