Are you in the lower east side? Drop everything and get some dumplings! This place serves up super cheap, super tasty dumplings! I had their veg and chicken dumplings so far and they were just out of the world! I had a chance to also try their pancakes which were just massive and filling on their own. Once could literally get filled for $ 3 at this place! Check it out!

I really hope Unilocal is wrong and this place hasn’t closed. It’s been a while since I’ve been in NYC and had the pleasure of eating here but I think about Prosperity Dumpling regularly. It’s just such a unique experience(at least for a Midwesterner living in the south) to order and eat there, and then the food is DELICIOUS on top of it. Like other reviewers, I too regret not buying dumplings in bulk when I had the chance. We got the 5 for $ 2 pork dumplings as well as some soup dumplings and everything was really tasty, and filling. And you can’t beat that price with a stick! Don’t count on getting a seat in the tiny dining area, but you might if you are lucky.

Headed here after walking the Brooklyn Bridge one day with bae and was absolutely worth the effort. Some deliciously cheap, bomb ass dumplings right here. Regret not buying the frozen 40 pack.

If I could give a zero I would! This place is awful. I’m so glad they closed! I’m surprised they were even allowed to be open for so long. Asian restaurants sometimes get a bad reputation for being dirty and unsanitary… and this place definitely solidified that reputation. I know prices are cheap but that doesn’t mean it should be cheap on the cleaning!

Honestly, I wish this place was still open. Generally speaking if you werent getting sick from eating here, I don’t really see the problem. At any rate… the dumplings here were amazing because of the ratio between the skin and the meat. The filling was moist and delicious when combined with a medium thick skin which you dont see often in dumpling places. Unlike gyoza which is generally dry and has thin skin, this dumpling was moist and delicious. The only real complaint I had was that sometimes the skin on the outside was not as crunchy as I wanted it. This final point is something that is inconsistent and so you never really know. So… unlike my general reviews, this place is really only known for the dumplings and while they sell the golden pancakes, I wouldnt get them.(I had them and thought they were doughy, which I think all golden pancakes are).

I give it 5 stars for the taste and awesome price. You cannot beat $ 1 dumplings. Even Fung Bros said that PD’s dumplings tasted better than Vanessa’s. I always raved about this place to everyone and said it was my favorite spot in NY. When I heard it was closed because of pest problems, I thought«So what?» probably thinking of adorable Remy from Ratatouille. Wrong! I saw the video footage. I’m sorry. It’s quite disgusting. First off, the food is being prepared in a dirty, dingy back alley. Plus, when I saw that giant rat scurry along, I really did lose my appetite. Even if PD reopened, I’m not sure I would go back… Unless they actually cleaned up and renovated their outdoor kitchen. And by «renovate,» I mean never cook outdoors with rats again…

I wrote that other review right after eating. Next day, we were sick. Not a month or two later, they’re closed because… uhhh… their neighbors above them took photos of the ladies who work there folding dumplings on boards atop garbage cans in the back alley with R-A-T-S running around. Kinda no wonder I got sick. Not going back here, I don’t care how cheap the dumplings are.

Okay I’m going to keep it real and quick: 4.5 stars. 1. Chive and pork fried dumplings are all you need. It will set you back $ 1.00 an order but it is packed with flavor and one order will already make me full. 2. Bring cash. 3. FRIEDORNAH. 4. Be mobile. Seating is not ideal and get ready to take a walk with your piping hot dumplings. 5. The shrimp dumplings are overrated. 6. You need sauces. Sriracha and soy are the most recommended. 7. The line gets real rough sometimes. Prepared to get cozy with the trash bags on the street. Finally: a dollar to be full of delicious dumplings? Yes, worth it. Always.

CASHONLY! So cheap, much yums. For two people: -$ 1 for 5 pan-fried pork and chive dumplings. -$ 1.25 for chicken and corn egg drop soup. -$ 2.50 for 10 chives And pork boiled dumpling. The place is small and there is always a line, but it moves QUICK. There are about 7 – 8 seats, but I saw some people standing around eating the dumpings as well. Prosperity Dumpling was so worth the visit to Chinatown and was my cheapest meal in NYC!

Prosperity Dumpling was such a great find in the heart of Chinatown for a very cheap, no frills lunch. Although the surrounding area is a bit grimy, this tiny place offers up some delicious dumplings — 4 for $ 1! We had two orders of the pork fried dumplings and two sesame pancakes(they’re huge) — a heaping pile of food for only 4 dollars! That’s almost unheard of in this city. The pork and chive dumplings had great flavor and a nice crispy outside. The sesame pancake was extremely greasy and lacked flavor, but was fluffy and sinful nonethless. They serve sriracha and soy sauce, and you’re able to get to-go cups if you ask the cashier. I recommend putting sriracha on the pancake for some extra flavor! I can’t say I’ll be back to Chinatown any time soon, but if you’re hungry, low on cash and in the area, try out this neighborhood spot!

Agree with Pete F. This place is a hole in the wall with 6 chairs inside. I ventured out here dragging 2 kids to this place? I was expecting exceptional food from the reviews, but it’s just the price that’s exceptionally cheap. First off, the pot stickers were just ok. Then onto the pork and chive dumplings… Too salty. Then onto the pork and cabbage dumplings… Still too salty. The insides of all three of the items ordered looked the same with the same amount of salt. The guy at the registered didn’t even give us forks when we asked and had to use spoons to pick up potstickers.(Yes, we’re pretty talented using a spoon as a fork and a knife) A few minutes later this guy comes in and was looking for a fork and sees us with spoons and yells at the guy and says where’s the fork? He gave him one! Really, is that what I needed to do to get a fork? Food — just ok(not worth it to walk all the way from 6 train) Price — Good, but I’d rather have quality over quantity.

The reviews are true. The 4.5 star rating has been earned. An affordable, delectable, affable, whole in wall-able. I love their many dumps. Mostly their fried pork dumps. The shrimp and scallion dumps are also second to none! A sesame seed pancake? This will be the pillow I have in my casket. I will be back for more and recommend for friends walking around China town looking for a lovey surprise. (Props to me for seeing the place and having a feeling there was something good hidden in there! Look on Unilocal… Sure shootin!)

I read about Prosperity Dumpling in several articles about enjoying NYC on the cheap, and I wanted to check it out. We went there on a Friday afternoon around 3pm, and while there wasn’t a line, lots of people were there. They have a counter that you walk up to to order, and the seating is very limited. Not that you’d want to sit inside because it is like an inferno in there in the summer! It is definitely a major hole in the wall, so don’t expect anything fancy. We ordered a sesame pancake and two orders of the chive and pork fried dumplings totaling $ 3. That is insanely cheap for anywhere but especially New York. Those two items seemed very popular because they had a large batch of both already made, and they still were piping hot and fresh. The food was delicious and surprisingly super filling. I can’t recommend this place enough!

Read the reviews, and was beyond pysched to have found a super-cheap, quality dumpling joint in the LES. What I determined was that some options are worth the money, but«cheap» was definitely an apt description. Came on a late Thursday evening, and the place was bustling. Tried the chive & pork fried dumplings, the veggie fried dumplings, and the dumpling noodle soup. For only $ 1.50, the pork & chive are pretty great. They needed a good douse in soy sauce, vinegar & sriracha(the dumpling skin is pretty bland), but they were filling nonetheless. The veggie dumplings were a bit sour on the inside, and I was not a fan. I was super disappointed with their soup — three boiled dumplings with noodles in hot water. I am not joking. The broth had a yellow tinge, but was so flavorless, I think they just dump the dumpling water in, not an actual soup. I would give just 1 star if I hadn’t only spent $ 4 on this. The duck sesame pancake was great, so they get 3 stars. Two of us ate for only $ 13, but the quality wasn’t there, and neither was the flavor. Will continue to search for quality, flavorful meat dumplings that are affordable.

Almost Unbelievable. I can’t believe I am giving a tiny gritty place a very good rating, but with the low amount of money I paid at this place, I had a full stomach and the food was surprisingly delicious despite the somewhat strong smell of the dumplings. I have not found a place other than a Chinese bakery that would serve something this inexpensive in a city like New York. I got four fried dumplings, a vegetable sesame pancake and a bottle of water for only $ 3.15. That’s cheaper than a typical American fast food place! The fried dumplings were very hot, but had that tasty meaty flavor with a slight crisp on the outside. The vegetable sesame pancake was excellent, again, had a nice crisp on the outside, a slight softness on the inside, and the vegetables were tasty. All the food is fairly greasy, so if you are extremely health conscious, you probably should not be eating here frequently. I also would highly recommend eating right after you get the hot dumplings, because you really don’t want to make the subway smell even worse, unless you’re taking home the frozen versions of the dumplings. You’re going to need to pay in cash. This place is a small gritty place, so you should find somewhere outdoors to sit down and eat. Despite the grittness, this place got a good grade to make the government inspectors happy. Overall, if you are looking for another inexpensive meal in New York, this place is excellent. The dumplings may not be the best dumplings you had in the world, but the sesame pancakes are one of the tastiest cheap food I had in New York so far. I would not eat at this place every day, unless you have a healthier meal later in the day and have an intense exercise routine beforehand. I love cheap food that tastes good. I love New York. I really liked eating at this place.

Inside Chinatown, one very little place, with lots of people working there. If you like cleanliness, you must stay away from Chinatown, although the place was clean tho. They have inside and outside seats, for not more than six people, so the best thing it’s taking some food away. They have a menu just on top of the bar, ordered by categories and their price next to each item. Behind of the bar, you can see the kitchen and how people prepare and cook the food, it’s worth to sneak around and check it. You cannot get better Chinese food for the price, it’s really cheap and the quality and taste is really good. There’s sometimes some lines, but it moves quick, as soon as people paid they wait for the food next to the bar. I had to say sometimes it’s a chaos, as everything is undefined, so you must ask and insist them what you have ordered, but the food it’s worth.

CASHONLY Okay, I thought that ordering three orders of the pork dumplings($ 1/per order) would land me about 6 little dumplings. Ladies and Gentlemen, I had a mountain of huge(delicious) dumplings. When y’all said this place was cheap, I had no idea that I could’ve been completely full for $ 1. UNREAL. The first time we came by, I didn’t know it was CASHONLY, despite having read some reviews, so I’m going to place that phrase in this review a couple times. CASHONLY Is this«real Chinese food?» No. Also Chinese food varies by region, so if you’re looking fro«real Chinese food,» figure out how spicy your group likes their food, what type of preparation they expect when they hear«Chinese food»(is it Panda Express fried rice or roasted duck or chongqing chicken with peppers) Is it real good? Yeah. it is. Even if you’re just going for the novelty of handing a single dollar bill to someone and getting real life food in exchange in NYC – it’s worth the visit. CASHONLY

So be forewarned this is a takeout stand with seating for a few people so don’t show up with a party for dinner. This is a hole-in-the-wall in the truest sense. If you’re screamish about cleanliness and hygiene, look elsewhere. I’m disappointed that we wasted our last evening in NYC at this place. What a letdown. As far as I can fathom, the high ratings are due to the price — especially the $ 1 for 4 potstickers. If you’re on a tight budget, you can go a long ways here. But, don’t think you’ll get anything close to great Chinese food here. The potstickers are average. The pork and chive dumpling is cooked well with a crusty bottom. But it is average. I would rate the boiled pork and chive similarly. The won ton skin is very thick and I prefer the thin kind. The boiled shrimp dumpling is not very good, stuffed each with some bay shrimps and cabbage. The sesame bread was also okay. We’ve had way better in Orange County. The stuffed sesame bread was prepare bahn mi style, with a few sliver of meat. Don’t bother. If you’re looking to stretch your budget, this is for you. Our dinner for 4 cost $ 17. That’s pretty much great value anywhere but for New York it’s unmatched. Otherwise, try somewhere else.

What does an Asian girl do on her first day in NYC and also. first time in said city? She goes to find the best place for dumplings and comes back a few more times just to make sure it was just that good. And by god, it was. I love how gritty, harried and messy it is here. I love how delicious the food is and what I loved most of all, was how damn cheap everything is. Seriously! $ 1 for 4 pork and chive pan fried dumplings? YESPLEASE! TWOSERVINGSPLEASE! Sesame pancakes? Warm, crispy, chewy and droooooooool worthy. So damn good. I was able to try both roast duck and pork. Both were delicious and set you back less than $ 3. So yes. I went back 3 times. 4 if you count the time I went back 20 minutes later on the same day to try something else having walked 3 blocks away and then back again. And I imagine I’ll be back again and soon.
